That's just it Remote and close to inaccessible. Both of those create decent barriers for stopping or slowing down the transmission enough that while those cities would be gone, a scorched earth policy would limit the damage to those regions.
Africa is the same way. sure you might lose millions, but those millions of zombies won't be going anywhere either.
Except wildlife populations are exploding in the USA because the number of hunters goes down every year.
Each year there is less and less places that can be legally hunted. So the population of hunters goes down a couple of percentage points every year.
In NYS 15 years ago you basically had to be lucky to get a single doe tag. now just about every hunter gets one doe and a couple of buck tags because the population of deer have gone up and hunters have gone down.
Of course us none hunters still have our shotguns.(MY.470 shotgun is perfect for rapid fire anti zombie defense, being a small gauge means I can fire quickly without losing aim due to recoil. )
The telephone lines your DSL runs on are old. Water is getting in the lines shorting them out.(been there dealt with that). The phone company doesn't want the expense of replacing the lines. This is very common in cities, and other densely packed neighborhoods. It forces people to switch to VOIP which causes the number of subscribers to drop which means the phone company has even less reason to upgrade the line, continuing the process.
They basically forced my company of 80 people onto VOIP because of deteriorating line conditions and an unwillingness to replace them. The Cable company ran us a new piece of Fiber optic, even though we use a third party for VOIP.
Consider the simple fact that the standard Sim card is larger that the A4 processor in the iphone I would say yes.
Think of all that wasted space since the SIM usually only has a couple of Megs of storage too. A Mini SIM that the current iPhone uses is nearly 30% the size of of the A4 processor. and the same size as my 4GB microSD.
actually the self checkout lanes are often empty, as most people don't like them.
I know I always go for a cashier over the self checkout lane, I can't tell you how much I have accidently stolen because the scanner didn't work, or only caught one of the two items of the same kind I was buying. Not to mention they are actually slower than a cashier. the scanner is less sensitive, and you have to wade through the menus for payment, taking twice the time a cashier could do the same thing.
Smallpox has a real world chance of being found in the world naturally.
It has been less than 50 years. therefore the chance of it coming back is possible. The best defense is to keep limited supplies available to make vaccines immediately which will be able to protect people right away as opposed to 6 months later after it has killed a whole bunch of people.
Vaccines take lots of time. If you want a million doses you have to plan 6-9 months out in advance. That is why some years the annual Flu shot comes up short. they either didn't make enough, or had batches go bad and are coming up short.
Even a mutated strain can still be slowed down by a vaccine which will give people more of a chance than they would have had otherwise.
Actually the Manufacturing base is slowly being brought back. the $100 a barrel for Oil is driving up the transportation costs significantly. $4 to $5 a gallon for gas will force manufacturer's to bring it back.
The downside is it won't be cheap labor but primarily robot built items that come back first. So the job picture will only slightly change.
True the USA has yet to hit rock bottom. but the USA has dug itself out several times before and can do so again. Remember we have huge piles of copper, Aluminum, iron, as well as Rare Earth metals still in the ground. plus all the stuff in our trash piles.
It may take some time, but we have all the resources we need to rebuild other than oil. Building a new future without oil will be the real trick.
you have a 100% success rate in telling it when you want it to do something. What is the rate of error when you make other noises at it?
it may be able to tell the difference between mom & dad, but can it tell the difference between a throat growl and mom?
That is the trick. not that it can identify clearly spoken sounds but does it also identify badly garbled sounds and find matches for those? If the answer is yes then the software only partially works as the error correction isn't good enough.
That's the voice recognition software working for her. Try disabling voice dialing.
I used to use voice stuff until I sneezed while driving and discovered my phone thought I said father and dialed him.
From then on I refuse to use Voice activated features as none of them actually work right in the real world. They use quarter or half samples of pick up key phrases and hash those for speed however because of the compression/ judging that they use for hashes there is huge number of items that "sound alike"
Oddly enough MSFT used a similar term when security experts started telling everyone that activeX is bad and not to use it. MSFT called it fear mongering.
10 years later we are still cleaning up the mess that activeX made of the Internet.
Nope Valve wants to punish me because I can't afford the time to spend 50 hours a week playing a game.
Oh I have friends. very few play video games though. I give up several hours a week to going out and enjoying time with them. it is a personal choice. spend time outside doing physical things that are mentally fun or spending time locked at my desk playing with myself and my imaginary friends.
99% of online only friendships are worth less than used toilet paper.
No Mono addressed the legal issues by having Novell work a deal with MSFT on the proprietary stuff. The problem becomes no Novell no deal, and the Proprietary stuff is required for.NET apps to actually run on windows machines. Therefore you can't build a cross platform.NET application without the MSFT side of the code to run properly on windows.
At least that is how I remember the logic. someone can mod me down if I am wrong.
Exactly we should ban cell phones from schools so kids can learn in school instead of talking to each other. The school should have a cell room were they can drop off the phone on the way in and pick it up on the way out. Theaters should have it too.
Or better yet simply design short range jammers that get turned off when the fire alarm goes off. That way kids can't use the phones when things are good but it is still available in emergencies. Maybe a lighted toggle switch in the central office to turn it on/off with school hours?
I don't have any friends on steam nor do i want any. therefore I can't even play the co-op mode even though i unlocked it.
It took me 3 days to beat portal 2. Not because I suck but because I could only play for 1.5 hours a day. Yea I beat portal two in roughly 5 hours on my first try but because I am a casual gamer who has real life obligations it took 3 days.
Now Valve wants to punish players like me because I don't dedicate my life to playing games.
Bin Laden wanted to bankrupt the American Economy like the Russian Economy fell. It basically worked.
However unlike Russia at that time America doesn't have another Superpower to defend against now, and only has to deal with smaller nations.
Even saying that Bin Laden basically achieved his goal. The American Economy will take 20-30 years to recover from the external and internal damage.
WE really haven't recovered from the dot bomb. The 2000's housing bubble made it seem like we did, but in reality we were slipping farther behind. On the plus side there will be a glut of large cheap modern homes on the market in the next 5-10 years
why you can only read so small of print. why would you make it more stressful for yourself.
to be simple two 1280x1024 monitors compared to one 2560x2048 display. Text on the smaller monitors will be easier to read, and to keep separate than one big monitor.
Considering how hard it is to get one giant monitor 30" across (newegg has one and it costs $1,000 dollars) or two 19" monitors that cost at most $200 each.
You get physically more area, similar screen real estate, and can buy 3 more monitors for a total of 5.
This is why I want two monitors at work. having four terminal windows open at work(our primary database is accessed that way as the windows version lacks many key features like editing) plus outlook, a spreadsheet, and firefox(with multiple tabs) all running at once, and what is more important the ability to look at it all at once.
Take the computer as a desktop metaphor. is your desk the size of a sheet of paper? how about two sheets of paper? why is you computer displays only the size of one or two sheets of paper? Multiple monitors allow you to stretch out work across multiple items at the same time. While accessing our database, I will have an email from the customer open, a couple of manufacturer's websites open comparing part numbers, a spreadsheet or word doc, open. and I will need to be able to look for keywords and phrases in that mess to make sure I get what the customer is actually looking for.
Most jobs would actually be made easier with dual displays. Sales, accounting, coding, engineering, Any job that requires you to reference multiple documents at the same time.
that or I missed typed it.
That's just it Remote and close to inaccessible. Both of those create decent barriers for stopping or slowing down the transmission enough that while those cities would be gone, a scorched earth policy would limit the damage to those regions.

How to share is an important one though.
Practicing social etiquette is another. Though Schools are struggling with it since they aren't allowed to discipline any more.

Especially since the areas that have the majority of snow days are the same without decent broadband, small data caps ,etc.
If you make a greedy claim you should still have to pay your lawyer, and if you lose you have to pay our lawyers too.
At least for cases over $500,000 or so.

No Shiny is more important than plain.
the problem is securing things is hard, and in the end should be nearly invisible to the end user.
Shiny is is to show a CEO that you actually accomplished something today.
Oddly enough MSFT used a similar term when security experts started telling everyone that activeX is bad and not to use it. MSFT called it fear mongering.

Or maybe the fact that she used a false address, denied repeated media interviews, and only showed her face once or twice annoys you.
Yes there is video footage of PJ on one of the linux talk shows I forget which and how long ago but it is there.
Not everyone seeks fame some of us avoid it like the plague that it is.
you do realize they not only look at the data, but at the binary position of each bit stored to determine it's authenticity.
The raw stored data while containing the story is checked for anomalies just as careful as the story itself.
you don't build tunnels though, you bore them.
besides we all know it is there so they can smuggle more drugs into the USA.
