Every time I mention this everyone on slashdot points to the cables, however millions have read them and said there really isn't anything shocking there. I don't find anything shocking there. it all seems like standard governments working against/for/around each other as normal.
To quote an old TV commercial Where's the Beef? Where's the juicy bits? Where's the stampede of lawyers/journalists/bloggers/or general people trying to get someone fired?
Okay let's look at the content of the releases. if there some damnable offenses in there then the opposite party will be jumping up and down and using that information againist the other party. So how many republicans, right wing speakers(glen beck, rush limbaugh, anyone on Fox news), or even right wing bloggers have said that the information is worth trying to get someone kicked out of office? None? not one? That proves that not only is the data not showing any kind of corruption but the fact that people who hate each other all agree it doesn't.
Where are the responses from other governments? China and Iran both say that wikileaks is a CIA operation and the whole diplomatic cable release is to keep the cover since there is no really harmful information in them.
It is just as valid as a theory as anything else. It has just as much evidence as everything you believe.

It isn't about replacing the traditional computer but complementing it. At home I run my laptop doing one or two things, and my desktop is playing a game. A tablet sits on my desk in front of me holding all the latest game specs, character references level stats, unit stats, whatever. I don't have to take my hands far and I have a complete reference for a large quantity data that is primiarily online.
Or Take it to your D&D session. it can hold your character stats, etc far easier than a pile of papers, while taking up less room than even a netbook.
Or instead of carrying your laptop take the tablet with you while your on the go. you dont need it for work but just to keep an eye on the email, maybe to read while your getting lunch.
A regular keyboard, mouse, monitor aren't going away. for large bodies of content creation they are invaluable. For something stupid like posting on facebook or Slashdot it is all you really need.
And the first thing you have to do to those cheap andriod phones is root it and install update to date software as those cheap phones if your lucky comes with a 2 year old OS.
Google does things slowly one decent update a year. CArriers are running 1-2 years behind google, making android a very slow OS.
It really is a shame that the first thing you have to do is void your warranty to run a decent android OS. And don't mention Nexus. The Nexus S is produced by samsung and as such with everyone you buy you support thier lousy updates for the rest of their product lines.
load up something like farmville, and tell me how it runs. flash ads are mostly static, try loading some major dynamic content. or a a car manufacture website. go into the full versions.

Scientists are complaining about a 5,000 year old ice shelf breaking off. Well what caused it to break up 5,000 years ago? ice cores, and trees can only form localized data. One glacier may show only a little growth, but a glacier on the opposite side of the world doubles its growth? Did the world get warmer or cooler during that year? If a group of trees experienced a very slow growth year on one continent bad trees on another continent grew more which one is the normal?
It is questions like those that make me doubt the global warming crowds answers. Is the world getting warmer YES it is, is CO and CO2 bad, and helping to warm things, you betcha. You should live to be more with nature of course. but if you mention any of the questions I did to the global climate crowd they get very angry with you.
You can't make any direct claims but localized trends by looking at such data. yet that is the data that is used. it is like saying the mississippi will get flooded because Brisbane is getting flooded. It just doesn't work that way.
And yet happens when you root and load that ROM and brick your phone? you can no longer take it to the factory for repair. Even if it was working fine with the new ROM your warrenty is void, so when you drop the phone they won't replace it for you.

This is a phone if you need to type out 200wpm your doing something wrong. SMS are generally limited to 160 characters, and if you have more than a three sentence conversation text it call the person it will be faster.
I can type faster on my iphone than eery slider to date simply because the buttons are huge compared to sliders.
The source of the malware? go for it? most of them are coded with nice open source software.
Do you want your ISP controlling your internet? telling you when you are using to much? how about a cutoff right in the middle of your download?

How do I know that the firefox I downloaded from a third party repository is the same as what mozilla produces? How many distro's create their own tweaks of various software programs. Several of the major distro's have had poisoned repositories over the years due to hacking, cracking, or just plain disgruntled coders that went unnoticed for months.
All it takes is one or two pissed off ubuntu employee's to ruin the entire company for years.
In order to side load apps on most android phones you have to root the phone first.
That singular step alone will stop the average idiot from doing it. Also note who publishes the rooting software? Hackers and crackers, who may or may not use that same method to do some nasty tricks when your not looking.
Users should be free to download any app from any website, and install it on their Macs or PC or Phones.

Most people don't have decent stereo's any more on top of it. I know I haven't had one in a decade. The only AM/FM radio that I own is a charging station for my iphone as well. Great sound quality takes up a huge amount of space. In an effort to simplify I have thinned out(in more ways than one) the amount of crap that I have. Giant speakers that get used once a month for a movie, or song were near the top.
Also you only rip LP to MP3 if you have no choice. Analog as a different collection of artifacts that are introduced into the music.
