I remember when Delphi 1.0 came out in the mid 90s - people refered to it as "D" - it had the power of C++ in terms of being fully object oriented, allow for pointers (unlike VB) etc. yet was easier to use, especially for RAD. In short - been there, done that.
When I saw the "30th anniversary Mac", I did some quick math - Mac came out in 1984, plus 30 years equals 2014 - it didn't make sense until I realized they meant the 30th anniversary of APPLE. In which case, the 30th anniversary computer should be a new version of the Apple ][ - now THAT would be cool. (OK technically the Apple 1, but that would be kind of silly)
What makes those products innovative is not that they are slightly bigger or faster than last years model - its the technology behind it that made the improvement. A 500 GB HD is just a larger 400 GB HD - but the new 750 GB model uses all new technology that made the improvment possible. THATS the innovation.
Good thing the last console I bought was an Atari 2600! Although for the first time since the original Nintendo (which I never did purchase) I'm tempted by a console - the Wii.
NOT TRUE. The two second gap is for ANY speed, even 5 mph - that is why the gap is measures in seconds, not distance - it is related to human reaction time.
...is one of my favorite quotes of all time, and was said by Mr. Ford in the wake of the Nixon resignation. I'm actually old enough to remember when Ford was president (And Chevy Chase spoofing him on Saturday Night Live). From what I know, he seemed liked a geniunely nice guy. He will be missed.
mod parent up as insightful! That was the first thing I thought of - "not another war episode/series/movie". What happened to exploring strange new worlds? Can anyone even remember when that was what Star Trek was about?
How would the Christians feel if us non-Christians put out a "War on Christmas" video game where Christians were hunted down and Trees, Lights, and presents destroyed for additional points?

Did anyone else read this as Steve Jobs Execution? Guess I've been looking at too many Sadam Hussein stories online today...
This list is UK-Centric - what about us American readers??? Slashdot is far to oriented to the UK these days.
Multiple $5 iTunes Gift Cards? I would hardly call that "loaded".
I don't recognize the reference - perhaps you'd care to explain it instead?
Mod parent down as troll!
And I GAVE them as gifts (Christmas party grab bag, etc.), so I guess I contributed to the mess.

Curse you for making me crack up laughing at work!
You live in Pittsburgh too, eh?
LOL funniest comment of the year!

Homer: Hey, Nachos are Nachos.
Why? It was the "classy" thing to do.
I remember discussing this in my engineering dynamics class in 1983 (my prof did research into traffic patterns)

Yes, because the atmosphere on the moon will protect us from....oh wait, never mind.
nope, that was "Star Trek - the Next Generation". Although TOS did some ferrying in its day.

Post-Its. Teflon. Saccharin. Potato Chips. Frisbees. Penicillin.
"Fringe Group?" As Apu once said to Rev. Lovjoy, "There are over one billion of us, sir"
