    A. you believe in protectionism and we need it to protect ourselfs from highly competitive countries LIKE china and japan.

    B. you don't believe in protectionism and in some weird way you don'ts thingk china or japan are competitive.

    any other combination doesn't make sense, if we were all protectionist you have nothing to whinge about.

    Ballmer is correct to an extent - google and yahoo ARE a house of cards, completely reliant on the fickle advertising market and pumped up share prices.

    common misconception.

    health issues aren't ruled by supply and demand, especially on brand name drugs since the supplier can artifically restrict the supply without fear of competition. it's not like someone dieing has any choice (what price do you put on life?) and drug companies exploit this.

    capitalism is a decent system. but it's not an answer to everything, and one of those things is health care.

    to be fair MS has not "abused" the patent system YET. they have made rumblings and i have no doubt SCO was a test run, however i feel after seeing how that ended MS isn't going to try the same thing.

    in fact if anyone is the victim of our current patent laws, it is MS and companys like them. patent trolls hang from them like leeches attempting to get themselfs bought.

    ROFL, oh but THEY DO!!!! the traditional RIAA contract has the artist paying for all the costs out of their royalties. essentially companys RIAA represent take an artist onboard and fund the album, making the artist pay it all out of their royalties at an inflated price as well as taking their cut of the profits, so if an artist is very lucky they might walk away not owing them money... studio's are a pit of snakes, make no mistake.

    our realistic options for power generation as things stand in the next 5 years are : - coal, nuclear.

    anything else is an expensive joke.

    sorry but when i compare the OP's source of the royal academy of engineering vs UK papers, i have to say you'd be crazy to not go with the engineers who actually know something about nuclear power.

    there's no "probably" about nuclear being safer, it's a simple fact.

    there's always 2 things greenies try to call on nuclear - cost and life span. firstly while nuclear costs more initally, it's running costs see it break even with coal in 5 years. life span they will try tell you we only have 5 years of fissionable material - i make it clear right now they got that figure from the fact we have 5 years IF we all swapped to nuclear TODAY and relied totally on STOCKPILES. that means we didn't dig another ton out of the ground and didn't look for more. we also have breeder reactors which extend a plants life indefinately.
