The problem isn't climate change. the problem is that glacier melts every 5,000 years or so. guess when it last melted? 5,000 years ago, Maybe it melted back then because the pharaohs were putting out too much CO2 with their slave labor in building the pyramids.
Is CO2 having an affect and should we try to curb it. Of course. is the planet getting warmer, Of course. Do we Want clean air to breath, of course. Those are good reasons why to clean the air. The planet however under goes constant temperature shifts. it shifts from 4 degrees colder to 4 degrees warmer every 20-40 thousand years. We don't have accurate non localized temperature maps for more than 50 years. Ice core Samples, tree samples, etc are all immediately affected by the local temperature. and we are trying to guess planetary temperature from two or maybe three locations. I am sorry but that is not statistically possible.
We will never evolve beyond internal disputes. heck 60% of all marriages end in failures do you really think we can cooperate on a national level over the long term?
The thing is over time our disputes are getting less violent. we will still have them but in another one or two hundred years we will talk them out instead of shooting. well unless we fall completely back.
I am not convinced that even aliens attacking us could get current leaders to work together.
that's just it people don't turn off wifi but companies like nordstrom run monitoring software. so whenever you enter their store they know how long you were there, what parts of the store you visited, and how often you come visit. I am surprised more companies aren't doing this as it is a quick way to track customers.
What apple has done is made this method of tracking useless. instead they will be forced to use ibeacon type technology which uses bluetooth. It also provide more accurate tracking as bluetooth is much shorter range.
They already do that. most DRM schemes aren't infinite. Streams aren't designed to be downloaded and stored. DRM authentication servers go dark after 5-10 years.
This would at least ensure those files could be made available after the DRM servers died.
So what your saying is the the GUI designers for the systems need to work instead of just slapping some labels on touch buttons in random order.
The touch control systems fail in not being easy to use. Also Most people look at the dials when adjusting them. Just to make certain they stopped at the correct location.
So looking away for a second or two isn't a big deal. navigating a menu for 6 layers deep to do something simple is. I can't wait for apple to show car companies how to do touch screen interfaces. Or at least google.
How are you driving safely with your feet no where near the brake or gas? Even with cruise control on your feet should be near both peddles and preferably trying lightly on the brake in case of an emergency stop.
Anything else means you are a bad driver. At 60mph you are traveling 88 feet per second. Even just one second Slower response time can mean the difference between life and death.
it is costing us tons. it is preventing economic recovery right now.
Businesses are dumping money into the stock market as it is growing by 20-30% annually while the "real economy" is stuck making 1%.
If those businesses were forced to invest in new products and growth instead of in the fake stock market we could get out of this mess easier.
the majority of companies are sitting on trillions of dollars worth of cash. it is just sitting there collecting dust. why aren't they investing it in the future of their company?
You can't post from the iPhone anymore. Mobile Slashdot on safari is horribly broken. At least for me I can't log in or post once I do login. I switch to classic.Slashdot and everything works as normal. Switch back to mobile and it breaks. I don't know why they can't test it. It is not like you can extend mobile safari.
Netflix offered to give comcast the hardware required to upgrade their network though. Being Free wasn't enough for Comcast Comcast not only demanded free equipment but to be paid for the privilege of allowing the free equipment to be installed.
Netflix has given other ISP's the hardware. why is Comcast special enough to be paid for what other were given for free?
I can see lights and heat/cold being attached but if you need a reminder text when your oven has reached temperature then you really shouldn't be cooking.
The problem with these systems is simple. you can't easily combine them into one. If a standard came out that was consistent it would jump forward until that time each system bounces around until you can't get products for it any more 5 years later.
GE used to make a low voltage switching system for homes. the only thing still sold is the control relay's and switches. each of those are very very expensive.
um what open solutions? I have yet to see an in home system that wasn't locked down hard and that even if they use open protocols which is rare are still not compatible with each other.
Yes but yours isn't being done with a computer that makes worthy of a dozen new patents alone. You can make it two dozen if you replace computer with mobile device and resubmit.
3D printing will need to get to a higher quality before home users will get involved. Much higher resolution in the pieces. Maybe a variable print head so that material can be made smaller or larger as needed.
What gets me is if the tech is small enough to go into a tablet. Then it is small enough for a drone. Add in a laser range finder and you could scan and map a house quickly. Military would like that. However remodeling homes and businesses would love it. Tie the output into the unreal engine and you could redesign and then walk through a home remodel.
Nothing of real value will be lost. Both states contribute to aiding and abetting politicians (as most of them keep second and third homes in those states.)
I like one of those other suggestions get one of the games that respond to brain wave levels. Set it up as yes or no. Then get a board with different words and conditions on it. So I feel and point out the words(pain, happy, want to get drunk). And an outline of a body. So you can quickly make sentences with just a handful of yes no replies.
that's just it the surface pro is not something you want a lineman or warehouse worker using. it costs almost the same as tough book, but will break easily.
While I can see some use cases for tablets in warehousing, in general it just isn't needed. the surface pro is for salesman and managers who might need to type up an email while on the go.
As for MSDS that entire industry needs a severe overhaul. every SDS that I have seen has the information on it but sharing that information is like pulling teeth through goat.cx's arse. multiple incompatible file formats, sharing of files is at best painful. There is no reason why in today's connected world why I can't get real time msd sheets for which ever truck is on the road for misc. company. It should be mostly automated to the point of stupidity. yet it isn't even close to happening.

except in Europe crime has gone down even farther, and they have even stricter gun laws. so how can you be right and wrong at the same time?
i would say lead in paint would be a better factor. less people would drink gasoline. but lots of kids would like the walls.
true they replaced the motor with a steam engine.

Because the earth isn't a perfect sphere or egg shape. It bulges in the middle, but it doesn't bulge evenly.
That was why the earth wobbles on its axis.
Hey it would lower property prices in silicon valley. So it wouldn't be all bad.
A nuke wouldn't be needed. Apple just needs to drop a couple of tungstan chairs.
That way they could destroy Google and one up Ballmer in one shot. With the money left over Apple could buy the Cubs for 10 billion.

No they did have a written one though. some punk kids would write it down on the bones of their victims.
oddly enough it was why they theories the T-rex's were pissed off all the time. the short arms meant they couldn't even lift bro.

You should try under a rock. after all we solve most of our problems by picking up a rock ash smashing the opposing viewpoint in the head with it.
nope Access Database.
now which is scarier?

Possible but I think this Ducks cross the Arctic. shows that the researcher is a moron. This has been happening for years.
