    Says you. most business I know only upgrade their computers every 5-8 years. and then want to reuse their old licenses so they don't have to learn new software which don't have any features which they need.

    Windows doesn't have perceived value anymore. OSX leopard ships with every single feature Windows Vista Ultimate has for $129. why does Ultimate cost $300?

    Windows and Office are way over priced in a current marketplace.

    but it is a requirement in any pure solar system. what happens when you want to turn the lights on at night? a Pure Solar system fails. You need a storage system for it. On the plus side with a steady charge, a small motorcycle battery will last 6-7 years powering a shed's lights.

    Batteries are going to be standard in all solar systems, until Ultra Capacitors become a reality. Who ever figures out how to mass build ultra capacitors will be billionaires. Once Ultra Capacitors begin to work. you can use solar and small vertical wind turbines to recharge them and run the bulk of your house off of them.

    Yes and no. it wouldn't hurt for a standard 12volt DC connector to help keep things going, the problem is in most DC system one of the leads is bonded to the car/boat/plane/train/etc to bring back the current.

    I agree it will be interesting. MSFT though will try to use their old tricks in a new world. With the internet their flaws are broadcasted far and wide. OOXML was one of the most open ISO votes and well known ISO votes of all time. I think it caught everyone who is used to the old way of doing thing behind closed doors off guard.

    But that doesn't mean MSFT won't try to subvert a standard.

    actually if things continue as they are I wouldn't be surprised if Snow Leopard requires signed binaries like he iPhone does. The iPhone does run a stripped down version of OS X so it is very possible that apple will due the DRM MSFt has only dreamed about.

    your getting ahead of yourself. First it is Embrace.

    What is MSFT doing right now? Embracing ODF, next comes a slow extension of ODF to make it MSFT only.

    1) Embrace --- MSFT is doing this part now
    2) Extend -- wait about a year for this to start happening
    3) Extinguish --- OOXML rulez. in about 2010 or when the next version of Office Ships.

    Well that explains a lot. It explains why with every iteration OS X streamlines a bit making it slightly faster on the same hardware, It explains why OS X can do everything Vista does on a quarter of the hardware.
    it is because Apple controls the hardware thus promoting a tighter bonds between the two groups of people.

    again you run into the enviromentalists. all of those are valid reasons. Indeed every flat roof should have as many solar cells as they can. Every little bit helps.

    The coming energy crisis isn't going to be solved with massive generators but a massive number of small generators. One or two 1kw vertical turbines on your roof, along with a couple of kilowatts of solar cells on your roof. you won't generate all the power you need but you can offset enough to mak it worth while.

    I don't know that sounds awfully early. Then again Duke Nukem Forever should be out about that same time.

    Not to discredit the wine developers. reverse engineering windows is like mapping the human genome. It's complicated, and a whole lot of WTF moments.

    Because there hasn't been a large power plant built in the USA in 20 odd years? with the last one coming online 12 years ago.

    We are building high power devices on a power grid that was designed 20 years ago before such concepts weren't even thought of.

    Environmentalists won't let new plants be built. Solar, Wind are nt yet generating enough to even begin to offset the demand.

    it isn't distribution it is availability. by 2015 I expect rolling blackouts during hot summers, simply to keep the air conditioners going.

    A dirty bomb though won't get the explosive yield to throw the radiation far enough. a mini nuke may only physically destroy a block, but the radiation will make the city uninhabitable. Think about it the average city itself is only 10 miles or so in diameter. you could make NYC uninhabitable by only blowing up a wall street building.

    Also the USA had several of these weapons. Given the fact that they have misplaced nuclear warheads before they are probably scared that someone stole one and they never knew it.

    because until recently Dell was the largest computer builder. For window they have been replaced by HP. But for a decade Dell was the standard for computer prices. IBM like apple had better hardware but the bottom line numbers were always higher than Dell.

    After playing around with both an iphone and several of it's So called rivals you can tell the manufactors don't have a clue.

    the itunes integration is a bonus. The big difference is the hardware/software integration. using the so called rivals was like using PalmOS circa 2000. it did nothing that couldn't be done then. the iPhone is almost interactive in how you touch the screen it responds.

    Apple doesn't make the greatest innovations, they simply make them usable.

    Um here is a little secret macintosh users don't complain about Apples pricing as they know and especially lately they are less expensive than DELL ON the same hardware. Even when i bought my powerbook G4 I couldn't find an intel machine that could compare in cpu power, size, weight, battery life, and price.

    The only big difference with Apple is you can't chose to use cheap hardware in certain spots to shave dollars off the cost.

    That isn't to say that apple isn't controlling. they can be worse than MSFT in some cases, and better in others.

    If it is small enough to be but into a cannon, heck from that one image in 1958 it is small enough to be put into a strong backpack.

    what gets me is that it takes lots of tech and R&D but we did it in the late 1950's. that kind of tech is now well known and trying to keep it secret is nearly impossible.

    I can hot swap VGA monitors on OSX, try that windows repeatedly. not only can OS X handle the hot swap better it does so over and over and over again.

    PS/2 ports are completely useless at least with serial and parallel ports they have unique features PS 2 ports can only handle keyboards and mice, and only if they are plugged in on the right ports. I have had to toss computers because the PS 2 port failed and the way it failed would prevent usb mice and keyboards from working.

    it is a 30 year old design that needs to be tossed.

    Apple's Stance to is fade out support for old hardware. Tiger eliminated G3 support. I doubt snow leopard will drop G5 support seeing how it is 64 bit. Of course it will be three and a half years since apple started supporting Intel at all. A complete drop of powerPC is about due.

    it is something you either love or hate about Apple. Apple has been the first to drop old hardware and software designs which hamper innovation.

    Case in point with USB ports why are some computers still shipping with PS/2 ports? Everyone laughed at Apple for dropping the floppy drive yet 5 years later everyone had done the same thing.
