  2. Dalton Minimum on Sea Ice Extent Sinks To Record Lows At Both Poles (sciencedaily.com) · · Score: 1

We just ended a period of a global maximum, which, started in the early 1900's, ending in the 1990's. We have been sliding into another solar minimum. The last one, called the Dalton Minimum, started in the 1700's to early 1800's. The Maunder Minimum, caused the Hudson river to freeze, the Thames River to freeze...the period was known as the little ice age, couple volcanoes burst at the same period of low sun output, which didn't help either. Some called it "no summer" weather. Ice might be dissipating, but it will come back big time

It doesn't fit the business model of carriers & manufactures in the android world. Why update it, when you can just sell gullible people a new one? Most people (I'm in the USA) still think you have to purchase one from a carrier, so when they walk in after hearing their phone is "out of date" given most consumers are well...not very intelligent...will be pushed into a new phone that has the updates already installed. Then, a year from now they will do it all over again.

  11. I refuse to fly on US Lawmakers Propose Minimum Seat Sizes For Airlines (consumerist.com) · · Score: 2

#1 reason is the (illegal) TSA treating everyone like a criminal...searching EVERYONE in the name of "safety" (giving up your rights as a citizen...in the name of security LMAO). #2, I remember when just 30+ years ago, it was still somewhat of a treat to get on an airliner. I even remember as a kid, anyone would walk right up to the gate of the airplane, to see someone depart or arrive. Heck, you even got REAL China, REAL stainless steel knives and forks. #3, flying today? Nothing more than cattle being transported from one location to the other. Rude people, rude staff at times, courtesty out the door. Wonder how long it will be, until public transit hand rails will come along, and everyone is made to stand during the flight. Gotta maximize the passenger load. Sorry...I'll just drive to where I need to go. Screw the airlines, TSA and all that other crap!

  12. Going to the movies, use to be about watching something on a HUGE screen, with a LOT of sound. Other than a 10-15 foot tall screen, you can still have a 40-50-60 inch screen, with a lot of sound for an inexpensive price, enjoy the movie in your own home, eat your own snacks. Taking a "typical" family of 4 to the movies these days, can, in places, run around 100 bucks by the time you figure in the gas, tickets, snacks. Plus, considering the movies released these days, are reboots, or part 5,6,7 of something, there isn't a lot of movies, for me anyway, that I want to spend a lot of money on.

  13. Hollywood still doesn't get it on 'The Matrix' Reboot: It's Finally Happened. Hollywood Has Run Out of All the Ideas (qz.com) · · Score: 1

Overall attendance is theaters is DOWN. I know a few movie theaters that have closed. Most of the problem, is the over INFLATED prices, not to mention there are more choices today, but, for me anyway, the lack of CREATIVITY in the movies they do release. When a movie becomes "a hit" what do they typically do? Part 2,3,4,5,6,7 and on. The story line is nothing more than blowing stuff up, explosions, CGI with NO SCRIPT. Get it Hollyweird? NO SCRIPT. The only thing Hollyweird knows how to do these days, is recycle something that is 20,30 years old. If a "typical family of four" goes to a first run movie, just in ticket prices, they are looking at usually 30-50 bucks and at least that amount for drinks/popcorn, not to mention the fuel to get to the movies and back, the hassle with parking. Or you can WAIT a month or two and see it on redbox for a buck if you really want to see it. The so called golden era of Hollywood ended, in the 2000's.

I think he about fell over and had a heart attack. It's just not worth it to text/drive. If I'm on the phone, if it is an important, or detailed phone call, I'll pop into a parking lot because I get animated sometimes with my hands and I know good and well my concentration is on the call and not the road. Once, I was on an extended call, and I got to my destination and DON'T REMEMBER how I got there. I use hands free 100% but the distraction is still present.

  22. why should ANY company "provide" healthcare? on Marissa Mayer Is Giving Yahoo Employees Her Annual Bonus To Make Up For Massive Hacks (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

This is part of the problem with the cost of health care in America. Employer provided health care. This all got started at the end of WW2, with so many men coming back from WW2, employers were hiring by the truckloads. To "entice" workers, they started to provide health care coverage. Go forward 70 years and look what happened. Now, you ask about 99% of the people, what it costs to go to the doctor, and most of them will say "my copay is". No, that wasn't the question...how much does it cost to go to the doctor? They will look at you with the deer in the headlights look. They have NO IDEA what it actually costs to go to the doctor, how much their prescriptions costs etc. They only think they pay the copay and that's it. When the consumer is removed from the ACTUAL cost of healthcare, you see the prices rise up, like they have. Granted, health care and advancements in technology have extended the health and life of most Americans, but, with the consumers not "actually" paying for a lot of it, they have no idea how much the costs are, and, being locked into a health plan, their choices are limited, under that plan, who they can and cannot see. If one doctor charged 85 dollars for an office visit, and another one charges 40, but the first one is "free" on the plan, which one you think they will see? With competition taken away, due to employer provided or partially paid for health plans, consumers don't have a lot of choice to shop around for the best price.
