If you xlink to another XML document or some binary data, then you need the "other document". If you need the dtd, or stylesheet information, you need the other document as well.
Zipping one XML document only has space saving as its only advantage. But for many, ensuring they are in the same place ensures you dont' get errors interpretting them and their required children/siblings/parents.
Have you actually tried SWT on anything but Windows? It's awful!
1. It came out recently. It will get faster. 2. It's faster than swing. 3. It's NOT aweful on OSX.
And once someone writes a plugin for the OS, that's it. Nothing else. Look how many times gtk was ported.. or qt? It's not inherently platform itself, but your code itself is since it (swt) uses a fascade pattern to make all the api's common.
It does matter. This is for a company to use internally.
I hate microsoft outlook, but i have no choice to use it or not. My offices won't let me instlal another mail client and doesn't support imap... so what do I do?
They also don't use rational rose (morons), but I can't go install that eitehr, for my UML needs.
Integrate with sun's other services, which will compete with MS and Lotus collaboration suites? Jabber only does IM, which is great and all, but doens't integrate on those levels.
Jabber doesn't integrate with sun's other enterprise utility servers.
The platform, which consists of several separate server packages -- Sun ONE Messaging Server, Sun ONE Instant Messaging, Sun ONE Portal, Sun ONE Calendar Server, and Sun ONE Identity Server -- is available now and takes aim at rivals Microsoft and IBM/Lotus in the lucrative collaboration arena, said David Ferris, analyst with Ferris Research.
It's like wanting jabber to integrate with yahoo mail and yahoo calendar, along with the privacy.
Not to slam jabber at all, just the right tool for the right job, eh? Just one that requirs sun software:)
Morals and ethics dont' get you anywhere in business. Honestly. To give a hard-hit company money, in the case of Microsoft and Apple, wasn't an ethical thing. It ws in Microsoft's best benefit to do so, either because it was cooperating or going against them.
Do you really believe that we are in this America-Iraq war just because we care about the people? We are there for various reasons, arguable which are the real ones. Reasons such as if Sadam becomes powerful, he can be a threat to us in the very long run. He can affect oil prices if he gets too powerful. People will think ill of us if we didn't do something. That would inadvertently affect the economy.. which sucks all the same.
Little ol' me consults for MS. If I do the required 40 hours instead of the required 80 hours a week because enough people aren't staff'd, who's problem is that? Depends if you are friends with the boss of the company or not, eh? Sometimes, going the extra mile means suffering yourself. Sometimes, a little suffering is ok. It keeps you good with the employer. A little too much, and you become a whipping boy.
Well, I think a secretary deals with general responsibilities, where as an administrative assistant deals with a particular person's duties, such as CEO, CIO etc..
A CEO would use an assistant specially for them as they would need to not only work for the CEO, but with him, dealing with sketchy situations.
Fair enough. Then when a particular piece of software crashes, the software engineer can be held liable for damages caused by the crash (lost time, income, etc.) When you write code, do you stand behind it? If it doesn't work or crashes, will you accept responsibility and liability? If the answer to these questions is "yes," then I applaud your willingness to stand behind your work.
That's what QA is for. You have someone look over your work, test it, make sure it's fine. Same goes for a mechanical engineer. You make sure your design works before you sell it off. And when my product goes through QA, if they don't find problems due to not testing against the specification, then I won't stand behind my product. But, if they teset everything, hell yeah, I'll stand behind my product. And if there's a bug, blame me, and i'll do my best to fix it.
I take it back! Did you hear what Michael Moore said about Bush on TV? Someone write THAT up! Totally went off on "President" Bush.
Props to him, not for berating bushes actions.. but for standing up in what he believes in. We should all follow his example.. doing what we believe in... do it to whatever extent we can. Cut through the bullshit.
One big diff.. the offspring are already a big band, maybe not the richest in the world, but I'm sure the band members combind can easily spare $2k for what they believe in.
I doubt this band can stand for much if it requires a lot of money.
A band from the 80's, just trying to make ends-meat, and you link them to slashdot.
Hopefully the publicity will skyrocket whatever profits they can make, instead of just incuring heavy ISP costs.... looked like an independent site.
Link was left out. wopps.
Just because AT&T owns the name, Apple cannot be declared a Unix either.
Bestbuy is an exception, from what i hear all about. They defy what the RIAA dictates, since bestbuy does so well and has so much power.
If bestbuy stopped selling, I'm sure the RIAA/MPAA companies would feel it somewhat. Then again.. so would bestbuy.
I was planning on buying them too, but i misplaced my credit card. Can I borrow a few billion? ;)
It makes sense actually for usefullness.

Whois records are definitely sources of spam. It depends on
1. How secure the whois information is from automated stuff.
2. Does the company sell your info to other companies?
But can you interface with their (sun) products, which you want?
Jabber just wont fit.
Cost to pay developers to get it to integrate with lotus or MS collaborative stuff (notes i.e.)
A hella' lot more.
It does matter. This is for a company to use internally.

This will sound bitter, but it's the truth.

But you are right, the term has been perverted.
Slashdot cleaning up their act and NOT having a dupe today would be a great april fools joke.

Yeah, but just sabotage them with a few microwaves, and you are set. :)
heh, never image you could DDOS with a bunch of bean burritos.
At least I now know where I stand. Figures.
Hrm... never mentioned anything about anime. Mentioned late breaking news.. and posting quickly.

Wow. Talk about blaming the observer. I was just on slashdot just for the sake of being on slashdot.
I could care less either way, I just thought it funny to comment, unless I don't have *your* permission to make comments anymore.
You assume too much. Besides, what if 10 other sci-fi, slashdot loved movies won?
It's a story flood!
Cripes, it was only minutes ago. I hope we don't hear every little detail before its done. :)
