" I can definitely say that if you come out of a University of Phoenix or DeVry program you're going to face a hiring stigma. "
Mod Parent UP!
That's the real problem. UoP and DeVry turned themselves into diploma mills. They accepted everyone and gave everyone a degree if you paid $80,000+.
Of course every student is different, but the ones that end up at UofP or DeVry are usually the less desirable type.
Before you decide on any college call (or email) the places you want to work and see if they hire those graduates! But you have to word it right, if you say "Do you hire University of Phoenix students?" and they say "NO" that could open them up to a lawsuit so HR will never say a direct "no" to any college. So you have to say "I would like to work for XXXXX after graduating from college. I am considering XXXXXX, XXXXXX and UofP. Which of these schools would be the best to attend when I apply to XXXXX?" Hopefully they'll be honest, and if they don't directly say UofP then don't bother going. Also call the accreditation board to make sure where you're going is accredited.
"Even then he's clearly lying about some things. He says it runs Bad Company 2 well. Ummmm.... No. BC2 hits a system hard. It runs well on my quad core desktop with a 5870. "
It does run Bad Company 2, game looks great at 640x480;)
Here's someone that's proud of his 20" 1600x900 monitors. He's going online and bragging about something that most people toss out to replace. He's like a child that says "LOOK MOMMY I FOUND A BUG!" I pity the kid, I really do. His friends probably all laughed at him when he showed them his "GAMING BEAST" so he went online for comfort and found none. Probably races around in his 98 Hyundai Elantra too.
Also, hardocp is run by morons. This post proves it.
That's the first thing I saw. 20"? In 2011? Those are TRASH. You can pick up 19-20" LCDs all day for $50 on craigslist in any major city.
And thanks to a 20" not being able to support 1080i HD you don't need a new video card, any card since 2007 will run any game at 1600x900 just fine.
Best part: guy doesn't know how to build PCs, this is all running on a $300 Compaq!
Gotta love the replies in the thread:
"Good for you!" "so you built a triple screen gaming , , , , " And my favorite: "I'm gonna be honest: I have no idea what the point of this thread was. To showcase something?" Damn good question, why is this on/.? Did someone not know you could buy three small LCDs and a cheap PC for less than $1,000?
I have no problem either, we should all pay for our music on iTunes and then pay an extra $10/mo to... wait, I already paid, why am I paying again?
But I don't think it should stop with music! What about that copy of Office you downloaded? We should all pay $XX/mo to the BSA (Business Software Alliance... not boy scouts) for downloading programs.... also remember the MPAA needs their $XX for the movies.... and the Entertainment Software Association needs their $XX for those games you download.... am I leaving anyone out? Music, software, movies, games... PORN! We owe the Adult Film and Video Association of America a TON! $XXX/mo sound alright? Ok so your monthly internet bill is $1,800, we offer a convenient payment plan of only $20 charged three times a day...
And some Muslims behead Americans and thousands had violent protests last year when a American said he was going to burn the Koran but other than that they're normal people just like you and me.
I love how people watch the news and think they know Muslims. Until you've been over there and saw the hatred in their eyes people should stfu
Burn karma burn, like an American flag at a mid-east Muslim rally
Exactly. The Judge could have asked Katta the last time he attended GPS training, when the smartphone was last calibrated, or the unit's model number — none of which the Katta would be able to answer.
Just because the smartphone has GPS doesn't mean it's 100% accurate or that the software is reading it properly.
He let Katta out of the ticket because he was in a great mood and he put up a fight. I pay an attorney $45 to do that for me and I "get out" the tickets too without a fine. I have better things to do than wait 2 hours for my name to finally be called and argue with a judge that may or may not be in a good mood.
This is a story for the bar over beers, not a/. article.
It looks like a competitor to the Overdrive system many libraries use."
That's exactly what I was thinking. My local library uses Overdrive, and I've downloaded many new audio books to my ipod from the comfort of my home for completely free.
Overseas: they'll outsource this just like they've outsourced every other programming or computer related job. Only jobs left for IT/CS grads is $10/hr GeekSquad.
And how many active accounts? I think I might have used Pandora once in 2010...
And this really makes me want to invest my life savings: "Our revenue increased rapidly in each of the fiscal years ended January 31, 2007 through January 31, 2010; however, we expect our revenue growth rate to decline in the future as a result of a variety of factors, including increased competition and the maturation of our business, and we cannot assure you that our revenue will continue to grow or will not decline."
Wonderful news! So essentially you guys are going IPO, cash out, then watch it crash and burn? Excellent strategy! Glad you told us ahead of time, perhaps you'll get less jail-time since you warned everyone that you'll be stealing their money.
If that was true, they would have chosen Android. Microsoft isn't exactly a powerhouse when it comes to mobile devices. The top phone OSes are Android, RIM, Symbian, iOS, and Windows (Not necessarily in that order.) What I do know, is that Windows is on the very bottom of that list. RIM and iOS wouldn't be interested in Nokia, so it's either Android or WP7.
Android has a lot of potential, a hundred thousand times more than what Windows Phone 7 has. They better go big or go home.
FTFY
Xbox was nothing too when it got started. Sony had their playstation 2, Sega had their new Dreamcast that had a year jump on Xbox and Nintendo had the Gamecube. Xbox was ugly and clunky and offered no familiar Mario or Sonic or Final Fantasy games, yet it held in there and now it's a dominate player. You can't write Microsoft off so easily, they have a nasty habit of jumping in the middle of a fight and kicking ass.
Shareholders? You're kidding, right? It took 5 or 6 years for the Xbox to break even, before that Microsoft was burning thru tens of millions every year just keeping the xbox afloat. But guess what? It paid off and now the xbox is a dominate player, perhaps even beating Sony with the new Kinect. Microsoft is dangerous because they can lose money for years and still continue to support something they believe will eventually work. Few other companies have that luxury.
That's not the issue. If she had spoken to the parents, privately, about their children that's one thing. To speak about the children in this fashion on a public forum is extremely unprofessional behavior.
Normally I'm aghast when someone gets in trouble at work for their private blog/whatever, but in this case it's perfectly reasonable.
Agreed. Also shows horrible judgement, which is really the reason I'd be firing her if I was the principal or superintendence. If she's dumb enough to post this all over the internet what other really stupid things is she capable of? The fact that she claims to have done this years ago and the posts are still live doesn't help her case either.
I sort of expect that we "should" be paying for mobile OS updates, dont you?
SHHHH!!! Don't encourage apple! On desktops every update is $100+, updating from 10 to 10.1 was $100, 10.1 to 10.2 was $125, etc. I don't want that on my iPhone!
The original iPhone, sometimes called iPhone 2g, can not run iOS 4. Highest version is iOS 3.x. Of course the iPhone 2g came out in 2007 so you can't expect to run the lastest OS on a 5 yr old phone. We'll see how well a 5 yr old Android phone does when Android has been out for 5 yrs, but last I heard phones that are just a year or two old are having a hard time updating.
Wait, that was bad? I thought it was pretty good, can you give me an example of a *good* half-time show so I know what to compare it to? Surely that was the best in the past 5 years, unless you think nothing could outshine Janet Jackson's boob.
Not only did Randy fail the whether outsourcing is ethical question (it's not), but in the very next question he goes on this tirade saying the US justice system is "cruel" for putting a mother in jail for 5 years for ripping off people in a large-scale Ponzi scheme because it's "punishing" her family. Really Randy Cohen? So what would your suggestion be, no jails? No incarceration? Maybe we could just whip her or cut-off a leg? She won't forget that and her family will get her back faster. Oh no I got it: tattoo her forehead CON-ARTIST!! Hm, but she might be able to remove it someday...
Seriously this Randy Cohen has a sick idea of what "ethical" is. Apparently you can ship jobs overseas and not put con-artists in jail and still be ethical.

So, because there's another mp3 player that is cheaper, the iPod is overpriced?
that's faulty logic, we need a car analogy.
Hyundai Accent is $10,000, does that mean the Civic, Camry and Cruze are all overpriced? They're all cars and they all come with 4-cylinder engines, what's the difference, right? Yet the Camry is the best selling car in America despite costing almost double what the Accent does.
"what if i modify all of these ?"
;) Hey maybe you'll be on /.! "Budget Hyundai to Porsche"
Do that and let us know

But thanks to this article I found out that Overdrive offers an iPhone app so I can download books and audio straight to my phone. This is great! They even made a video explaining how it works.
They also have an Android version and here's a video by a user.
"Where are these cyber soldiers coming from?"

Doom was also just violence against aliens and zombies, which in the US is completely acceptable for afternoon cartoons.
Depicting drug use, on the other hand, is HIGHLY regulated by censors. Movie called Kids came out in 1995 that depicted young teenagers doing drugs that earned it a NC-17 rating from the MPAA.
Bioshock will never be made into a movie and released in the US, which is good because no one can screw it up.

64gb iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G is $800. Double memory, same price.
If you don't need all that you can buy a 16gb iPad for $488
Good luck Xoom, at $800 you're going to need a lot more than a Superbowl commercial to beat the iPad.
