Again, in response to the hypothetical that was passively put forward that if a chid's life was in danger then the 1st amendment should/could be thrashed, he was saying that even in that situation, a child's life still doesn't mean the first amendment is thrown out the door and frankly shouldn't be.
I'll respond to this if only you will tell me what part of the 1st amendment you think I advocate thrashing. To assist you, the First appears in its entirety in another post in this thread.
If your employer shares salary information with the IRS, is he thrashing your 1st amendment rights? How does this differ from Amazon.com transactions?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or
of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition
the Government for a redress of grievances.
do you think I would like to see abrogated, even for the life of a child?
I don't really think a kid is worth giving up the rights of the rest of a nation.
That's a dumb, doctrinaire thing to say. Do you really believe that investigating public corruption and tracking down an endangered child are equivalent? I was applauding the judge for recognizing that difference.
Mine reports watt use via a USB link to mfgr-provided software. I run the program on a laptop plugged in elsewhere when I'm measuring. Not quite as spiffy as a Kill-a-Watt (instantaneous readings only), but still very useful.
I do all my builds on a 4 yr old box (1.7 GHz Celeron, 256MB, ATA disks). The kernel takes about 20 mins, userland about 2.5 hours. In my case, the CPU is the bottleneck.
You can generate a key-pair and stick the private key on a little USB flash fob. The reason for generating a separate key for this is so if you ever need to login from an untrusted machine, you can nuke that key-pair afterwards without having to redo your everyday keys. If you're truly paranoid, you can generate several keys at the same time, deleting each one from authorized_keys as soon as you login.
Growing up in Chicago, I had a cheap wristwatch and a cheaper guitar. Every few days I'd pick up the phone, tune my A string to the 440Hz component of the dial tone, then dial (really dial!) CAthedral 8-8000 and set my watch. This didn't improve my playing or my punctuality, but it did make me feel better.

This wasn't a situation where, say, a child is in imminent danger and they need the information now.
It's simply a case of the cops' unwillingness to do some good old-fashioned police work. Good for you, Judge Crocker.
From their FAQ.

Sure, they'll have it rough for a while. Then they'll form the Organization of Hydrogen Electrolysing Microbes and we'll all be screwed to the wall.

Theo has strong feelings about virtualization.
Worse yet, they beat us to Theo!
In their summary, How Appealing notes that the requirement was struck down as "facially unconstitutional."
It's only a temporary dumb-down. They're trying to rake in some of the overflow from the Limbaugh letter.
You're part of an anonymous cow herd? No whey.
Udder folly, IMO.
Here's one way. Not cheap, but you're doing good. http://www.xogiving.org/

So the Strugackis are now the 3054 brothers?
I mean, Theo's the security guy, right? I'm sure Linus would have no problem whatsoever agreeing to abide by his decision...
That's pretty much the definition of authority anywhere.
Digitivity. Great. Another neologism from the virii/boxen crowd.
I think the intent is to allow you to use the code under either license, but not to redistribute it under just one.
I prefer fries, but if someone asks me to pass the menu, I shouldn't cross out mashed potatoes before doing so.
