  5. Up until around the time of WW1 on Sorry America, Your Taxes Aren't High (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

The USA had NO taxes. But, roads were built, military was funded, schools were built. Get rid of income tax, which PUNISHES ACHIEVEMENT. Ever notice a lot of the so called super rich, don't take an income? It's because they are smart, knowing if they have a large income, they will be taxed on it. Get rid of the 16th amendment, replace it with a consumption tax. Prebate for the things like food/rent, so those at the low end won't be hurt. A fair/flat tax would also generate a lot more revenue, and this nation would become a safe haven for other nations to invest their money. If you don't buy crap, you won't be taxed. And, those big ticket items would mean those at the top end would pay a higher percentage. Also, with a consumption tax, illegal aliens would still be paying something for everything they purchase. Plus, the "built in" tax on all goods and services would be eliminated. That, or if some company tried to keep the higher prices of the built in tax, plus an average 22% flat tax, their items would be 22% higher, than their competitors. Income tax, is nothing more than control and power for government.

Maybe you shouldn't have gone to college in the first place, or, perhaps instead of going after a degree, that, pays 30-40 thousand dollars a year, which, when you were living off mommy and daddy sounded good, until you moved out on your own and have to put up with rent, car, food, expenses...you should have gone after a degree with a bigger potential, or gone to a 2 year trade school, or, SAVED UP the money instead of going INTO DEBT! Other than taxpayers who will probably be on the hook for this disaster, I have no pity on these idiots who go into HUGE debt, just to go to "big college". The media et al, gets all bent out of shape about "big oil", "big agriculture", "big pharma" but they OVERLOOK one of the biggest of the "bigs"....UNIVERSITIES. College presidents, deans, coaches making hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS of dollars a year, plus bonuses, and what not. Some professors don't even work a full week!

Trade schools are "worth" more than a liberal arts degree, but no one wants to have a discussion on the high price of "big college"...paying presidents, deans, sports coaches hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and some professors only working a few days a month.
