    have a look at the other screenshots at their site .. there's a button with "FT2" as renderer, which probably means freetype 2 ;)

    if you use rsync, have a look at rdiff. It works similar to rsync, but can produce incremental "backups", i.e. it can have a master version of 2 weeks ago and 2 weeks full of diffs. You can restore any version from the diffs, which makes it very nice compared to rsync. rsync is good for basic desaster recovery and stupid users that "accidently" delete some folders, but rdiff can protect you from more subtile changes (do we still have that version from last week ? .. and no, media designers don't use cvs ;)

    I can second this statistics at least somehow. about 50-60% of our inbound email is spam (that is, what spamassassin did filter)

    I can second this. Getting IP adresses from RIPE is a major pain. their current policy forbids (!) to assign unique IP adresses to virtual web-servers, so you have to resort to name-based virtual hosts, which creates a whole lot of problems ... (SSL, etc ..)

    using UDP in favor of TCP is a very bad idea, because of TCP's congestion avoidance, or the lack thereof in UDP. If everyone starts using UDP the net performance is going to crawl. Read Tannenbaums network book for a better explenation ;)

    my P233MMX with an promise UDMA 66 gives:

    # hdparm -tT /dev/hdh /dev/hdh:
    Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 3.10 seconds = 41.29 MB/sec
    Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 3.21 seconds = 19.94 MB/sec

    So the harddrive can read twice as fast as max. network. Another question would be how much CPU is needed to get it on the wire ?

    Btw .. is there any variant of NFS that uses hard drive caching ? i.e. make a special room of a few gig on the local harddrive to store frequently accessed data ? (this would speed up nfs-mounted /home quite a bit ! ;)

    Yes .. esp. since 3.2 is only a bugfix release, that should only fix some C++ ABI bugs ...

    hmm, have to disagree. I think the spambot looks for common firstnames, and only found:

    a bit of parse logic would get rid of that Crown of stuff, so the name is there, it matches a dictonary word, as the adress has no dicionary name in it !

    so i think its possible that it was a real spambot :)

    I wonder why everyone overlooks the fact that Serial ATA will remove the physical cable length restrioction of the traditional ATA interfaces.

    IMHO its one of SCSI's major selling points that cables of LVD-SCSI can be > 5 m without problem.

    On the Serial ATA website they claimed that they lifted that restriction, but now, how long can they be ?

    (and for cable length, thy building a big tower, with a HD near the top. standard IDE cables don't cut it.)

    I'm currently planing of moving my computer to the next room, shut the door, and have a quiet PC.

    Idea was basicly to use a 5 m monitor cable extender and a usb hub for keyboard and mouse. Sound is no problem. Anyone has experience with such a setup ? is it a good idea ?

    Funny, my palm Vx is working as an alarm clock right now, because if its "relibity" ...

    I never had so much problems with hardware like the Vx ... first defetive DRAM, the software patch never worked for me correctly with palmos 3.0, it did crash all the time, with palmos 4.0 it seems a litte more stable.

    Then the digitizer goes mad every now and then, which is very annoying to reset :( (if you tap on the screen and the pixel is 30 pixel below, it sucks if you want to hit the top line ;)

    Third, the harware ... the buttons wore out fast, i have trouble pushing the on button now, yay.

    for me .. never buy a palm again, sorry palm, not that way ...

    there are sollutions for windows that do that for many many years

    I had a 2 gb DAT streamer working under win98 and some special programm, that presented the tape as just another drive letter, it was really cool, expect the latency ;)

    I don't know about the US, but here in germany there are MANY companys offerering sms email notify, baiscly they send you the headline as sms. usually you buy a packet for sms notification with 50 sms per month for a couple of euros
