  4. Very subtle yes on Is There Still Racism in IT Hiring Practices? · · Score: 1

Yes, there is some discrimination going on, but it is very subtle. Most of it is age discrimination though, not racial. Nobody wants to hire older guys, because they are perceived as being too expensive.

In terms of racial lines, it seems to be discrimination against Africans in general and I mean real Africans, people that were born and raised there, because their training is perceived as low quality, compared to other parts of the world.

Well, duh - use a vacuum cleaner and wipe with Windex. However, don't be an ass and spray Windex on the machine - spray on a wad of paper, then wipe - having fluid run inside is not a good idea. I always clean machines I get in for repair, BEFORE I work on them...

  12. No way - no shortage of ore on Earth's Copper Supply Inadequate For Development? · · Score: 1

If there really is a copper 'shortage' then I suppose someone will eventually reopen one or two of the scores of abandoned copper mines in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Most copper mines were closed when the telecom industry switched to co-axial cable and later optical fibre, which caused demand to drop spectacularly some 25 years ago.

  17. Plutonium isn't really poisonous on Atlas 5 Rocket Set to Launch Pluto Probe · · Score: 1

The toxicity is propaganda. Plutonium has a half life in the order of 25000 years. It radiates about as much as mild steel made from normal, slightly radio-active anthracite. Some scientist actually swallowed some plutonium once just to prove the point. So, yeah, eating heavy metals is not recommended, but the toxicity and radiation danger is way overblown.

It is a very strong legal document, based on Copyright law, which is pretty uniform accross the globe, due to international treaties. It was drawn up by a well known law professor, so I would say it is as good as it gets.
