XF86 version 4 uses a different filename from three because they are incompatable or something. That's what the (-4) is for...shorthand
Current releases will use/etc/X11/XF86Config Older versions of xfree after 4 was released use/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 Versions before 4 use/etc/X11/XF86Config
The -4 was added so the new configs for version 4 would not overwrite the old version 3 configs. Now that version 4 is mature enough, they have dropped the -4 since most people using xfree-4.2 no longer have traces of xfree-3.x
Did that make since? If it did, please explain it to me:)
Between native released games/ports for Linux, WineX, DOSbox, DOSemu and vmware I have nearly full access to my 12+ year collection of games. It is a little more work to use the older games and some new ones, but to me not having to reboot to play any of these games is a huge plus
Yes, it $15 for the first 3 months (minimum) and $5/month afterwards.
You are free to cancel after those first 3 months anytime
You are free to browse and download as often as needed during that time. I don't have a copy of the license available, but I believe it is a per-user license. But I'm not sure...I have it on two of my machines at least
I have Wine, WineX (3 different versions), CrossOver Office and CrossOver Plugin They were smart enough to give each directory their own path and commands in/usr/bin/ so nothing stomps on each other at all
Works fine, just make sure you have the resolution option in your/etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) otherwise you will have problems. Most games default to 800x600 when they start, but cover all the bases and add all the common resolutions
I managed to see the newsletter and check it out before Slashdot posted it...phew!
Of course, they are probably not down...most likely too many people clicked at once cloging their pipe. They should be fine by now or soon If I offered $50 to whoever asks, I sure as hell know that I'd physically get Slashdotted in seconds!
Are you saying that the CVS is incomplete? The only code that is 'removed' from the CVS is the CD-Copy-Protection code that is licensed and they are not allowed to distribute in a 'free source code' manner...
Only the binaries that they distribute under their subscription includes this code. Is it so bad that A) they are trying to make ends meet (pay the bills) and B) keeping themselves from getting sued out of exisitance?
With 802.11, you'd better check the map before traveling to see if it's worth bringing your laptop.
I wouldn't say that anymore, a couple weeks ago I went to South Dakota to see family and decided to scan for WLANs through town...In less then a mile on one residental street I found a dozen APs, 4 of which had WEP enabled.
If you don't have problems 'stealing' other peoples bandwidth, there is an open AP on almost every residental street corner.
I can get to 4 open networks from my house in Aurora! People are buying WAP enabled routers for their DSL/Cable modems and I'd say about 70% (if not more) run with the defaults, maybe changing the admin password...maybe.
The problem is people are not educated on wireless security, and why bother? They refuse to believe that someone is going to hijack their network and release a virus, break into another network or some other criminal task...it's like AIDS, it won't happen to ME.
This international competition can be won by the first team to create a reusable aircraft that can launch three passengers into sub-orbital space, return them safely home, then repeat the launch within two weeks with the same vehicle.
That's what is needed to get the X-Prize, and this was one very large step to making that goal!
The capsule will make a soft landing in the Utah desert in January 2006.
Or anywhere near that part of the country, nobody knows what is in this capsule.
As much as we know it can contain some strange alien material that may have an 'explosive' reaction to our atmosphere. Or better yet, life in the form of bacteria or a virus.
Yes, I've watched WAY TO MUCH of the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone!
What do you mean non-centrino? They have had working drivers for months now
Sure, they project is still in beta but they do work very well with the Intel Pro/Wireless 2100 The ipw2200 (wireless g) project is showing great progress after only a month
I'm sure it will have a jack for headphones...although I'm with you, it doesn't matter to me much for the same reasons
BUT, my daughter loves to crank the volume all the way up on her GBA and annoy me with it...still, I'm getting the DS for myself and she will keep the GBA for herself (and I can stop 'barrowing' it from her:)
Weapons that STOP THE HEART are now considered ok???
Yes, as long as they don't make the victum blind it's all good...
Death is an unfortunate side affect at times. Remember, you can gun someone down with a.50 cal machine gun, but if you zap him in the eye with a laser causing eye damage...you are an evil vial person!
For some reason, I find being blind a tad bit better off then being dead.

It's a D-Link, that's what they do
I got rid of all my D-Link equipment after about 2 weeks (it took 24 hours to return the PCMCIA card) If you can get them to work in Linux, great job! If you can get them to work in Windows, you got lucky!
I'd get LinkSys as I've had zero problems with their wireless equipment and perform very well. Cisco is another great choice if you can afford their hardware (3-4X the price of LinkSys)
Or then again, maybe people aren't reading the dialog carefully before pressing okay or something.
You say that as if people DO read the dialogs!
When I installed the last RC and everyone was crying over deleted bookmarks, the only thing I could find was maybe they selected to import the bookmarks for IE? I didn't import any and it read my old bookmarks just fine...
Of course it doesn't help anyone when all people say is "It deleted my bookmarks!!!!"
Um, ok...details please. What OS What previous version installed What optins did you select What time was it Where are you located (could be from sunspots)
I agree, SAMBA is one of the largest piles of mess I've ever run across. Most of the docs available tell you TOO much, which is just confusing and causes more problems then it solves.
When I first used SAMBA I read through the entire documentation. After the headache subsided, I only needed to look at 3 pages to configure it. Then I used SWAT and had to reconfigure it afterwards since it messed it all up.
I currently have a SAMBA server running on Fedora Core 1, works great with very little trouble using the GUI to select the shares and permissions. Even have my printer setup through it, works great.
The thing with SAMBA is, once you have it working...don't mess with it!
IT should be OK to go there and look around, but they will not be able to get any good evidence since it has been baried for over 2000 years, they will need to dig to find anything worthwhile
What I don't get is why someone just doesn't go there and start having a look around?
It's located in a Spainish National Park. You need to get permission from Spian to do that...you can't just walk into a National Park anywhere and start digging Unless you enjoy prision time...
But once permission is granted, it's a field day for Field Research
Instead of installing the hotfix, wouldn't the fix technically be just blocking ports 445, 113, 3067? And other random port, yes it would work if you can predict those other random ports
Heh, what does xenophobia have to do with bad shipping? I'm just saying I don't think I will order from them again since they are slow getting it to me (It was shipped from them only a couple days after I placed the order, so the problem is not them it's the process of getting overseas which we can blame on customs for)
Why's everyone in a pissy mood today? It's Friday, the weekend is almost here...be happy! =)
Counterstrike is used as an example because it is true. The game (Half-Life mod) came out almost 5 years ago and is still the #1 played online game. It's not about the graphics or eye-candy, it's about gameplay.
Same with Pac-Man, it's a fun game. Just the other day I was in one of those arcades with my 6 year-old daughter, I was playing Pinball (these things are rare and are still the most fun!) and what was my daughter playing? Pac-Man I personally have also moved from the CounterStrike thing and like the more engaging Enemy Territory and UT2004. But sometimes more is not always better. RtCW:ET and UT2004 contain the things that make gaming fun.
