I bought my Rage Fury card in January and have been running my system with 2 video cards ever since...
Do you mean you've been running two at once, or one in Linux and one in Windoze? Windows98 generally runs dual displays pretty well, but they seem to fuck up when the primary card is an ATI Rage Fury. It works when I run my 2mg hunk-a-junk video as primary, but that wastes about 30mg of video ram. They don't know why it doesn't work. Their tech support can't help. Something about an inferior operating system...
With the new Rage Fury drivers, I'm hoping to beat the snot out of the windows display, after figuring out the workings of X's Dual Display Support. Anyone have Multiple Display Support working in X, and want to share the wealth?
Give me a Fury X server, and I can move the world.
As children learn more and more about computers, there parents become, relatively speaking, newer and newer to the game. Finding yourself in a new world can be pretty frightening.
If it where to do this it could stop serving as many pages to Slashdot folks while leaving the site up for other people.
How would you know which people were/. people? We wouldn't even necessarily all link from/.
Maybe any browser running Netscape Linux or Mozilla gets denied? That won't win you many friends around here.
Besides, what's the good of denying/.ers, but letting all the Yahoo!ers in? It's not like they're any sort of better viewer than us. Maybe even the opposite.
It's also important to note that these are one directional links. The 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon are all bi-directional links, where A working with B is the same as B working with A.
Yahoo does a good job of sending feelers out to other pages, but does a shitty job of getting linked to. A page like Netscape.com probably gets a lot of references (This page brought to you by blah blah.) if not as many connections out.
We just need more pages that say This page brought to you by/. to really change the world.
Personaly, I'd like to see a one time bonus point for registering your public pgp key as privacy is a worthwhile promotion and privacy awareness is important.
Good call. I guess it's OK to get Karma points for M2 moderating, but there's no reason to limit the pay-off to just M2. Make it posting stories that get used, or maybe voting a lot on the poll, or just making/. a better place to be.:)
ati seems very un-interested in getting rage128 working in linux
I worked for a long ass time getting my ATIRage Fury to play nicely in Windows and let other cards act as secondary displays. While I waited and waited for my Windows to reboot over and over, I chatted with the techie about linux and device support. He said he was surpised that the driver wasn't out yet, and that the linux support was growing.
I don't know if he was force-feeding me horse-shit or not, but I liked what I heard.
Oh, man, settle down. I always agree with people who point-out that they want discussion without flames. Because it would be a shame if people were purposefully antagonistic and childish. Boy, that would be really, uh, bad.
Please try not to be so petty. It's not that hard to have a real conversation, even if the other person doesn't have the exact same opinion as you.
You raised some good points. It would be a shame if you simply encouraged a bunch of Flamebait, instead of real discussion.
Um, his whole complaint was that they DIDN"T use his 1st post. Course, his old post isn't new anymore (Changed agreement) and it's an old, feeble complaint, but you gotta admit that he couldn't have linked.
If you hate ETrade, that seems to be appropriate. And not being to get anyone to talk to can be frustrating. However, don't yell just because you finally found someone to yell at. It sucks working for a company that, um, sucks.
Are there any ETrade people on/.? I mean, they gotta have some real computer people over there. Someone's holding that 'Open/Close' lever on that "2Hour Window" of theirs.
Let's see... popular articles on/. get some 300 replies. Suppose half of those are from people who support Mitnick to some extent. That's $27.50 each to pay off his fine.
I see NO reason why/.ers should feel eager to pay this guy's $4,000 fine. That's not that much money. Yeah, it's a bitch, but the whole point of that small a fine was so that he'd be definitely able to pay it. I'm all for making him pay it.
If he wants me to write some letters of support, that's cool, because I disagree with the politics of the situation. It's the same thing with all the Mumia crap. It would be bonkers if we were putting forth that much effort for just one guy. It doesn't make any sense. You could use the same effort to go to McDonalds, earn your minimum wage, and give it to those 10cents-a-day places, maybe save some starving kids.
My point is that this is a real issue because of the politics, policy-setting, and publicity of the case. Not because we feel bad for some crackers wallet. Handing him my lunch money doesn't make a difference to those 3 cute alliterative P's above.
The best part of the bits I heard of the trial was when the defense pointed-out that the deaths occured at 12:19, and OJ was at such and such a place until 12:15, so couldn't have possibly made it to the crime scene in time.
Does anyone remember the really old OJ/Rent-A-Car ads? I'm not sure of the brand, but it was some rental car company.
It showed OJ having to park far away using the brand X rental company (or some other inconvenience) and then rushing to catch his plane. He leaped over baggage carts and rolled around old women with suitcases (and other such football moves).
I couldn't stop laughing when I imagined the prosecution playing those old commercials and the defense crumbling.

Bill Gates, according to Shadow Syndromes, is reported to ... not make eye contact, and have trouble making social conversation.
I'm not sure it's autism. Maybe it's just because he's Bill Gates. I'd have trouble making eye-contact with people, too.

Yeah. It was about some cracker who was also really good at 3-D chess (Keep in mind. Asimov. Old-school sci-fi. Therefore, 3-D chess.)
It was a pretty cute story. They actually didn't ban him from computers, but make him feel sick whenever he looked at a computer screen.
Ya know, I know a few people who get pretty sick whenever they play Quake. Maybe a lot of my friends are just WitnessProtectioned crackers.
