all this back patting linux people give themselfs blinds them to the obvious failings it has. Does anyone really believe linux has better device support than windows? linux failed on 2 of my laptops and i know plenty of people who have given up on wifi. cry all you want about "bad" hardware and vendors who don't release specs, it doesn't make linux anymore attractive.
say what you want but if you've used silver light it's actually a pretty impressive platform. my only beef is it's download size vs flash. flash is what, 800kb? silver light is 8megs. not really a huge deal i guess but a bit of a wtf considering they do the same thing.
if my stove was 100 times the size of my house and 1000's of degrees i would. honestly why post such a stupid comparison? it's obvious to anyone that the sun is THE major player in our climate, and solar flucuations are the most important part in our temps.
i have to laugh at the gp's lniks, 2 are basicly the same article, one is a PERSONAL website and the other totally random. the fact is there is very strong evidence that the sun is responsible for temp rises http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070228-mars-warming.html (irony that it's on nat geo as well). mars has melting ice caps, explain that one away?
that's not a solution when you have applications processing information, and you switch over while your in the middle of processing requests. In my situation there isn't a single second the system isn't fielding 100's of requests. basicly it involves a hand shake where the client makes a requests and expects an answer, if you switch over the new system won't know the client is expecting an answer so you'd have to re engineer a black box system to do it somehow.
frankly it's a lot of dicking around (and i'm sure i'm not the only one in this position) when there are better supported OS's. it's a shame because i like a lot of things about openbsd and i really would like to use it.
fuck that, imagine how many disputes they will have with retarded IT departments who can't manage their own network properly causing goolge apps to be unavailable. they are going to get the blame for every isp fuck up that happens as well.
the 6 month release cycle only compounds the issue though, you end up so far behind that when you do need to update it means a complete reinstall to avoid dependency hell.
updating requires about 30 minutes of down time, I have a production system that costs the company $10,000 a minute when it's not running (and i'm sure that's cheap by some peoples standards). explain why i would choose an OS that costs the company $300,000 a year in avoidable down time. with other OS's i can continue to get security patches and i can apply them with the minimum amount of down time possible.
and yes we have backup systems, but if you've ever worked in a real industrial environment it's not as simple as flicking a switch when it comes to changing control systems, and it's certainly something you want to avoid.
the problem i have with openbsd is it's 12 month EOL cycle. in a production environment upgrading the entire OS ever 12 months so you can continue to get security patches just doesn't cut it. perhaps the openbsd team could put up a paid for extended patch team or something to help fund their efforts? that would certainly be attractive to companies using it for firewalls and as security devices.
ipods don't need to run zune software, it's not their purpose. can you copy fair play encoded music from your ipod to your soon though? no? THAT is anti competitive and apple have been busted in the EU for it.
i wish people would stop buying junk from such freedom hating companies like apple. MS are far far less restrictive yet you all seem to love apple. the mind boggles.
there is an old saying "an armed society is a polite society". perhaps this is why the streets are full of little thugs, because there is no danger of anyone fighting back and the cops are laughably under resourced. and no before you go off on some tangent about the wild west, it's not gun battles in the street that stop crimminals, the mere fact it MIGHT happen to be them that gets blown away that stops them.
that certainly looks slick. i'm all for it if it's a better solution. as a platform for database driven applications a decent BI package is all i've ever found OSS to lack. reporting services is far from perfect i'm definately going to give this a go.
don't worry i get called a troll all the time for it. usually because i point out something that MS is good at that OSS is shit at, and the truth stings ego's like a motherf*cker.
so what your saying is there isn't any OSS package that can design graphs and reports via a gui, then allow dynamic generation of those graphs and reports via a website?
that sir, is why MS rule the business world. while your staying back reinventing the wheel with your custom web framework, i've already completed those reports for my boss and subscribed him to them so he gets them automaticly.
custom software is always more expensive than the MS alternative as well. just as you said "as long as someone wants to pay for the time".
please tell me what you use as an open source alternative to reporting services. it has to have the ability to design reports in the same manner and easily deploy them to a webservice where the user can xport them into various formats.
this is bullcrap. MS is better than ANYONE at providing legacy support for old platforms. look at how long win32 stuck around? STILL works. backward compatability is one of the corner stones of MS's business. IMHO they can't win no matter what they do, if they break legacy support to fix things like security they end up taking heat like they have over vista, if they continue legacy support like they have been doing they take heat of lack of features and security.
This guy has just blown out a load of basless speculation and your all buying into it (any giving him page hits).
more devices than vista? i doubt it, and vista certainly supports more of the important devices for a home user.

no one cares about the USA now that you are in economic meltdown.
i think someone needs a HTFU t-shirt.
yes that's right, we don't all have 10meg links.
i'v thought X was a piece of shit for years, but ironically due to lack of choice i can't

"the instructiosn are very simple" - i wouldn't be so quick to call anyone retarded.

just one more we promise.
haha that was the worst movie ever. radioactive contamination would be the most likely reason for not wanting people to touch it.
one of the axis of evil - microsoft and SONY.
has the last 10 years of anti gun policy in this country lowered the murder rate? http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/buyback-has-no-effect-on-murder-rate/2006/10/23/1161455665717.html i think not

last time i tried jasper is was far too inferior to reporting services to be useful to me. if it's improved i'll definately reconsider it.
