no chance in hell of this happening. if you notice, they managed to state trademark information for their products mentioned in the article, such as the PSP, but gave no "Tiger is a Trademark of Apple Computer" or whatnot anywhere. this was just to show that it is capable of running the OS. just because it's capable doesn't mean that it will. x86 boxes are capable of running OSes such as linux or Apple's Tiger (for x86) but does that mean that apple is releasing OS X for whiteboxes? only if you're a naive newbie who is sitting there going "oh sweet! tiger for x86 and ps3!", instead of someone that actually pays attention to news and trends.
i personally don't think that evolution and creationism are mutually exclusive. nothing in the bible (NOTHING) says that god couldn't have used a natural process such as evolution to create life today, just as evolution says NOTHING to the tone of god couldn't have started evolution. convoluted darwinism does, but the idea of natural selection and evolution is entirely independent of faith.
i view evolution as god's interface with creating the earth -- the physical process that we observe from the metaphysical behind it.
i cant believe people modded me down after being 5-Funny! people, it was a joke! there will be no g5 ibooks, and there is no g6 in the works! some people just need a sense of humor, and experience on/.
exactly. most people buy macs for only a handful of reasons:
1) the case looks good 2) their ipod was amazing 3) Mac OS X 4) media content creation software, FCP, etc.
and i have not once heard of someone i know (maybe some people on/. have) purchasing a mac because of the processor. they could really care less. even the more experienced people i know don't give a flip about G4/G5/etc. granted, G5 does sound good when you're talking about it in conversation, but other than that, its not a huge selling point for most people.
since posting this on/. just begs for opinions, here's my critical opinion of this clever, creative work:
the wood with gloss looks very nice. the snaps on the back and smoothness of the finish makes it look very classy. however, the click wheel and button look VERY cheesy, too rounded. if it wereless glossy and rounded, and probably with engraved control labels, it would be much more professional and easy on the eyes. the screen was not cut out professionally at all. you did such an excellent job on the rest, why skimp on the screen?! the cutout is wavy, not smooth, and it looks very last-minute.
but all in all, great stuff. and i like the black dock.
wow, i need to read harder before going on a rant. i just realized that you're defending keeping free OTA broadcasts, not harping on those that don't use them. sorry!
i think your logic is completely stupid, no offense, but you're going to use that argument.
you don't pay for the priviledge, you can get over the air for free. you pay for the channels. cable channels aren't operating gratis; they couldn't do it for free. paying a monthly subscription to cable pretty much guarantees that the channels will have business, and they can stay in business without much flux. you pay for quality, content, and ease of use. i'm happy to pay $40/mo not to have to adjust an antenna to only get a handful of channels. and now, i'm happy to pay $70/mo for digital cable with HDTV, because my HDTV doesn't have a tuner, and the cheapest HDTV with a tuner when i got mine was $800, when mine was $300. and again, i'd rather pay $70 to get 200 channels and 12 HD channels than buy a $800 TV to only get 5 HD channels over the air, again adjusting the antenna.
its a novelty. you aren't paying for a priviledge to watch TV, you're paying for content. using your logic, all newspapers, magazines, and comic books should be free.
actually, his comment was one of two at mod 5 level right after it was posted. the first was the top post, then his was second. the others show up above his, because they are children of the top mod 5 post. maybe you should check times before you act condescending?
spokesman Blake Stowell argued. 'We don't necessarily have issues with open source, we just have an issue with open-source technology that includes intellectual property it shouldn't' he said.
i argue, "you might want to watch your use of 'he said'", i said.
that article doesnt prove anything, it just recaps what happened over the past weeks.
you're right in one aspect, that the developer transition boxes will not be using open firmare. but neither you nor i can, at this point, be sure that they won't use OF for their intel-based *real* products. OF contributes to the ease of use and "just works"-ness of the system, and apple is not going to switch to a decades old BIOS over OF. they might, however, use the new 64-bit one from intel and the big players, i think its EFI but i might be mistaken on the acronym. but its all speculation at this point.
nope. you might see intel making powerpc though. if apple ports mac os x to x86, thats cool and all, but none of the applications will work, then they'll go back to the mess of the 68k to powerpc switchover, where you have 2 versions of every product. considering powerpc is working so well for apple, and steve jobs just said he's happy with the powerpc architecture, then this story seems to be bogus. not worth apple's effort.
actually, i used to buy a bunch of stuff from tigerdirect. mainly because i had never heard anything bad about it, somehow missed all those comments while browsing the web, none of my friends had ever said anything bad... and they had great deals.
so i would be one of both people that still had respect for them, and yes, i no longer do.
maybe i should have picked up on that when i got a case with a dented in side panel. damn, i venture into the PC world (from the mac world) for one $300 PC and i help contribute to their legal funds.

Safari vs. KHTML

APPLE IS NOT A LINUX DEVELOPER.
they take the changes to KHTML, put them out on the web because they are legally using it for THEIR product, and then the KHTML guys can access the code, go "ohhh thats how they do it" and implement it or even copy some code into the KHTML code base. apple has zero responsibility to release code that runs on linux/x11/win32/whatever. they released the source code, they ARE contributing (but for another platform), and there is no problem here.
people should be granted design patents, not software patents. design patents denote a unique design. apple obviously created the brushed metal interface for itunes, since it created OS X and there was no other completely similar product before, so they legally should be entitled to owning the fact that they created it, and if someone makes one like it on windows, they can sue them. thats how patents work.
however, if apple got a patent for the tablet idea itself or how to input to one, thats another story, those are more ambiguous. but design patents are crucial for creativity.
and if anyone didnt notice, about the time tiger was released, Adium 0.8 was released, and what an upgrade it is. however, its crashed on me a few times and is laden with bugs. hopefully 0.8.1 will be released alongside Mac OS X 10.4.1.
but i haven't noticed any problems with tiger, except one with dashboard. any dashboard widget which has a tooltip-like text that pops up when you hover over part of it will display that tooltip text when that mouse is on that part of the screen when dashboard isn't shown. for example, my TV channel widget pops up "NBC" when i hover over the NBC channel, but when dashboard isnt shown, when i move over where it would be on dashboard, i see the tooltip thing. anyone else having this problem? its quite annoying. luckily, none of the apple standard widgets AFAICT have tooltip windows, just custom ones.

hahahahaha wow. i guess you missed the sarcastic tone of this ENTIRE thread.
i'm waiting for the g5 ibook.
i hear there's a g6 powermac in the works, too. this coming from my friend who is an apple rep in cupertino.

no, it wasn't. the developer suite was still costly. i think if you owned mac os x server, then you could run WO apps for free, though.
my apologies, i missed the line about AMT.

mac port, good stuff, but what i'm REALLY interested in, when does a version for a modded xbox come out?
not that i have one, or anything... but playing that with a controller would be so nice, and over the internet with Win/Linux/Mac players...
i haven't played it yet, as i'm waiting for the mac version, but it seems great, esp. considering it is open source and community driven!
"HP is selling iPods, and is also the premier Itanium vendor. Coincidence?" if apple is relying on HP for ANYTHING, run for cover!!!
My girlfriend has one called a QuickPad and she uses it a lot. it has a 4 line LCD, and transmits to your computer over IR. it comes with an IR receiver which taps into the PS/2 jack. here's a quick google: http://www.enablemart.com/productDetail.aspx?store =10&pid=945&dept=15
or Intel XScale processors for a video ipod...
