this is going to take on modern GNOME/KDE? I'll try to contain my fear...
But with that I must say I will welcome our 1995 overlords with cookies and milk that has past its expiration
I think the reason everyone jumps on MS for "innovations" such as this and not the Linux community is due to the fact that we're talking about a multi-BILLION dollar corporation who happens to be raking in the dollars shamelessly for these innovations and usually calls them as such. There's no mistaking that. Nobody wants to hear that their ideas have been taken by a monopoly and is going to be touted as an "all new feature". That's just bullshit.
Heheh that was me who made the movie. The only reason I didn't "read" it was to conserve time and ultimately filesize:) It was meant as more of an example of an actual install than anything. We plan on doing more "media" in the future, but not just the installer. We've got some interesting things up our sleeves as far as that goes. Traditional reviews will soon be a thing of the past...
I worked for MGM MIRAGE (large Las Vegas hotel/casino corporation) for the better part of 5yrs and let me tell you it is definitely the normal there. This is really sad not only because they don't value skilled employees enough to properly compensate them, but it's taken to extremes. There were people there who were around alot longer than myself who had received NO raises... EVER. MGM MIRAGE considers a 2.x% annual cost of living raise an actual "raise" when in reality it doesn't even keep up with skyrocketing housing costs, gas prices, etc etc etc. Considering they amount of net profit this company pulls in every hour there is absolutely no excuse. Not only are they paid pitifully for the hard work they do, IS management treats the employs with utter contempt. As long as they get their bonuses and inflated salaries it's all good. F*ck the people who's shoulders you're standing on. The moment you mention anything about the situation you're labeled "combative". I can't tell you how many times I attempted to stand up for my fellow co-workers to attempt to get a better work environment and at least a little respect but it was always met with a blank stare and a "current salary surveys say we're right in line with blah blah blah blah". It's pretty sick I tell you. I finally grew tired of their BS and moved to a company who knows how to not only properly compensate their valued employees but to also treat them with respect. Until corporate monkeys (like those controlling computer engineering at MGM MIRAGE) can learn that their employees will actually respect them more if they grew a spinal column like all the other primates out there and stood up for their workers... rather than sitting on their fat controlling asses sucking up all the extra cash they can while their co-workers are scraping together money to keep food on the table for their families.
Sorry for the rant but this is a topic that really pisses me off after I saw how they treated their employees and then brag about record profits every year... I will say this last thing: there are companies out there who do value their people and still compensate them properly. I am a happy employee of just that type of company now and jumping from MGM MIRAGE was the best move I ever made. Others have followed in my wake and more will follow them until mgmt realizes how idiotic they really have been... when it's too late.
Adam here (owner of Mad Penguin). Just noticed we got Slashdotted and figured I'd come over to see what kinda comments were over here. and there is nobody with that email address writing for us. Of course, I guess anything is possible and that Christian could post under a different name, but I know him fairly well and it's not something he would do. I know that doesn't mean much to everyone here, but I am posting under my own name here and standing up for him because he's a stand up guy. I'd assume the poster is a reader? We've had a few people like that over the years who just sorta gravitate toward us and then stick with us to become news posters, writers, admins, etc. This could very well be the same thing. In any case I just wanted to say something so that no ill will would be wrongly directed toward us or any of our writers.:)
This may be off topic, and if so feel free to mod it down, but I figure this is a good place to mention it as any. DIYParts.org is a site dedicated to allowing users to post computers and/or parts at no cost. Likewise it's a place for people to shop for free computer parts. With an exchange like this, we can do our part to help keep the landfills free of parts that really don't need to be there in the first place. It's a good idea for a site really, and I guess for all intents and purposes it's a Craigs List, but more focused/fine-tuned for computer hardware. It may not save the world, but can go a long way to actually pushing out the shelf live of PC parts...
Yes indeed! Anyone good enough with database and theme design to assist with a migration to Drupal? heh:) I'm game if we can find one. Drupal has been a personal goal of mine for some time.
Seriously. I had envisioned something similar last year but this really takes the cake, or so to speak. I have yet to try Autopackage, but after seeing this, I'm sold. Especially if it works as intended. Cross-distro package management is what we need. Sure, DEB, RPM, TGZ, etc etc are all excellent in their own right, but being able to install packages across multiple distros is what we really need. I for one am impressed. Of course there are a few technical details that I need to learn about as far as cross-distro packaging goes, but it's a step in the right direction in any event.
Not sure if you all know this or not, but Megadeth is releasing a new album on September 12... all of which was released to P2P networks a day ago. Dave Mustaine is obviously upset, as they only handed out a few promo copies of the disc to close ties...
From what they are saying though, each copy was digitally signed with a unique signature so tracking down the 'leaker' should be fairly easy.
My point exactly! I mean, we all know why they do that;) (hint: $$$$$) but seriously it's annoying. By the way.. why was my post modded as offtopic?? I believe it's very ON topic! Mod me up or die goshdarnitall!

Does he think that's going to get him out of our contract?!?! HAH! -- Satan

or was their choice of Arabic translation text a bit... ummm... odd? Of all the things to choose from, they chose this? Wow.

HA! That's got to be an old picture! Here's a more recent photo.... and this an even more recent one.
Don't fear Microsoft? Next thing to you're going to tell us is that the the Melissa Etheridge is straight!
I'm telling!
MMMMOOOOOMMMM!!!!
Darl McBride is living proof you can survive with no pulse.
To the contrary... our review of this release from the 25th describes how *difficult* it was to get the network working properly. Not good at all...
<grinning>Thanks!</grinning>

It's pretty much the same thing, but there it is anyway... Aren't I resourceful?
Hey "Idoit", it's called a misspelling.. perhaps you've either heard of that term before? Or perhaps even done one or two yourself ;)
