When I was hosting large parties I had everyone fill out a checklist of what they brought in and then it was checked by staff at the desk to verify it before they were allowed to setup. This list was also checked before they were allowed to leave as well. Combine that with placing staff members at the end of every row, or scattered evenly among seats alot of the would-be thieves chicken out. That was the point, to try and prevent the petty thieves because honestly at a LAN thats all you can do. People who are going there with thoughts of stealing stuff will, those who look at something while there and say "hmm can I take that" will probably not.
One thing I also recommend is bumping admission fees up by 2$ per person. They wont notice the difference but it helps to start your "replacement fund" and over a few LAN's you should have a nice chunk of change to be able to replace anything that gets stolen.
Bah, been a while since I posted, heres a properly formatted response.
MY OPINION: Your article is so slanted its not even funny... What happen to proper journalism? The issue is that a dev was cheating, but the fact that CCP did what they did should be the focus, not on everything else. Yea CCP should have said something months ago when they found out about T20, but they didn't and have ADMITTED to making a mistake about it... When was the last time you saw a MMO Company's CEO ADMIT to fucking things up?
Overall CCP was far more open in this then all the other MMO companies would have been, and there is a very vocal minority of the forums that are blowing this way out of size.
Its that group of the forums that are getting our of hand and think that they are being silenced and muffled and they need to strike back by giving CCP bad press...
CCP did the best they could, and did better then any MMO company has in the past, and probably will in the future when dealing with these sorts of issues, and its about time people start respecting that.
Just for everyone to know, Ive listed the facts below, to compare with the OP's and trolls above account(s).
FACTS:
CCP found out a Dev was cheating, They disciplined the Dev 8 months ago. They didn't inform the community;(
CCP created the tools to monitor thier staff and hired someone to do that 40 hours a week. They are paying someone to just watch over the Devs to try and prevent this in the future...
The Community found out about this months later and wanted to know what happened, and if there was anything CCP missed.
CCP communicated with the community as best they could, and better then any other MMO company ever would have saying they would investigate and find any more details they could.
CCP found that the Dev had given illegal items to someone in game, that may have not been removed. CCP then removed illegal items.
CCP allowed discussion on the events, in the open, for everyone to talk about.
CCP then answered all the questions they could about it without infringing on anyones privacy.
CCP then decided to state there was no more need for discussion as they cant give any more details out.

Hey Guys,
A quick note to all of our community leaders and file partners. We inadvertently released an out-dated Linux version for today's Battlefield 2 Demo Server. It is imperative that you not make this available on your web sites and that you let people from your media outlets know not to host it for download or run demo servers with it. We will follow up early next week with a version that works.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to call or email me.
Yes. All that HAS been done before. And as a Hardcore gamer, HALO runs waaaaay to slow on PC/MAC to be enjoyable. Then engine is slow, the gameplay is slow, everything is slow.
Nvidia has this already!
"About Cg
The Cg Language Specification is a high-level C-like graphics programming language that was developed by NVIDIA in close collaboration with Microsoft Corporation. The Cg environment consists of two components: the Cg Toolkit including the NVIDIA Cg Compiler Beta 1.0 optimized for DirectX(R) and OpenGL(R); and the NVIDIA Cg Browser, a prototyping/visualization environment with a large library of Cg shaders. Developers also have access to user documentation and a range of training classes and online materials being developed for the Cg language."
Masters of Chess have long been awarded with being the most logical of thinkers, and being calm and precise. Computers are based on logic, but not necessary all things make sense in a logical world. Could the applications of the software and setup of X3D Fritz help to quicken the evolution of computers to that seen in movies of the future?
What are the repricussions of these "chess robots"?
Think outside the box, the ability to port these algorithims to non chess applications serves a chance to change the future completly.
Most users dont know they have to patch/update. How many people knew to change the oil in thier cars when Ford introduced them to the public? What we NEED is a global education on the dangers of running ANY Operating System Unpatched.
ISP Logs of all traffic? Lets see, I can push 1mbps down all day long, and my ISP has hundreds of thousands of users, do you really want to do the math on that? The ISP's want nothing to do with the courts, so they DONT keep logs, besides it is ALOT of space.
Think about it, if you dont keep logs, how can you get called to court and asked to explain what the logs mean to the jury who half the time think linux is someones pet penguin!
There are enough nerds in high places to keep this from happening across the world. DRM is a DReaM of the big companies. It wont ever make it into 100% use.
Yes you can. There are settings on every url filter list I have used to remove/add sites based on your needs. You can probably even turn on/off categories
Hmm. Because linux out of the box is a GREAT firewall. no shh bugs, no apache bugs, nothin. Straight SEKKURE!>?!?! man. Oh and there are no linux virus's out there. hmmmm. Linux is not the answer to everything guys.
Yea, i know +5 Flaimbait for being honest and knockin zealots down a peg.
Most url filters work like this. We are looking into putting a new one in at work to replace our AV Gateway box which uses Surf Control so we have tested around 20 products, 95% do this as well. Its really not that uncommen. Some even go as nuts as blocking any site where you can purchase knifes and lumping them in the weapons category.
It wouldnt be that bad if we werent a culinary school!!
It is not 10% skill, It requires alot more than that. Really, people need to stop looking down on people that are good at fps saying "that requires no skill" or "those are brainless games" because they are not.
You need to learn during every match how your opposition plays, and match that to your play (including your weaknesses) in order to come out on top. It doesnt require the same type of thinking and skill that other game types do, but it IS still none the less.
Try not to be so hard on us "Elite Players" by making yourself feel better saying we dont have any skill.
Its like a new toy, Every new OS gets to be played around with a bit. We have a few 2000/nt4 boxes that are in production that we are slowly moving to 2003. While the move is going on (2 months per box) that means we have a 2003 server and a nt4/2000 server doin the same thing. Lets see what the numbers state after the rollout cycles are complete, and lets not jump to any conclusions (like jumping ship).
Besides if SCO didnt convince you to jump ship yet (we cant afford 700$ per copy can you?) then your a lifer!
Hey SCO I guess that means im using the WaReZ copy of linux!

Due to bad internal testing, the wrong version of the server went out to us linux admins.

Well I am assuming Adaptec knows this, and am sure It will show up in the case.
Is the burning software in Windows XP licensed by Roxio to MS or is the technology behind it owned by MS? Could lead to MS being in trouble too.

This might be hard to beat. Anyone using a cd burner 8 years ago?
Many past world chess champions have also been noted for having serious personality and psychological problems.
Dont we all? Or is that just what the doctor's told me and my good friends up in my head.

Its not new, Its not esr's Idea, Its almost 3 months old!!!
I agree, this may set a precedance. If this gets ruled in favor of consumers, where shall the RIAA stand?
It should pick up the newer profile when you first run it. It should ask for the profile you want to use.
