Am I the only one who gets sick of every post of the parent's about his goddamn Christmas lights getting modded +5? I mean, all I ever see are shameless plugs, but oh well, what'll ya' do?
There, facts for ya':P Might not be 99%, but its around 100-150 million people who have ever tried an illicit substance. And I think the parent would have assumed people to realize he was exaggerating, but nnoo.
Okay - Sometimes its okay when it actually has to do with our rights and what not. (And yeah, this could be 'Freedom of Information')
But come on. When the Fish and Wildlife Service's scientist lying something that is News for Nerds! Hell, we don't even go outside other than for . . . Well, we don't even go outside let alone hunt! Sheesh, news for nerds my ass . . .
Is anyone else noticing Slashdot turning more and more into FreshMeat everyday?
Its all well and good with this software and what not, but this is just getting out of hand. News for Nerds, yeh, but there is a reason why we have places like FreshMeat:P
All I have to say is that it would be the funniest thing, EVER, to see that Google at April 1, 2005 (the first announcement of Gmail was 1-4-04) is just like 'April Fools suckas'
If every person who illegally downloaded an MP3, movie, or piece of software instead wrote a letter to their congressman on their beliefs about copyright
I'm sorry, but while I did myself write a letter to my congressman, and senators, still doesn't matter. Why? Because I don't fund their political party (and I never will until we're rid of the two party system, but thats a different story), while the RIAA does. Sorry man, but hate to tell ya', but money speaks so many more words than honesty ever could.
Point is, in order to change the laws, we have to fork up the money to change the laws. That won't be happening anytime soon, why, because we don't give a shit, I know that I don't. It should simply be changed, yeh, yeh, people say 'Oh, well you elected/voted for this person in office so just vote someone else in' or blah blah, no, I didn't vote them into office (local or Presidential, thank you).
We shouldn't have to wait years to have these changes, we shouldn't have the majority of the public realize that these things are happening to them without knowing. A large part of the public doesn't know, or care, about these tech savvy laws, hell, neither do our representatives. Everything in politics is just . . . too damn political . . . Democrats vote the way that they are told to vote, Republicans vote the way they are told to vote (I'm talking about House, not citizens) and the other parties just sit and watch, because they can't do anything. So, end point, though I've deviated greatly, is that these excuses like 'You can vote to change it' and blah blah, are simple bullshit. Remember that the Founding Fathers made it so we have representatives because they knew the majority of the public is stupid. But what happens when the majority of our representatives are stupid?
If any kind fellow who speaks German translates the PDF file for us poor Americans, it would be greatly appreciated, but hey, if ya' don't, thats okay too . . .
Well, obviously you're not down with the computer scene either apparently:) Just playin', but seriously though.
It would have a gigantic effect, a x1.86 to sometimes almost x2 effect! Haha, just read the fuckin' article right here from Tom's Hardware covering nVidia's new ideas on SLI.
Wow, I remember this mod from over a year ago at my old job at a LAN Center.
We would play this game every so often, with just the right amount of people, like two teams of four, it is seriously one of the most fun games ever. Simply because it doesn't try to be something its not, doesn't try to overshoot anything, does what it does well.
I can still remember we would ram the boats into each other, blasting the cannons at full, then someone would (most likely me doing it) jump from the Crow's Nest onto the other galleon and hijack it, muhaha. They would spawn onto the ship to attempt to take it back, but I would just switch into one of the cannons and blast them then they would go flying like thirty feet into the air. Then the two galleons would go and attack their small craft and home base, haha.
The entire point of that game for us was simply to board another person's boat, risking our lives for it, but damn, it was just so much fun, thats all I can say, great mod if you have the right people, not sure about home only play though, just doesn't seem as exciting.
Because honestly, where in the fu' else would it be. The Internet Explorer 'upgrades' are packaged inside of the Windows Service Pack, because gee golly wiz Mr. Jeepers, in case you haven't noticed, Internet Explorer is a part of Windows XP.
Totally agree on you on the first part, it does not have accurate listings in anyway. Here in Salt Lake I worked at one of the first LAN Centers, iDRONES, though there were some before it that were back in the Warcraft days, but that is not of the matter.
The point is that it went out of business about a year ago, not to mention there are about two handfuls of other Gaming Centers in the Salt Lake Valley that I could name off, from ones such as Mastermind (really cool if you live in South Jordan area), GameStar, GoodGame, LAN Connections, I-Tech, and the list goes on, but yet all I see listed on Cybercafes.com are these two cyber cafes out in the middle of f'ing nowhere land.
It does have a place to add and modify listings, its on the front page, at the top, look a bit harder next time before you post;)
Actually, I have absolutely no spam in my e-mail account at all. Never have either, I simply don't get spam, and have never cited it as a problem with Hotamil.
On your other point however, I am one of those users tied to Hotamil as an MSN Messenger user, etc. Not only that, but because of everyone knowing my email, and changing it really is a hassle that you shouldn't have to go through. I still check my old e-mail address (yes, another hotmail account that does not get spam) for e-mails that people have sent to the old one, not realizing the new one that I have had for 3+ years. But hey, thats all:)
Oh wait, I'm sorry about being a gullible sheep . . . Yet you're talking about this on Slashdot, one of the largest communities on the internet . . . Sheep, eh?;)
Just wait till they get their Quantum Servers up, then who will suck.
This raises a good question . . . Could a quantum computer be slashdotted? One can only dream . . .
You get sued for sharing, distributing, and/or downloading files, on any peer to peer network. The only one so far that the RIAA has attacked as of late is the Fast-Track network, due to its incomparable size.
Apparently people don't seem to remember a popular service known as Napster that also disappeared from existence by being sued. So, just because you use ES5, does not make you immune from lawsuits, because you are still violating the law.
Using different programs, in my opinion, do give you a bit more freedom, as you don't ever hear of someone getting sued from using the Gnutella2 network (www.shareaza.com) for which I am an advocate of. So, it would just be time until they reached the other networks, unless they are stopped here, unless they are not allowed to go further, unless they can no longer hurl subpoenas at ISPs. But then again, those are just my hopes:)
P.S. K-Lite K++ is an illegal modification of KaZaA (even though its superior for doing the oh-so-illegal things:D)
Yeh, I know that there are a lot people out there that take pride in the programs and everything, obviously Random_Nut liking his own K-Lite K++ a bit;) But, the point was that these claims were not false, the lead programmer even admitted to them.
Whether or not these were implemented for remote upgrading wasn't the point, Random_Nut was showing it as a vulnerability that could be exploited in an already 'shady' program. I will admit, that I haven't used ES5 though, because I simply believe it is a load of bs, 15 million users, when KaZaA, the most downloaded program (www.downloads.com) has had a PEAK of 6 million, someone is lying.
KaZaA though is in its dying days, I no longer use it due to all the fake or corrupted files, its annoying when you have to download fifty different songs just to get one that works, which is why I started using Shareaza (yes, I am a fanboy, thank you) because of the higher quality and the support of four different P2P networks, plus its just cool;) (www.shareaza.com)
Thats my little fanboy part, but, the point was that while they may have been claims, they weren't false claims, the code was present, which made the program, not so high on many people's download lists.

Haha, I must admit, I suffer from the same affliction. Whenever I can't find something through google, I just simply accept that is must not exist.

Okay, here is the simplest way to figure out if flag burning should be illegal, or legal. This is very basic mind you.
:).
1. Freedom of expression is a right
2. Flag burning is a form of expression
3. Flag burning is protected by that right, which is why it is legal.
If you agree with #1 and #2 - You have to agree with #3. If you don't, then well, you're just stupid and wrong

Yeh, then there are always the people who must always chime in going "X is not dead! X rocks so much, I still use X everyday"
Not that anyone from Slashdot would ever be one of these people.
