I work in medical imaging. When we migrated images to our new system, we went back between 7-8 years for most. We still have the old system running for as requested comparisons, but it is being decommissioned at the end of this month. There are exceptions, and the retention periods vary by state. http://www.xrayfilmsrecycling.com/state-law/ We migrated based on retention rules.
Don't forget that the Office license is only a student one. You need to spend more money if you want to use it to do office work. Blankenberg and most reviews never mention this fact. "What this means is users who purchase Office 365 ProPlus, Office 65 Small Business Premium, Office Midsize Business or Office 365 Enterprise -- i.e., one of the "New Office" deliverables coming in November; Office Standard/Professional Plus 2013; or have a volume licensing contract with Microsoft with commercial-use license coverage are able to use Office Home & Student 2013 RT devices at work with no problem." http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-office-for-windows-rt-how-to-move-to-a-commercial-use-license-7000005893/
Are you seriously comparing a brand new OS to a relatively minor update? Why don't you compare the OSX upgrade to a service pack from Microsoft? The extent of the updates are comparable, but in Microsoft's case it's free. And Apple has charged a good deal more for upgrades in the past, most of which I'd also consider minimal.
Frankly I'm surprised MS is only charging $70.
Windows 7 was essentially a service pack update to Vista. I use Vista at home, and 7 at work and there is very little difference between the two. There was no cheap update to Windows 7 from Vista. I would guess that there is more difference between 8 and 7, so the pricing they are offering for that seems pretty decent if you want to change to 8. (Notice I didn't say upgrade...)
This is assuming that there is no water available on Mars. I thought looking for water was one of the things they are doing currently as planning for future missions.
By default it does have something like "allow non-intrusive ads". If you want to block those as well, click the Adblock Plus icon and choose "Filter Preferences" from the menu. Uncheck "Allow non-intrusive advertising" and you are done. https://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads
My wife has a nook, but ever since she got a 10" tablet (HP Touchpad on firesale), she never uses the nook anymore. Nooks and Kindles are a dime a dozen now (less than $100). 10" non-ipad tablets, if you get used/refurb, you can get for under $200.
I dropped Cable this year, and NBC broadcast is the only network I can't get with antenna. Even with a nice HTPC TV setup, I didn't watch any Olympics as the only time I tried, the content was crap. It streamed OK for the 15 minutes I looked at it though. Adblock took care of the ads, so all I saw during commercials was this. http://i.imgur.com/n9o95.jpg
You are correct. The newest version of Ubuntu has great driver support built in. You do a normal install, and if the drivers have issues, and since the machines are free, you throw that machine back and get another one. A few revisions ago, Windows may have been easier/faster. That is no longer the case.
That was my thought. 20% of Americans used air travel for business, and 48% have used air travel for leisure. That is for an entire year and doesn't say how many times. If you are like me, I only go for work maybe once a year. I am too cheap to fly for shits and grins. So in that once a year I go, I think the TSA bit has been different every time I went through. My general impression is it's a grossly bloated and mostly ineffective federal agency. Security theater so to speak. It plays well with the rubes and lines a lot of pockets with federal dollars though, so it will continue.
Not new, I paid $100 for it on Craig's List. It's a 52" Mitsubishi DLP 52628. According to the little indicator on Netflix, it is streaming HD and looks pretty good to me. It is either showing OTA HD, or 1280x720 from a HTPC over component. I don't see buying any blu ray discs as the DVDs look good enough for me and streaming will soon obsolete blu rays anyway. I figure I'll keep it for a few years, unless it craps out on me. Lamp life if supposed to be 4k to 6k hours, and this has 2k on it. Lamps for it are only about $40 and look to be a 5 minute operation to replace.
I just got a big ass TV, and all we pretty much watch on it is streaming netflix. There is so much good stuff we don't miss cable at all. That being said, pretty much all we watch is a little local news in the morning, and then a couple of Trek episodes at night. We Are working our way through all the Treks. We are currently up to season six of STNG. Our local NBC affilate doesn't come in on the rabbit ears I use, so no Olympics for us.
Example.. This person sent the following to the entire company. "Hello my name is Xxxxxx Xxxx and I work in the lab and was wondering if u knew n e 1 that's selling a car because my transmititon went out on me and I have a 14 month old lil girl and we're new to Iowa and not too familure with the town. So if u can please help I would appreciate it thank u"
Education is a microscopic part of it. Being in the right place at the right time, or having the right family is the real multiplier. Obviously this academic douche bag doesn't understand his own analogy. "I've met as many successful tech CEOs who have dropped out college as I've met folks who have won the lottery," says Professor Jerry Luftman, managing director of the Global Institute for IT Management, who holds doctorate in Information Systems from Stevens Institute of Technology. "There are always going to be exceptions to any rule. But if you are a betting person, you would increase your odds of becoming a tech executive if you have a college education and a senior executive if you have a management degree."
BMX Bandit did his part! "And they have bikers up there, to speed them along the roof, also with Glasses. The bikers zoomed along the roof, doing flips, all streamed live. They rappelled down the side of the building to get onto the appropriate floor, then biked right up to the stage. Ludicrous. "Special delivery for Sergey.""

What is the length of time requirement to keep records? In the US, for most medical studies, it's 7 years. He would be outside that here.

10 of my 16 miles into work would be on dangerous highways. Death by being hit by SUV is not healthier.

I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.

I used to be able to watch my local BigTen basketball and football games on network TV until the BigTen Network came along.
Big Ten. It's Pedobear approved!

Takes me back to my old Air Force days as a computer operator. Had to run decks through the 558 twice, replacing the wiring panel, to interpret all 80 columns.

That unit is defective. Its thinking is chaotic. Absorbing it unsettled me.
