Of course each oft the systems have to have their own passwd file, wtf.. unless you're authenticating to ldap or another service.
The solution is to have the folder you are mounting to in fstab, and tell it to always mount media as a specific UID/Group
Also, the "display or execute" message isn't a problem with the OS, it's a file manager issue. I'm guessing if it annoys you that much, then somebody would have by now submitted it as a bug/idea, and the project admins could decide whether to make it not display that message & just do what's right, or to put an option in somewhere to disable the message. It shouldn't have to ask since it can look up the file extension and then pass it through the binary wrappers
*notices nobody modded you funny* This is your official confirmation that whatever TV show you are in to is NOT geek worthy. And it's probably been cancelled.
Your order is wrong, you must be from Soviet Russia... first, they get attacked and their main campus "overheats". This isn't a bug or attack, it is a feature.
Next, they decide that they have improved their public image enough by providing "inter-operability" with Google's new "cloud" based platform, and that is when they upgrade their Anti Malware solution, to add sharks with anti-aircraft lasers
the post says he doesn't want to use google apps...
but my question would be wtf not?
it's great, and I've been using it since March '07 and have had no downtown except for a bump or two per year on the smtp server.
The interface of gmail associated to any domain and the ability to manage the users on it fairly easily (batch via a csv file upload or using the fairly fast webpage) is second to... none that I know of
it isn't just acting like a bank, it is a bank, and it doesn't deny that.
They don't need tougher regulation, the problems people have are *because of* the tough regulation- there are so many checks in place to try and stop money laundering, fraud etc for example, if you've logged in from more than two computers in the past 24 hours (or as a result of the implementation, browsers..), if you and the person you are sending money to have logged in from the same ip address, if you are sending money to/from certain countries from outside of that country
I already have a cap (Yes I'm Australian, don't start the whole "OMG WE'RE SICK OF AUSTRALIANS IN SLASHDOT" BS. We're the best friends you'll have now since we've been on caps for years and can tell you how best to stay within them).
that's ok, we won't go there.
OMFG WE'RE SICK OF AUSTRALIANS TRYING TO SOUND USEFUL ON SLASHDOT
No, what they really mean is that if you want to record 1TB on to an optical disk, you should start now because you will be spinning in their desk-chair until 200 *years* later
maybe instead of bitching back and forth you guys should stop being retards and notice the real issues
it's not that people aren't spending time developing better pens that work in space and it's not that we should have better glue for better post it notes
the problem is that nerds at MIT are treating simple things from every day life as if they are "problems" that need to be "solved".
The real PROBLEM is not that we need to upgrade post it notes, it's what post it notes solve: we need a way to remember things on the fly, and to have notes to remember things at in convenient places
so the only way to SOLVE this problem other than post it notes, is not to give post it notes an upgrade it's to look at the problem and ask for the new solution IF there is a better solution - given the past N years updating in technology and MAYBE THERE ISN'T - I like my post it notes thank you!
But here's my idea: digital ink able to project itself anywhere, managed by a holographic array, as if we lived in a holodeck out of star trek
Not possible yet? ok. Well, if you think of a better solution from now until then, I'd be happy to see it replace post it notes, but it sure as hell isn't going to be increasing the price of post it notes by inserting chips in them, no matter how small and cheap they get
In the mean time, I'm going to go patent that idea, because one day it might be possible, and then you guys will get pissed off at me for being one of the people who develop something that seems so simple to us, but much earlier on when it was in fact a vision of what may be the only right way
[X] Automatically resize the chat input area... checked by default I guess, since this guy has a stick up his ass
and then why not STILL allow MANUAL resizing after? Like.. each window could auto-resize until the user manually resizes it, then remain sticky to that size until the window is closed?
there isn't only two options, frik. I imagine the developer is just too stupid to figure out how to do this right
You need to set up a video conference on your PDA so that the interested parties who weren't able to get a seat can pay you for access to your built in mic & speaker
Even if Comcast doesn't pay you in advance, then the money you get from the video conference per party should exceed your seat's astro-turf value
Indeed. And the advantages to that are what exactly?
What are the advantages to having them on one of the IPv4 non-WAN-routed addresses that are currently used for LANs? If you're setting up a new LAN, would you prefer to have two address groups, have to set up port forwarding etc, or just allow unrestricted inbound access between your two offices? Would you prefer to plan out all of the separate addressing and how they relate to the computers, maintain a MAC-to-IP table, or go off of IPv6's stateless-IP address allocation scheme that merely suffixes the local device's physical address (i.e. MAC address) to the site's preffix?
My TiVo does not need a globally valid IP address
What's the difference between it having a non-WAN routed IP address that's reserved in IPv4, and it having a globally route-able but not routed IPv6 address? Doesn't this potentially enhance your cable provider's ability to provide service/support (and of course their ability to limit you, which they'd find a way to do anyways?)
If aa:bb:cc is your home's site prefix and your computers/devices are aa:bb:cc:01 aa:bb:cc:02 aa:bb:cc:03, then how is it a problem to have inbound routing enabled between aa:bb:cc:* but not from your neighbour, aa:bb:dd:*? or !aa:bb:cc||aa:!bb:cc||aa:bb:!cc
I still play on one of the original servers, Arkas
I'm pretty sure that's why mikael_j avoided actually making the list
sounds like apple crappads should take a hint and use these faster processors you speak of

was your post meant to be modded funny or assclown?
Seriously.. your solution makes no sense.
It's a scientific release equivilant to "Somebody set us up the bomb"
old news

Might I add that Google doesn't mind their new fighter jet being shot down, because it Google Fighter Jet Beta. Google doesn't fail.

IPv4 addresses are limited and 80% of the final allocation IP addresses have been used

all non-money market accounts are FDIC insured for 1,000,000
