So anyone need to make a long distance call can just go bugger off?
Wouldn't a 12 number display work better?
It's the only thing I use my cell for is long distance. It's extremely cheap.
of course i could do without the camera(both still and video) about 50% of the options installed, though i do like bluetooth to upload my phone list with.
>>How is this out of hand? Turn on Windows Update and forget about it. This might have been news if someone had found a way to exploit Windows Update and triggered it to install a virus. This is just another 'click me!' e-mail virus. What and let it trash your system because MSFT missed a QA test?
Nope not gonna happen. heck i don't even let Apple Auto update. Sure they can send notifactions but I wait at least a week before appling patches. That way losers like you can beta test for me.
I'll authenticate with each and every site I visit...
and
I'm more worried about logging on to some place with the wrong credentials...
Are contradictory statements. You can't have both be true.
Single Sign On is nice because authentication is easier. I didn't like passport cause I don't trust MSFT, or any single vendor. Open ID once it has stablized and been tested is a better way in theory.
So who do you trust a dozen or two different companies with various policies, or a single system gone over by experts, and attackers that is designed to provide a single point of failure?
No but they are responsible for looking up prior art.
That look up is most likely a quick search through their own files. Of course if they used a computer to research the topics they would realize people have been doing this for years.
"You sirs are an embarrasment to Linux crackpots & lunatics everywhere."
Naw I just have a warped sense of humour. You want to really scare people. As ~20 year old be really really nice to people, and dress like you could kill them for breakfast. leather, studs, name it. You then can shock people who think your scum by being polite to them.
They build the planes so they are inherently unstable for maneuverability.
I remember when the F-117 was first announced. The air-force said only a computer could control it's surfaces for stability. With in 3 years a couple of model airport engineer's used a then knew kerosene turbine model sized engine, and readjusted the plane's balance point. It flew fine on fly by wire.
And the so called B2 don't fly in rain, isn't 100% true. The rain merely increases the radar profile beyond the limits for the design. in other words it's not stealthy anymore, and looks like a giant bomber on radar.
It doesn't always work. I have seen that fail exactly Once.
Take a 2 year old Husky -yellow lab mix,
Add one Nylon choke collar
One chain with a 500 lb breaking strength
One metal stake 6' long pounded 2' into the ground.
Make it hunting season, with an unknown # of deer on the move at dusk.
The Dog barked like mad as the deer walked about a 100 feet away. Then went quiet. 10 minutes later as that feeling of dread passed over I checked on the dog, and found,
The stake, the chain pointing the way the deer were walking, 2/3 of the nylon choke collar still attached to the chain, the remaining 1/3 about 5 feet away laying in the fresh snow.
That's right that Dog checked himself so he could naw his own collar off. Dog showed up 4 hours later, and promptly got a bath that he didn't want. Spent those 4 hours in the swamp and was tired and happy, but no obvious signs he was successful.
This same dog also learned how to open a sliding glass and screen door. How he could pop the chain off of his stake in the winter by climbing a snowbank from the drive way, how to play rough without causing pain, and mom even got him to do a 2 leggged waltz, though he is a bit clumsy.
So that will take care of the laptops running Windows.... what will be used to power the iBooks?
solar of course. Each laptop will have a solar panel hidden underneath it's top clamshell, Just leave the machine in directly sunlight and it recharges the battery.
Inspiron 8100 didn't ship with XP standard it was an upgrade. It shipped with ME - TOO.
and XP refuses to properly reconginze the PS/2 port. both keyboard and Mouse go absolutely haywire, with random clicking, movements, and other problems.
At least with Linux I could finish the install, boot into run level 3 and run everything by command line including Lynx so I could look for help, on fixing the mouse. Under Windows that isn't even possible.
The point is moot, as I upgraded to a better platform. OS X. Installing tiger was a breeze. of course the same holds true for OS X as Windows minimal default software install.
And you completely ignore the whole point. good windows slave.
The whole conversations is on installations. a standard linux distro takes an ~hour to install and you can work, and install updates when you leave for the day.
A standard windows install takes an ~hour for the OS, an ~hour for MS office, an ~ hour or two for for the latest critical updates or your machine could get hosed long before you start to get any work done.
Now which sounds easier? What happens when Windows XP refuses to install or has some other major hangup? I can't install XP on my P4 Dell It won't work. I can't even go in and bypass the hardware to finish the install long enough to try it manually.
First I have seen windows install software without the user being prompted right at work. They ask me when a pop up ad comes up and looks like a regular dialog box.
Second Active X is a cool feature and nobody thought of the consequences at MSFT. there were reports in the late 90's about active X showing it's potential for harm. It took a few years, but guess what people.
I will give MSFT this much at least a full third of the crap they have to deal with is stupid users. And stupid users can fsck up any OS.
It's just harder to maintain control when windows apps require admin settings.
>>You'd think with all the fun we've been having with IE' security, some fresh material would come in
Sorry BSOD's are classic.
and I can make XP BSOD or restart almost on demand. my roommate won't let me touch his computers because of it. It's not hardware as he doesn't have problems normally.
XP is better , and i am hoping Longhorn finally catches up to the rest of the World's OS's for stability. MSFT does have smart people working for them, who else pulled out the duck tape and Superglue that held the 9x series together.
Because it still asks you if you want to install it to begin with.
Of course I learned long ago never to use a browser that is tied to the OS. Hence why i use firefox more often.
Of course it is easy to remove the offending software. unlike windows spyware it can't re-infest the machine while your removing it. Also I don't know why you need to reboot the system. a simple rm of said file, and then kill the dashboard with Kill.
English is easier said than done, can only be said by a person who has never traveled to random points in the USA, and then gone to the UK.
English gets it's own unique dialect for every 100 miles of travel. neighboring dialects are close, but when you travel 1000+ miles things get complicated, The basics are there but the phrases are not.
I disabled several video cards and sound cards via my motherboard over the years guess what.
Windows installs drivers for them anyway and reactivates them.
I spent an hour one day trying to figure out what was wrong with win 2k, I finally plugged my network cable into the on board jack and things worked for a minute. Windows had reactivated the barely functioning built-in jack (not sure why but it wouldn't hold a connection)
Windows Plug and play does more than just ask the bios for hardware specs, it does a deep hardware scan sometimes.
Now that is interesting how are you using the serial ports as an emulator, for local connections?
Also since most people here noticed I said most not all. I know serial is still used by some, and at work we have 3 parralell printers dot matrix printers. but personally I haven't owned a dot-matrix in 10 years. My only serial toy is my UPS. everything else is USB.
I noticed this when shopping for mini-itx boards. there is a total of two models without all the other connectors. If I am trying to make a cool small shape, why do I have to ruin it by cutting out such a huge block at once?
Because the more you have the more things that can go wrong.
running dual video cards and disabling one of them works, but you never really know what's going on. maybe the driver required to disable that onboard card is what goes puff and loses it's magic.
You should be able to build a computer without extra's if you so choose.
And why do modern boards still have serial and Parralell ports? They aren't used by 75% of the rest of the world, why are they even included as standard on ALL boards? On Some us because they still have some value but ALL?
I am damn glad Mac's have eliminated all the old hardware ports that don't play nice.
I took a known risk, new car model, in the first run of production.
I have had to general recalls. First one was a wire harness hasn't really there and the controls lines for airbag deployment could get severed preventing the airbag from going off.
The second was a poor boot cover design for the tie rods.
I owned the car for two years and they replaced the tie-rods and put in new covers.
Minor problems should be expected. If you buy say a Ford Taurus you won't have many of them as they have been worked out for the most part.
So anyone need to make a long distance call can just go bugger off?

Decoding is a lot easier that encoding.
A mac Mini can Decode in real time.
A dual G5 with a Gig of Ram can encode in real time if it isn't doing anything else.
You need a Cell processor to encode in real time and do something else. hmm
Wait are you for or againist Single Sign on?

Well I feel better.
Every time Steve, or Bill makes a prediction the opposite happens.
Google is God and will live forever anyway.

wow that's the nice version of what I thought.
thanks for writing it before I could.
I had all sorts of names to call him, but the polite way is always more fun. People don't expect it.
You do realize they do it on purpose right?

yea but take a look at this entry.

with enough of these showing MSFT crimes, It ought to be fun to watch.
I wonder if some one can show DOS being taken or OS/2 warp

Spitzer is also (NY) is also contemplating a governer.
And of all those things they are in only
Windows and office generate any real profit.
the rest are at best break even deals.
Just because you are in a dozen markets doens't mean you are doing well to survive in them.
The xbox is stil a break even deal. They lost money on each unit sold until recently.
