    If you want to legally download it you do. I wonder if Apple threatening to sue Real for reverse engineering the protocal for interoperability is also news to you.

    You will know when Apple has gained monopoly marketshare when they leverage MacOS X on Intel by forcing iPod users to drop Windows.

    Whereas leveragin the ipod monopoly to force ipod users to use itunes is ok?

    Well that sucks becuse stopping silly laws is impossible if someone rich enough wants them to go through. As long as you can afford to keep adding riders to voter friendly bills you will eventually succeed...

    I will just keep on with my personal plan: suck as much value out of the system as possible and then flee the country.

    So if you are the GP you have to have a Linux box AND a Mac box to run the apps he listed instead of one Windows box?

    As an aside, Adobe recommends windows for it's products these days. Too lazy to find a link but I saw it here I think...

    Until that point, evolution remains nothing more than Natural Selection, which is repeatable and documentable, but not an origin of species.

    It helps to understand the material first. It is an origin of species, it is not an origin of life itself. At least you admit that Chimps and Humans share a common ancestor though by your own logic.

    Who cares how much of an asshole somebody is when you are talking about the truth. Seriously, what is more important to you? Knowledge or not being offended?

    This isn't a decision on what messages are aloud to be used, but how much money you are allowed to use to push it down people's throats.

    Regardless of the analogy's worth, you accussed the GP of being part of the Mafia's supposedly criminal activities. Do you know anything at all about that poster, other than he is a Mafia member? You judged him guilty by merely being associated with an organization.

    Good job letting your gripes with an organization get in the way of being courteous & civil!

    Not that I necessarily believe that ASCAP is evil, but guilt by association is not necessarily incorrect...

    I cringe. You do not own the content. You bought specific use rights. They sold you the content contingent on certain usage standards you agreed to.

    And what usage standards exactly did I agree to when I last bought a DVD? As far as I recall I agreed to nothing, the cashiere did not make me sign a contract nor did I click through some "ageement" when I first played it. The only thing governing my use of this media I PURCHASED is copyright and now (unfortunately) the DMCA.

    Anybody who tells you otherwise has a vested interest in you not understanding your rights.

    Bittorent was released under the MIT license, so pretty much anyone can take it, modify, make their own version (like the one Blizzard patches World of Warcraft with) and basically do as they please so long as they include credit to the original author. So really, anything particularly special that Bittorrent manages to do, can't anyone else just copy it?

    They could make their own improvements proprietary if they really wanted to...

    I'd say the fact that I can't predict something's behaviour (accurately determine) makes it unpredictable, wouldn't you?

    It would if you were the only thing capable of making predictions. Luckily we have millions of people and computers, if any subset of them can predict it then it is predictable.

    Why is it that the people who seem to complain about this are the ones who also complain about there being nothing good to watch on TV? If there isn't anything good, then why do you care if they put in a flag that prevents you from doing something with someone else's content that they paid to create and distribute?

    Just because I am not excersizing all of my rights this very instant does not mean I wish to give them away.

    I'm afraid that you never had the freedom to trade copyrighted materials.

    Copyright is a fairly recent invention given the 6000 years of what we would call civivilization (birth of the agricultural age). I am sure music and performance were around MUCH longer than that as well. The earliest mention of a copyright-like law I could find was 1557.

    I guess if you choose to ingnore 5000 years of history you can say never...

    Great, another 'expert' with no clue about business. You do realise that the cinemas make next to no money from ticket prices? They make their money largely from the food and drink.

    Uh huh, and why do we care again about their poor choice of business model?

    You say that it's too expensive, then you want them to employ more expensive staff? This doesn't add up. Did you skip maths lessons at school? Here's a hint in case anyone reads your post: hiring more projectionists and more skilled workers costs more money. This money will go on your ticket price. Then you'll be whining that the prices have gone up.

    The only thing the theaters have going for them is the experience of going to a movie. If the experience sucks people aren't going to give you money. Simple as that.

    Right, but don't come up and try to say "it isn't fair for the artists". They knew what they were getting into when they signed off on it.

    That's fine as long as the studio PR guys don't claim that when you d/l a track it is hurting the artist.
