If there were true constants in nature, wouldn't there be true identical items in existance? How many truly identical items have you ever come across?
It is understood that outside factors cause variations in the development of items in nature. I can't measure the submicroscopics of gasses 12 billion light years away. They didn't teach me that in college. I think that there is a lot of assumption based on theory here that injects a exponential margin for chaotic error. It has already been proven that math does not translate to the real world. To wax philosophical, when do you ever have 2 quarks? The very idea that there are 2 different quarks establishes them with enough difference to make them unique. Therefore, they are different. Hell, the thoughts that I just had in my head changed some part of my brain chemistry while writing this little pointless reply, nothing stays the same and nothing was ever how you thought it was a millisecond before or after you decided it was as it was. Phase space is a dance, dimensions are a dream, fact is opinion based on acceptance and I am stuck in the middle.
Those who desire to find scientific explanation for chaos are attempting to murder it.
Maybe I want to queue up a fresh pot from my car via text msg and see statistics on bean grinder RPM and have a MySQL database house all by coffee drinking habits for big brother to download. Wouldn't you want to see this on the web? Have some RSS feeds come down to tell me where the freshest beans are shipping from and have my coffee maker order it automatically. How am I going to do all that and feel comfortable if I can see it all in my browser from work?
I think it is time for a new scheme all the way around. DNS was designed to make finding resources easier. Now that we are almost to the point of passing out all the 'easy' domain names, why shouldn't we develop a better solution? If I had bought SEARS.biz, do you think that SEARS would be seeing a lot of my traffic?
IPv6 will only make this even more difficult. Once we get to the point of having every single appliance we own on an IPv6 address and administrated over the Internet, we will need a better catalog based scheme that is rooted to each consumer. Something like:
www.ixixi(nationalid#).home.kitchen.coffemaker
I would expect that National ID #'s will have to come into play since it should be unique.
Just some thoughts. I am interested to see responses as this is quite perplexing to me based on how exponentially the Internet is growing.
Don't be fooled by current trends or market statistics. Remember, Japan claimed they wanted to get into the auto business many decades ago. We laughed at them.
What has been the popular choice for the last 20 years may or may not sustain. Taking gradual small percentages of market share over the 5-10 years will be the sneaking dagger.
Apple is making distinct changes in how they are positioning themselves. Microsoft is just patching and repatching the same old monolithic liabilities. I mean who needs 6 different versions of the same crap? You can take fecal matter, shape it into bunny shapes, squirrels, etc. but at the end of the day it is still fecal matter. Look at the latest rewrite decision.
I would bet that the personal home computer in it's current config will be a dinosaur prior to MS tanking though.
If a company can show sales figures at a particular time in the fiscal year, it may be more of an advantage over the lag in release date. It is a balancing act that is dancing between marketing promises, top line sales, etc.
There is more to it that quality and features.
Humans can act like conditioned lab rats with the right motivation. Look at those Halebop cult people who killed themselves over some crazy dude's ramblings. So, when there is a mass of people that widely accept a religeous text and fanatically interpret the meaning, there will be a few who blindly look in and pull out the basics without understanding the detail. I find myself quoting scripture in my own defense at times and I am not religeous at all. I think it is a safety net that people wrap themselves in because they don't want to think about the here-after. I can't wait to find out why there is so much suffering, death, hate, pain and lack of purpose in this world. To quote a lyric: " I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors but I think that God has a sick sense of humor and when I die I expect to find him laughing."
This isn't a fat finger mistake but a funny story. This lady that I worked with was Internet illiterate. She wanted to set up an e-mail address so she could send junk home that was personal in nature. She had trouble with her ISP e-mail and no one at work wanted to volunteer to intercede and help out. I told here to just go to hotmail.com and set up an account for free. She went to hotmale.com and started screaming !! She thought she would be fired on the spot...I had to get the President, John, to help calm her down...hell she was almost 66 years old. Never saw anything like that I guess./snicker
Let the FBI sniff the Internet. Hackers do it all day long. If you don't download kiddie porn or try to hack NORAD, you probably won't get in trouble for it. Unless, you are one of those idiots that leaves wireless default like my neighbor and invites trouble. Then you should be in court like MJ and his dirty mag with 13 year olds' dick beater prints on the pages. Consider the environment and play with caution. Are you more worried about the FBI or a hacker? Maybe a little of both? Oops !! I went to a shitty porn site with an unpatched system. Now it is driving my browser to every mule sucking underaged whore site on the 3rd world subnets and the feds are up my ass. Poor me !!
I am addicted to masturbating to MMORPG's while wearing my grandma's old wedding dress. Does that make me a risk for antisocial behavior? I am 35 so I guess I wouldn't get off cuz of my parents. Since they are locked up in a dungeon under my house and are made to perform my bidding wearing old cheerleader outfits and no pants while listening to Marylin Manson and beating dead puppies with a whisk.... errr I think I have said too much....
These people are trying to create a chaotic learning environment. When you teach creationism, you are teaching faith. When you teach evolution theory, you are teaching scientific method. Some would argue that creationism could be taught as a form of scientific explanation but the payload is religion which is much too volatile. I doubt there are any evolutionists bombing abortion clinics for the sake of life. Religion spawns fanaticism which unfortunately contains bias, arrogance and closed mindedness.
Cheer! Preach on bro. Building your own is pure ego. We all know we can do it. Who wants that legacy and resposibility? Someone with a self persecution complex. When that server fails god forbid it was a production box. All those "attaboys" will turn into 1-800-unemployed.
I agree, a server is only as good as the service contract. I would much rather blame a vendor for a hardware failure than take one on the chin for trying to 'home grow' a server. I have had to clean up these loads of crap in the past. Give me a SLA and a 1-800 # and let them scream.

Now I will have to build a new Flux Capacitor!

Bottom line.. Even if global warming isn't a reality, that is no excuse to act irresponsibly with our manufacture and use of products.
Don't we already have enough GUI based file tools? What does this 'truly' add? I didn't see true value described..please help me.

Big Brother and the NSA should have their genitals revoked. They are spawning too many little bastard children.
I am quite sure that mine would be quarantined due to virus or file corruption. A true eulogy to my life experience with MS products.
Wouldn't this be like wearing a "Certified Trained Sexual Dynamo Boyfriend" t-shirt into a singles bar. A little to nerdy for me.
If there is a god, I pray that he strike me dead right....

Hey !! Someone on the 'inside' told me that dark matter is what the aliens use to create Starbucks.

SuSE is stable, stable and did I mention stable?

I feel sorry for the outcome of that root cause analysis. Would love to have been a fly on the wall when all that went down.
I am going back to my own planet. You humans are just too silly.
