Christianity doesn't actually have a concept of big sins/little sins - a sin is a sin is a sin (pace Catholicism)
There is a problem when people like you who are ignorant of facts attempt to engage in dialogue with the belief that you do have them.
There are two types of sins in Catholic Christianity, and they can be catagorized as Big and Little. To the better educated, they are known as Mortal and Venial.
You are also factually incorrect in your understanding of the Bible as it relates to 90%+ of Christians (Catholics.) The Bible is not a literal rule book and the foundation of the Church is not the Bible but the Church organization itself - from the Pope down to the layity - and the stated basis of the Church's reasoning is... reason (though I understand 99% of the slashherd doesn't agree with this - that's fine - but I am just stating the facts of what is claimed by the organization). The closest thing to a rule book is the Catachism.
Of course, if you get your education on religion from a fictional television show that is as devoid of reality as your facts are, I can understand where you are coming from.
Fine, replace it with Computer Games that can be downloaded.
It's quite possible that fewer works will be produced when creators have to find their audience before starting (to arrange payment for their time) instead of afterward (to sell copies).
Then you agree with me and your point is invalid from the beginning.
However, it's unlikely that there would be so few as to offset the added value of the works that are created.
Value is not a collective thing. Most books would not be published. That they are published and sell means they had value to someone and a willful exchange of value occured between the author/publisher/editor "team" and an individual reader.
Almost all the books I have enjoyed have never been close to being best sellers. But because of copyright (in this country - in other countries it is easy to just make your own copy of a book and sell it on a street corner), I can still enjoy them.
There are thousands of books published each year. The cost (guessing) for an author to spend a year writing one of these books is $40k (not counting publisher costs, distribution costs, shipping costs).
Do you think that this many books and this many authors would exist if each author had to find one person willing to spend $40k for the book so that the person and everyone else could read it for free, or to find 2700 people willing to pay $15 for the book?
True, a FEW books might get that 40k patron, but most would not.
Show the gamers a game that makes good use of HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and they may buy some of the hype. Until then, all glory to Nintendo.
360 isn't forcing a new standard on anyone. You can get an HD-DVD if you so choose, but it won't be required for games - it just saves you some space and money if you areally are interested in HD-DVD.
Nintendo, on the other hand, doesn't offer you so much as a DVD player along with the Wii - they are stricter than the other guys in terms of forcing a standard with a format exclusive to them and them alone.
It sounds to me like you are a moron with no clue what you are talking about.
This isn't mass prodution versus custom creation. It is buying CDs versus DLing them for free on Napster.
The original artist can create an unlimited number of his product in a very short time and sell them. Until now they came with DRM - so he could invest the time in making the first one and then profit by selling the clones that only he could make.
Now, since anyone can clone anything, he has no reason to continue to invest the effort designing them.
It works EXACTLY like DRM and breaking DRM. Not at all the way you try to describe it. Not at all.
Hubbard initally brought up the theory in a magazine titled Astounding Science Fiction. I am not sure what he said in that article but... not exactly a mental health magazine, it is?
I saw this game on display at EB Games. I had an original Xbox and this thing looked like crap to me. Poor PS2 people if this is the best they ever got. It hurt my eyes it was so ugly. Like a PC graphics from 10 years ago.
I was troubled that the science of this plan was lost when Tom erased it from the Fun-Puter. I'm glad his idea is being implemented in SLC (though what about Jefferton?)
It's an independant, non-governmental, non-profit organization that has the full support of developers and publishers who voluntarily have their games certified. I realize the typical slashherd member can't see the difference between this and, say, Red China's government cracking down on politically disident 'bloggers,' but the difference is there.
And if the private sector does not do a good job at self-regulation (and even sometimes when it does!), the unfortunate result is government's ham-fisted regulation that is always worse. So three cheers for the ESRB?
I could explain all of them with references but I have a ton to do to day and can't get through all of them. If you were sitting here physically in front of me I would be more willing and able (are you in DC?). But I will take a look at just one.
>> She thinks partial-birth abortions (head in, body out, totally viable child - >>that's why they keep the head in - never medically necessary - just pop the head >>out!) should be funded by the taxpayers.
>Scare tactics - can you say with absolute assurance that there is NEVER a medical >reason for the procedure?
Yes, I can. The only reason the child's head is kept inside the woman is because if it slipped out it would be illegal to kill it. This procedure is only performed after viability, too, so the child could be removed and would be viable.
Your initial response might be that I am not a doctor, but the American Medical Association also claims it is not medically necessary, either.
Intentional abortion is actually never medically necessary, though it may be a highly likely side-effect of an effort to save the life of the mother (cancerous uterous) or may be necessary in cases where the child is absolutely doomed and the mother is at grave risk (tubular ligation). In these rare cases neither myself or even the Catholic Church oppose it. I can cite Dr. Everett Koop on that though I don't have the link handy and I'm not sure you wouldn't be interested in hearing from him.
Of course Nancy doesn't think you can dunk a terrorist in some water to get him to talk - if only the terrorists were still in utero she would allow the CIA to do whatever they thought necessary.
Itunes doesn't compete directly with this as the 360 DLs will be in high def and available to be seen on your television right away. I am not sure that the itune and other computer-based distribution overlaps this. Of course, on-demand from my digital cable provider sure does, although their service is very lacking in terms of having big archives of old stuff.
Several. Of course these are MY reasons and may not be your reasons, but I don't have to justify my reasons - but am sharing them since you asked.
She advocates surrendering to the Islamic terrorists (though I think she would look great in a Burka). She opposes fighting them in Iraq, she opposes fighting them here in the US by intercepting their phone calls. She wants to make it illegal (again) for the CIA to warn a local sheriff about a terrorist cell operating in her neighborhood.
She thinks partial-birth abortions (head in, body out, totally viable child - that's why they keep the head in - never medically necessary - just pop the head out!) should be funded by the taxpayers.
She supports judges and policies that support the Kelo decision that allows a corporation to bribe a government into siezing your house.
She marches in parades side by side with NAMBLA members (you know - the 'eight is too late' crowd - at least Foley was messing with guys over the age of consent).
She thinks I exist to provide tax revenue that she can confiscate and hand out to the unproductive and underserving.
She opposes letting poor people have the same choice in education that rich people do for their young children.
She thinks someone should get to cut ahead of others more or equally able because they happen to have a certain sex or skin color - regardless of whether they or their ancestors ever experienced any repression in the US.
She thinks the people who murdered a bunch of unarmed women and children in Waco, TX should be able to have guns but that I, who have committed no crime, should not have a gun to defend myself.
See, this is why conversations break down. People break their own logic.
A DEPARTMENT cannot quit a university. The analogy as stated the department as the equivilent of an Xbox users, not PEOPLE working IN the department.
And yeah, they can switch services. Or use Gametap or the PS2 (has online service) or just any other option out there - arranging games on message boards, etc.
You are being a little absurd, though, right? A university department cannot seperate itself from the university - but a gamer can choose a different system or choose not to play at all and go outside and get some sunshine.
Also, Xbox (original) could use a Gamespy system or any other similar system to simulate a lan (technical).
It's a little like the Ipod and Itunes. You can't choose any other DRM system using their player.

And what is right and wrong was not in question here- just some facts about a religious organization.

A lot of components needed for HD-dvd are not included in that player but are off-loaded to the 360/PC.

Ah - but since this is Wikipedia.... MISTAKE CORRECTED!
I would think that the PS's success is due to the kind of games they had and relationships Sony made with developers/publishers.

Shall I continue?
Soldier was pretty good.
They intend to BE the middleman.
But Windows is great, why changes.
Hopefully Vista will not have the 2-3 gig RAM limit.
Yes, because we all know it's SO HARD to buy and use an Apple.
well said. That comment invalidates about half the comments on slashdot that are complaints about DRM, MS, MMORPGs with subscription fees, etc.
