    I don't think the Mac Mini is really targetted at an audience that is up on all the Apple minutae. It seems mostly targetted at less tech. savvy people and ex windows users...

    Unfortunately, this is an urban legend. The reason not to use pencils is the tiny particles of graphite would get into the air, and that would be really bad to breathe, and also have an adverse effect on some systems.

    Graphite is a conductor. Graphite dust + sensitive/small electronics = shorts.

    Or with no OS which was the whole frigging point. You cannot buy apple systems without an OS. You CAN buy x86 systems with NO OS, get over it.

    I read the spolier-free version because I don't want this smartass giving away too much. That version gave no indication that b) that this is a complaint with the original material as well.

    I haven't read the reviewer's work so I don't know how good he is but just writing a biography doesn't automagically confer insight. I prefer to verify my sources.

    They don't have to have the same taste at all. They need to have a consistent and recognizable taste. Look, I don't agree with everything Roger Ebert says, but I can tell by his review of a film how likely I am to enjoy it.

    True that. If you know you always take the opposite (or something) I could see how you could use the opinion. Of course that still entails reading their reviews enough to know what their tastes are like. My point was mostly that I have never heard of this person so don't know what his tastes are.

    The difference being that it IS possible to get a PC without an OS but it is NOT possible to do so for an Apple.

    you might like Emusic. DRM free mp3s and a pretty good industrial selection. They have a free 50 song trial, I never signed up for the full service though because you had to do a contract. That was a while ago, I don't know the current terms.

    the film also suffers by having an entirely nonsensical plot. It is driven by convenience and unexplained happenings.

    Did the reviewer even read/hear the originals? I mean, surely this is a complaint with the original material as well.

    As a rule I disregard everything said by movie-reviewers and pundits.

    Seriously, unless you read the same person's reviews all the time and know that they have the same taste as you what is the point?

    As an aside there have been a few bad reviews for Sin City. I thought that movie was amazing.

    You can't find out about it? What, pray tell, is preventing you?

    Go into a grocery store and visit the produce section. Which produce is genetically modified and which is not? I personally have no problem with GM food, but there is no legitimate reason to not label it properly.

    I think by "observation" we was referring to "counterexample" a much more well defined concept in mathematics and physical sciences. E.g. something that the theory fails to predict or explain sending the theorist back to the drawing board. Hawking tries to put these concepts into laymans terms. This is good from an explanatory standpoint but does lead to vagueness.

    Yes, this single anecdotal story of a programmer never needing tech. support totally convinced me that normal people will never need tech support and that it is impossible to make money from.

    I have noticed that some people can wrap up so much of their personality in a particular subject (technological or physical no diff. really) that they get very defensive when challeneged. The threat can be as small as voicing an opposed opinion but the response always has a particular hyperactive tone to it that is unmistakeable. I like to poke these people and see what they do. I guess I have some trollish tendencies, but really it is just curiosity. I just cannot understand how a mind can work in this fashion.

    Limiting campaign spending is limiting free speech, period. If anyone feels that large political machines gain too much power from having too much money, then the only logical response is to provide more free forums in which smaller political groups can be heard.

    Corporations should not have the same rights as individuals. If you have an organization that wants to donate money each individual should be allowed to donate whatever they want but the group as a whole has a more limited set of rights.

    If you thought it was hard to get incriminating documents from the tech industry now, think about what this rule will do to a plaintiff's chances.

    Keep in mind that this works both ways. Websites that want to protect user data from subpoenas could have a very limited document retention policy that allows them to delete logs daily and not get in trouble. Of course they should document this policy in the event of a subpoena.

    I have read that study (have you?) the methodology leaves much to be desired in that they are measuring how many times an organization cites a "liberal" or "conservative" think tank. That is it. So if you never cite your sources you are totally center? Also the language seems purposely obfuscated to make it sound more "scientific" They don't even talk about the actual study for like 4 pages. Seems like choosing facts to fit your hypothesis instead of the other way around.

The fact that you are so offended from the articles you referenced makes me think you are insecure in your beliefs. Maybe you should stop and truly ask yourself why you believe what you believe.

    Do not fall for their promises of freedom from spam. It will do nothing but erode further the real freedoms that the Internet has created for the global community.

    Not only that but it probably wouldn't even stop spam! If there is money to be made there people will do it regardless, so all we would be getting would be the censorship with none of the benefits.
