We now have many non-technical managers leading teams of VERY technical people. Decisions that determine IT's direction within the company are now made by people that have no place in IT at all, much less managing IT staff and making decisions about technology.
Wow, for a moment I thought maybe you worked where I do. Then I read your next paragraph.
Things are starting to change here as the clued-in technical managers and staff realize what happened, so there is hope.
Nope, can't be the same place. And unfortunately, I don't expect things to change anytime soon.
it takes a long time for Steam to timeout and allow you to proceed in offline mode.
How do you people define a long time? My router went down and Steam took all of maybe 20 seconds to time out and ask if I wanted to go into offline mode.
If the said separation of Church and state vanishes (as it seems is going to happen in the US), the church (or churchs) will again gain power and go back to the middle ages.
Find in the constitution where it says that the church and state must be separate. It's no where. It was written ONE time in a letter by one of the founding father's and the Supreme Court has invalidly taken it to mean that the government can't have anything to do with religion, which is patently false. There can be no official religion of the state, I'll grant you that, but that doesn't mean the state can't acknowledge religion, which is what's being wildly pushed today. Freedom of religion extends to government officials as well as the citizens.
If there is such a separation, why only remove the cross from the seal of Los Angeles? Why didn't the goddess come off as well? Anti-Christian sentiment, that's why, plain and simple.
I agree with another poster though. The characters were almost perfectly dead on (looks wise), but their actual character tended to get screwed over. Faramir would be one, and the best, example.
And here's a tidbit of advice, if you are responsible for several small children, and think brandishing a gun around is going to protect them more than getting them out of the house and away from the danger, you shouldn't be responsible for any small children. Cause someday you are going to get one of them killed.
You must be one of those that never thinks to TRAIN the small children on the proper use and handling of a firearm. Why is it that kids that grow up around guns have no problem with them, but the ones that don't are always getting hurt? Hmm?
But it's OK for some dude to publish an IE vuln without first contacting Microsoft and giving them a chance to fix it
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but it's NOT ok for that to happen either. And if I'm not mistaken, the Bugtraq mailing list has very clear guidelines for handling disclosure of any bugs found in any programs. I believe one of those guidelines is that if you're having ongoing discussion with the vendor about a bug, there's no need to report it to Bugtraq. If, however, the vendor is ignoring you or has ignored you for months, post away. Sometimes posting in a public forum is the only way to get a vendors attention.
No, you're not. I was thinking the same thing myself. If everyone did like his dad did, people would spend more time calling up their voicemail to listen to the message that was left, then RETURNING the call only to have to leave ANOTHER voicemail. A 1 minute conversation would end up taking 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Talk about a waste of time.
I would choose to have a job, if I were the meter reader being laid off.
I would choose to lay off that meter reader if I had a stable job and it meant lower taxes or better services.
And I would choose to retrain that meter reader to be able to use wireless equipment to continue reading the meters. Lord knows it could be done at least twice as fast if all they have to do is drive down a street and collect the numbers as they pass by. No more worrying about dogs, no more walking from house to house. They might get fat, but they'll be in their nice air conditioned vehicle sitting the whole time.
Or I would retrain the employee for a different job. Either way, the employee retains their job and the city saves money.
Actually, the most likely scenario is that said burly rapist will see the firearm and flee the scene immediately fearing for his life. Read up on some news items involving firearms and you'll see that that is exactly what happens more often than not.
I'm suppose to be moving into my new house that weekend. I probably won't have highspeed there yet either so no online play. Oh well, there's always single player:) And I'll have a group of gamers helping me move so we'll just play after that:D
No, it doesn't. As sad as it might be, the only thing it does is bring a little bit of closure. But as long as people are willing to misinterpret their religions, this is always going to happen. The only way I see around it is to try our best to offer help when we can.
Let me guess, you make under six figures. Sorry, but to say that no one "deserves" six figures for anything less than this or that is just stupid. Show me the Oracle DBA jobs that are going to India and China and you might have a point. Last time I checked, which was only a few months ago, those jobs weren't going to India and China. The jobs that are going there are the customer service/phone support jobs. All the Sr. Systems Admin/Network Admin/DBA jobs are still here. Hell, even Sr. Software Developer jobs are still here. And they all pay six figures because they are worth it.
By your logic, any job that isn't a doctor or military should be cut to below a six figure income.
Maybe you should try to convince people to give more money to charities instead of trying to get their paychecks cut.
You're right, I haven't read it. I don't have a lot of time right now for the leisure reading I want to do, let alone adding another book to the list. May I ask what the outcome was? Were the two people arrested?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
The government is free to excercise freedom of religion just like individuals are. When they make a law respecting a religion, then we'll have a problem. Until that day comes, they've done nothing wrong.
And charging churches with taxes just as any other corporation.
Oh yes, because they make so much money through DONATIONS now don't they. The only difference between religion and government is that religion asks you to donate money. The government MAKES you pay your taxes. If you don't pay your taxes, you go to jail. If you don't donate to your church, oh well, life goes on.
They serve me no purpose but use the country's resources.
You serve me no purpose and you're using valuable air. Please go away or pay more taxes to exist:p
I know that Republicans are strong among religious conservatives and major industry, and Democrats among skilled professionals (read labor unions) and academics
What we're up to? It's probably no worse than what the ACLU is up to. Damnit, it says freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. If you're trying to keep religion out of the government, get that damn pagan goddess of the seal as well while you're at it. If you're confused by this, I suggest you read about what has happened recently in Los Angeles. If you're gonna remove the cross, you have to remove every vestage of religion.
Do you have any idea what it takes to dismantle a chemical or biological weapon? It's not something you just do at lunch. The missile has to be disposed of as well as the warhead. There are proper procedures to be followed such as what you need to be wearing, how you handle the thing, etc, etc. And besides all that, they were ordered by the UN to disarm and show PROOF that they've disarmed. If they can't show PROOF, they have to be willing to let arms inspectors come in and make sure the job was done. Hell, even if they do show proof, they have to allow for outside verification. They did none of that.
the biggest reason that I will be voting against him in November is that he is an idiot.
Then you might as well just not vote because Mr. Kerry is just as bad. Does he even have a stance on any issue or does it just depend on where he's at and the time of day? Hell, just last month he flip flopped from his stance about whether Iraq had WMDs. Check it out for yourself.
I'd personally rather have someone in office that has a stance on the issues then have someone who's stance depends on the time of day.
Except that half the price of their gas is a tax. So if it's $4/gal over there, it's really only $2/gal since the rest is all taxes. Ours isn't that bad yet.
We evolved our society in one direction ([sub]urban sprawl/commuting) and they in another (it helps that they are so small and dense though).
They also had the advantage of simply existing first. And not all areas of America are urban sprawl and commuting. New York is probably the most like Europe with everything packed so close together and a great public trans system.
Let's also not forget that gas prices are highest in California (I think that's right) because we have the strictest environmental laws in the entire country. Hell, one of the components that was suppose to help the environment it turns out is bad and now has to be taken back out of the gas.
There's *NO* excuse for treating people badly. There's no excuse for the Abu Graib horror. Once we learn this, the more positively we'll be viewed by the world.
I agree. I just don't think terrorism or whatever else is happening will end at that point. IMHO, there'll always be something that some people will be angry about and they'll be looking for someone to blame it on.
How about Rawanda? We did mostly nothing, and largely prevented the UN from doing anything.
But again, that comes back to the question, should we intervene? Personally, from what I've seen of the people in this country, it really does depend on who's in office at the time whether they think it's the right thing to do or not. Enough people hate GWB just for who he is that it wouldn't matter what he did, they'd still hate him.
Iraq: We persuaded the opposition to Saddam in the GW-1 to rise up. Then what did we do. We let them get slaughtered by Saddam.
I agree. That was stupid and moronic. Instead of turning tale and letting them get slaughtered, we should've helped them and finished the job. Unfortunately, we can't change history. What's done is done. We need to try now to correct the mistakes of the past.
Must prevent economic problems here at home to stay elected.
I really don't think it has anything to do with staying elected. I think it has more to do with global stability. With higher gas prices, Americans will travel less and therefore spend less money. If they spend less money, not only will the local economies suffer, but so will the national and by extension the global. But I agree with you. We should be cutting off support to our "friends" the Saudi's right now. If we were a little less dependent on foreign oil, this wouldn't be a problem.
Just wanted to add one more thing. I think I replied to someone else with this as well, but oh well. If they didn't have anything, why were they being so closed mouth about everything? Why not just come clean and let the inspectors do their job?
We now have many non-technical managers leading teams of VERY technical people. Decisions that determine IT's direction within the company are now made by people that have no place in IT at all, much less managing IT staff and making decisions about technology.

How could you not picture an Ent?!

Can we say Divx?

And in a utopian world, that would work.
:)
Now welcome to reality
You're right, I haven't read it. I don't have a lot of time right now for the leisure reading I want to do, let alone adding another book to the list. May I ask what the outcome was? Were the two people arrested?

Hehe, and what about the capital "Sacramento"?

Said the AC. Good thing we're not speaking German now isn't it? What a jackass.

There, I corrected it for you

Yeah, and all us IT workers should take a 50% pay cut. After all, we're just being greedy right?
It keeps eerything a little more centered.
It also usually keeps anything from getting done, which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it.
What kind of paperwork are you talking about?
