It's a little beefier than that on Vista. 4.6 meg for the executable(msseces.exe), and 55 meg for the anti-malware service(MsMpEng.exe). Plus any other things related that are buried in the bowels of the system.
So, you want to pay more for new cars, I don't. You may consider a backup camera to be worth the price. I don't.
I don't either, as you would first have to buy a new car. I did that once, and won't do it again. It's just not worth it to me. If I went the way I am now, I would be buying the car with that mandatory feature around 2025. Since that will be after the zombie apocalypse, it's a moot point.
I can't see throwing out a tv that works fine. I don't have any HD content, so I don't need an HD screen. Also, giant TVs are practically given away on Craig's list. I got a 1999 60" Philips for free. I just had to replace the CRT coolant.
I never go to the New Scientist website. I have tried reading a laptop on the toilet, but it just doesn't work. New Scientist is prime bathroom reading material. I also hardly ever read any NY Times articles because they are pay walled. Looks like the best solution for most of this stuff is electronic media. I would gladly pay for a New Scientist e-reader subscription, and possibly a NY Times one as well.
I love gadgets, and I'm a geek, but I still haven't found a need for a smart phone. I was just issued a Blackberry at work, but other than work email, I don't see any thing that makes a huge difference in my day to day. In our household, my wife got an old Blackberry 7103e as a prepaid phone. Same deal, never uses the web stuff, and maybe uses 200-300 minutes a month. I would guess we are not atypical. The only atypical thing may be the prepaid. 5 cents a minute with no contract overhead. They will get their business through people changing phones after they get out of their indentured servitude.
Besides: 1. people it's currently using more mobile platforms to browse, which it's likely to mess up with the statistics.
I had the same thought. Since the statistics are based on what browsers are reporting, I would guess that more people browsing on phones and the like would be the missing 1% of market share.
Platinumtel. They are on Sprint's network, so not as much coverage. They do have better coverage for me in my local area though. http://www.platinumtel.com/ I got my phone through http://lindonet.com/ A Blackberry 7130e which does 3G. Right now they are running a deal on a 8703e with 200 minutes of credit for $40.
No problems here. Prepaid, so can pay or not pay, use or not use.. makes no difference. Only recurring thing is 50 cent/month keep alive fee. 5 cent minute/10 cent meg/2 cent text. If I was a heavy data user I'd do something else, but I use it mostly as a phone and use maybe $20 worth total a month.
Passmark has a great bang per buck graph. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_value_available.html The PC I just bought my wife has a AMD Athlon II X4 620 in it. It rates pretty high in bang per buck, and I will say it's worked well for her. Bone stock, her PC boots Kubuntu in 30 seconds. Win7 takes 1.5 minutes.
I only have a work cell phone and doesn't allow outgoing texts. The texts I receive are system status messages from Solar Winds, and calls that go to voice mail in google voice. The google voice thing is nice even though it mangles the speech to text, there is still enough info to get the gist of the message. Those messages usually take 2 to 3 texts each.
I know I am a bad citizen, but since I adblock, DVR tv and skip commercials, I spend way less money. If you don't see they shiny, you aren't tempted to buy it. I blame the recession on Tivos and adblockers.;)
What I would love to see them do with flight, is integrate the high quality graphics they have in Bing Maps. It's fun to mess around with the built in flight sim in Google Earth, but their flight engine is not very good. Microsoft would have one awesome application if they combined FSX with Bing Maps.
I would think the use of persistent Flash cookies is another major reason Flash isn't going away. The advertisers love being able to to track in a stealthy way.

You'll need to re-partition the drive. I believe there is a small vendor partition needed, in addition to the others.

This maybe what you were thinking of.

At 2 cents a text on my prepaid, it doesn't add up too fast.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I would assume that as a 20 year old college student, he had a cell phone. Why wouldn't they track that instead?
That's assuming you can get away to take vacation. I am setting on almost 500 hours of vacation time. That's 12.5 weeks!
BTW, I work in a hospital.
+1 for the Collins Road Theaters! http://movies.yahoo.com/showtimes-tickets/theaters/1385-collins-road-theatres/
Love that popcorn! Now if Hollywood would actually make something worth watching.

No competition where I am. I paid $45 for 1 meg DSL 10 years ago. I pay the same now. It's slightly faster now though, more like 1.2 meg.
In Canada, they put them on an ice floe and push them out to sea.
Jon Stewart's parody is 42 kinds of greatness! Steven, however, would be the right one to do a play on Beck's rally though.

I shot the server
(but I did not shoot the disk array)
Agreed! That music always makes me think of Horkheimer waddling out on the rings of Saturn. He will be missed. Toupee and all!

Jesus! Now there is an ancient and crusty tag. I don't feel quite so old now.
