Also, Windows still has "hide known file extensions" option checked by default. So something like annavirus.jpg.vbs looks like a.jpg file to the average Windows home user.
we've assembled the Games That Should Be Remade feature
Don't REMAKE the games, RE-RELEASE the original games.
Games like Asteroids and Pac-Man have a zen-like balance between controls and playability. The so-called "low tech" graphics actually reduce the game to its essential play-and-feel.
Has anyone seen those awful remakes of Pac-Man in 3D? Geez! Re-release the original and let people play.

I've been using MySQL Command Center for a year and it works well. I don't like DHTML in phpMyAdmin. MySQL CC is quick and relatively well-designed, although the new MySQL Administrator screenshots look great.
Right after 9/11 terrorists were suspected of buying put options on airline stocks. What type of stock market transaction profiling took place and by whom?
Looks like people will have to dig the Atari 2600 out of their basements and play the classics. No CD-KEYs, no content download on demand, etc., just a kitchen butter knife to hook it up to the TV.
The Atari 2600 joystick is, after all, the/. icon for GAMES topic.

I think it's safe to say that Linux/Apache isn't vulnerable in the same way as a million IIS servers.
"the last time a lost episode was turned up was in 1999" Several short clips from lost episodes have turned up as recently as 2003.
The original broadcast of Fury from the Deep was censored in New Zealand. Certain scenes (eg, "the weed creature attack" scene) were deemed to be too violent or explicit. Ironically for the censors, these censored clips are now all that is left of some episodes.
A selection of scenes from episode six of the 'lost' Troughton tale Fury from the Deep have been found. link

I literally picked up a discarded Compaq desktop from the local town dump. It had Win98 (with no password, BTW). I ran fdisk then Debian Woody disc 1 with/vanilla option. It works great!
FormZ (www.formz.com) has had simple 3d sketching capabilities for years. SketchUp (mentioned in previous posts) is one of the most user-friendly tools available today. However, most Sketchup functionality already exists in formZ. SketchUp just makes sketching (1) fun, (2) easy, and (3) look like pencil sketch lines or cartoon lines.
The original Battlestar Galactica had landing bays in its two long "legs." This was very strategic, as the Cylons would sometimes crash into the bays in order to temporarily prevent the fighters from landing.
The new Battlestar Galactica also has landing bays in its "legs", BUT they are now open on both ends. Conceivably a fighter could now land by approaching the ship from either direction.

The last time I sat in MIT Sloan auditorium for a lecture, half a dozen students had laptops running with WiFi internet. To my surprise, every laptop was running Windows XP! The guy in front of me rebooted and I saw he was running XP Home Edition. *gasp*
But this was Sloan. At another department's lecture, some more enlightened students might have laptops with a KDE or Gnome desktop...
The fact is both series are called "Battlestar Galactica" and if this new mini-series' producers wanted to do a different sort of story they could have called it something else. As it is, it seems they're just trying to cash in on a well-known name, and the series should be judged as such.
I agree. I'm afraid to watch the new SciFi Battlestar Galactica on Monday, only to have one of my most favorite childhood TV shows tarnished. For one, how could they eliminate the shiny Cylons with those computer voices?!
Besides, I just saw the Cat in the Hat movie and I don't think I could take another exploitative attempt to cash in on an established, cherished brand name.

One of my classmates in high school science research class worked on a project with aerogel. The stuff has been around for over a decade.

I don't see the folks on Sand Hill Road moving to India very soon.
Also, the article is from India Times, so expect some bias.
The deal with current BIOSes is that you hold down DEL and up comes a nice, friendly, menu where you can configure anything in the BIOS you want.
Does anyone know if Dell Computer Inc. came up with hitting the DELete key? Get it, 'Dell' and 'DEL'?
Is this just a coincidence, or clever marketing? I think other manufacturers use keys like F8, etc.
Old news to architects.
