Yeah I think if you want to keep up with each and every cool game that's out, you have to have a lot of freetime, a lot of money, and be focused on video games near to the point of slight autism. I have a nice growing stack of PC games going now, and if I'm lucky I'll get to play each game once a week for like 4 hours, with a few games getting 2 and 3 days of play. But there are too many good games out now to keep up with them all. I think you gotta just latch onto a game or a few games for awhile, enjoy them, and smack yourself if you get the urge to get the latest hot game. Of if you're not a masochist you can just tell yourself don't buy new games. Going outside helps too, and now that summer is around the corner hopefully I can get away from the games for awhile.

William Faulkner is a famous author whose novels contain moments when one or more pages is a continuous stream of consciousness. It ends up looking like he went off on a tangent and then got back to the story. Takes a good bit of focus to keep the plot in mind while going through someone else's stream of consciousness. I remember re-reading passages several times making sure I didn't miss something important.

  7. console vs. PC, torn between 2 worlds on US Console Price Drops Widely Rumored · · Score: 4, Interesting
Console games were cool in high school and college, mainly for the multiplayer games. But unfortunately I've grown up now and discovered the joy of PC games, which has taken the place of console games for me. Consoles do offer one thing that the PC doesn't, and that is the ability to have 4 (or more) players playing on the same machine at the same time.

While PC games allow many more players to connect to a server and play against each other, each player is on their own PC and the comradre isn't the same as with the console. Lan parties remedy this to a certain extent, but they don't reach the level of multiplayer console games. Tension can get higher, the thrill of victory and agony defeat is stronger, and the excitement level is higher. If you don't know what I mean, go door-to-door or to a college campus and find a group of guys having a Madden 2003 tournament, or get 4 people on Super Smash Bros. It's a different dynamic than say Quake. Don't get me wrong, Quake is fun too. But PC multiplayer games are enjoyable in a more distant fashion than console multiplayers.

I've had my fun with the Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 in the multiplayer realm, but now that it's the real world and it's not possible to get 4 friends in the room for a good session of Goldeneye, Turok, or Quake, a good session of UT2003, Battlefield 1942, or Wolfenstein are just as good right now. Who knows, if I find 3 or more grown-ass kids like me, an X-box or PS2 might be in order for Madden or Soul Calibur 2 (this might be the only reason I get an Xbox or PS2).

While it's true that modern cartoons are influenced by anime, there is still a noticeable difference between American cartoons and Japanese anime. Just going off of what I'm familiar with in anime vs. American cartoons, there's the long-legged, scantily-clad, curvaceous women that are slowly appearing in American cartoons, but not at the scale of anime. The sexual innuendos and situations are more prevalent and obvious in anime too. Anime battles are more graphic and vivid. I don't know whether it's a question of can American cartoon-makers make better fight sequences or do they choose not to. They're trying to get up to speed, but they still have a ways to go.

It also depends on what cartoons are being compared. I've seen Evangelion, Gundam, Outlaw Star, Vampire Hunter D, and Cowboy Bebop as far as anime goes (oh yeah DBZ). American cartoons to compare with these include....Transformers, Batman, X-Men...that's all i can think of now in the genre of action, fighting and robots. Comparing what anime brings and American cartoons leave out, American cartoons are definitely watered down, at least in the genre of robots and fighting. The question of why American cartoons are watered down is most likely because of the censors in the US. I guess they get away with more stuff in Japan.

Ya know, the media and world has warped the word "hacker" into a bad word referring to a person that breaks into computers for nefarious activities. The IT community knows a hacker as someone skilled in computers that comes up with a "hack" as a clever way to accomplish a desired task (not illegal). But really, why can't we just let the world have the word "hacker" and just come up with another title. Because when it comes down to titles, who is really going to go around calling themselves a hacker, knowing the negative connotation associated with the title. And who is going to really take the time to care if someone calling him/herself a hacker is a computer professional with ethics or a person looking to break into their computer and steal info.

Some would ask why should we change, why can't the rest of the world change and realize the difference between a hacker and a cracker. That's just not going to happen, at least not in this lifetime. Maybe if someone saves the world and proclaims him/herself a hacker, then the world will start to change their concept of hacker = bad. But for now, that's just how it is. There should be some other title for a truly skilled computer professional and get rid of the duality of good hacker/bad hacker.
