If I'm willing to pay someone else to write me a program that does what I want, then that's my business, I should have that option. OSS is wonderful, I love it, it's great, but if I have a need that isn't being met by the OSS community and I would rather spend my time studying Martial Arts and posting to Slashdot than learning to program at a sufficiently competent level to do what I want then why should I not shell out 50$ for someone else to spend the time doing what I need? There is a place for nonfree-as-in-beer software just as there is occasionaly a place for nonfree-as-in-speech software.

And as an aside regarding the previous poster I replied to, if his company is making money by selling software to people, and they switch to giving the software away then they don't really have an income stream anymore, do they?

Children are not necessarily noncombatants, the vietnamese used children to deliver bombs to enemy troops primarily because the children were 'harmless'.

Oh, and you are hopelessly naive if you think children are innocent. All children are inherently evil (where evil is defined by being completely self centered, selfish, and self absorbed). IF you leave 5 2 year olds in a room together they will all be fighting inside 10 minutes. The ability to function in society as a polite and courteous human being is a learned one, and a lot of parents aren't teaching their kids anything.
Most of the young children I see today not only have fouler mouths than I do, but will actively torture each other to extremes I never saw until high school. I've seen kindergarteners kicking the CRAP out of a kid because he had on the wrong colored shirt. And yet everyone always claims that their child is innocent and precious, well you're all wrong. You're kid is just as much of an asshole as the rest of them until you train them out of it. Not the school, not their friends, not the church, not TV, not video games, not music, it's up to you to make sure the little hellbeast turns into some kind of presentable human approximate that has respect for the people around him.

They would ask me why I didn't 'respect' my teachers, and when I replied that they hadn't done anything to earn my respect the shocked look I got back said a lot about what was going through my principals head at the time. Apparently young people are expected to respect the old simply for being old, that's just ludicrous. I respect my grandparents and my parents because they have seen and done things I haven't and can give me insight into how the world works that I haven't yet obtained for myself. My teachers were for the most part bitter, ignorant, and unwilling to accept anything that wasn't in their teachers guide. There were a few shining exceptions to this rule, as there always are.

I for one am not going to wait for them to get around to step 3. If they are in my home illegally I have to assume that they wish to kill me, in Georgia it's considered polite to give one warning shot before killing anyone who is in your home, a shouted warning that you have a gun is acceptable.
