I admit I don't spend a lot of time thinking about children's genitals. Lucky you guys are around to make up for any shortfall.

Funny thing, running on a campaign of identity politics doesn't exactly inform people on how you plan on running the country or solving problems bigger than whether we ever find out which restroom Pat will finally use.

A near perfect summation of Trump's campaign.

Trump actually built a successful business and he has been a TV celebrity for decades.

Almost. Trump inherited a successful business and then tried a few other businesses, some of which failed, some of which made money, some of which involved dealings with crime syndicates that have yet to be fully scrutinised. Something to look forward to. He was (and is) a C-Grade celebrity, which doesn't make him more suited to be president then your average plumber, teacher or policeman would be. Less. Might as well say "he owns a golf course, which qualifies him to be president". No, it doesn't.

Is "just like Trump, except with zero accomplishments"

    Close:

"just like Trump, she has zero accomplishments"

a good selling point for a candidate for office?

I think "being like Trump" is not a good selling point. What do you think? Does Trump have any redeeming features?

I think Trump is sort-of a jerk, so I don't think it is. What do you think?

I think what most people think. That Trump got votes from people who thought their problems were the fault of some mysterious "other" or "others" and that by throwing a childish tantrum, mommy would fix it. I think he appeals to people who would prefer to retreat to a child like state and bawl rather than get on and fix the things that are wrong.

    What do you think?

Trump might be using the presidency as a vehicle to advance his business empire. On the other hand, we know that Clinton absolutely would have used the presidency for self-enrichment, so it's really a wash. We were going to end up with that anyway.

Who cares what Clinton might or might not have done?

In any case, these days, I assume that any statement about Clinton that sniffs of hyperbole comes from Trump's propaganda department. For example, high up members of Trump's campaign said that Hillary smelt of sulfur, so she must be a devil. Not exactly the sort of people that can be trusted to reflect reality.

The problem (as many have noted), is the casual intermixing of his business empire, which he has refused to put at arms length and his role as president. These roles are inevitable conflict, and once he takes the oath of office he will be violating the constitution.

As noted in the link, examples of his conflicts of interest include:

    1. His daughter Ivanka was present in a meeting with Shinzo Abe. She is looking to close a deal with a Japanese clothing giant whose largest shareholder is the state-owned Development Bank of Japan.

    2. He accepted a phone call from the President of Taiwan. It turns out he is planning to build a luxury hotel in Taiwan. Is his position on Taiwan and the One China Policy influenced by his financial stake in this deal?

A cynical observer might say he is using the presidency as a vehicle to advance his business empire, and out of the other proferred explanation this one best matches his seemingly bizarre behaviour.

  6. Still clinging to that one, are we?

?? Why would anybody, when presented with that juicy feast of trouble for Trump, suddenly turn away from it? People will be referencing to it for the next 4 years, and probably beyond, it the Republicans ever dare to show their heads above the parapet again.

Is that all you all have left?

This morning I saw on the news that Trump had met with Kanye. Someone asked if a cabinet position was discussed, and he didn't say. This guy is just gifting us with material. He is like a political Santa, a veritable Rainman for giving ammunition to those who hold him in contempt.

  7. First...what exactly does the "Department of Energy" do for us in the US?

    Maybe you could google it?

But come a few weeks, he will have that full power...and I'd guess pretty much anyone, even the whole department as an entity could be done away with pretty quickly?

Who knows if Trump will even make it to January. Honestly, the whole thing is such a shambles I half expect the republicans will go to Obama and asked him to go month while they sort their petticoats out.

Perhaps Trump will ask Kanye to be Sec. Energy?

    1. Under-Underestimating - underestimating, but not by enough?

    2. Over-Underestimating - underestimating by too much?

Trump doesn't seem have much of an idea about what he wants and no idea about how to execute it. He can't lead any trade negotiations because nobody will trust him to keep his side of any bargain, even if he wanted to.

This puts the power entirely in the hands of the establishment that he regularly disparaged or the campaign trail - much more so than Obama, who could hardly be said to be establishment, and was at least smart enough, and hardworking enough and had enough influence to get his way sometimes against their wishes.
