Of course, I am not quite sure where all the animosity comes from.
Here's N'Sync's take on it during their hit single, "Pop":

It's my opinion that BRock97 is defending Lance Bass so fiercefully because he is Lance Bass.:)
Oh my God, oh my God! My twin brother's been spammed! I think it was some Asian spam or something... there was this spam; it looked Asian! It was written in another language, I'm pretty sure it was... Asian!

Anyone who argues "Oh, I don't care if they invade my privacy, I'm not doing anything illegal." should watch the movie Enemy of the State. At first Will Smith has that exact same attitude, until the middle of the movie where he spins it around to "That's... None of your damn business! Leave me alone!"
Shhhhhhhhhhhh.
It's not that I don't agree with you. I do. But, for the love of all that is good and holy, don't base your philosophical opinions on Enemy of the State.
I work with a Game Creation System called ZZT, designed by the now-famous Tim Sweeney of Epic Games in 1991. It utilizes a PC speaker ingame, and I've become rather well-known in the community for composing/converting songs to the PC speaker format.
I have, on occasion, converted songs such as the Bubble Bobble theme. As you're likely aware of, the PC speaker can play one tone at a time, not dissimilar to these mobile phones. Hence, the question is asked: am I [and others] who has and still do develop for the PC speaker format guilty of copyright infringement? The logic in the music industry's concept is absolutely maddening.
Napster has only increased the trouble. An easy way of figuring out who is who is this: Weird Al has sung in every song he has ever made. Even in "The Truck Drivin' Song", Al's tenor was converted to a low bass by waking up early in the morning and singing his first words into a microphone. I'm glad to know that other people realize this, R1ch...:) Just remember, boys and girls... there are a myriad of parody artists. Figure out which one did it before you name your mp3s.:)

Great solution, but there's a script that actually handles this. It can be found at http://www.xdata.org/ip.html. All you have to do is type in the URL and it converts to 32-bit decimal format. From personal experience [I attend a high school where the filter is used], because the BESS proxy blocks sites by TLD name, [i.e. slashdot.org, kuro5hin.org] the 32-bit decimal IP addresses work fantastically.:)
[General disclaimer: This is not meant as a troll. At all.]
I, personally, do not understand the tremendous appeal of Junkyard Wars.It seems to me that the original British show and even its American counterpart are designed to be brutal parodies of such "athletic" spectacles such as the World Wrestling Federation. This incredibly dry humor seems to be lost on many of the series' fans, including many slashdot readers. I'd really appreciate other people's opinions on this matter. Feel free to e-mail me or reply to this post. Again, this is not a troll or flamebait. I'd just like to hear others' feelings on this issue. Thanks.:)
BESS is the current censorware program at my high school [Pomona High in Arvada, CO]. Not only do they monitor surfing habits through the proxy [that's the method of filtering they use], but they count on sponsor ad clicks on every page filtered. There's a banner at the top as well as the bottom on every page that runs through the proxy. This profiteering from "helping the children" is absolutely shameless, and *something* must be done about it!
Not only this, but it's more than implied. We watched the Zeffirelli classic last year in my Honours English class. Juliet [played by Olivia Hussey, who was only seventeen at the time of shooting] is topless after the "sex scene." Shakespeare makes it clear to us, in the play, that sex did indeed occur.
[sarcasm]I say we ban this absolutely disgusting piece of literature, as well as the film, and protect the children![/sarcasm]
Someone should make a public web anonymizer that would mangle (reverse, rot-13, whatever random) the domainname...
I really like that idea, but the vast majority of web anonymizers out there are blocked by these censorware programs. I've tried The Internet Anonymizer as well as a few more selected scripts. They're blocked by BESS, which is the system here at Pomona. I've been thinking about setting up a private anonymizer that I could put on my box just for me, but it seems like a fairly futile point. Anyway, to sum things up, we need anonymizers to enter in anonymizer URLs.:)
Interestingly enough, the censorware program at my school [Pomona High School in Arvada, Colorado] blocks URLs in the address bar. Therefore, if the url shows up anywhere in the bar, as in
the censorware proxy blocks it. Luckily, however, it doesn't block the ip address converting system proudly displayed in this season's issue of 2600. >:) Keep freedom of speech in schools alive. Please.

I understand that this post is a joke, and a funny one at that, but it's a real issue. I've attempted to do just that: get past my high school's proxy (BESS, to be precise) by using Google's cache for articles at Salon that were blocked by the censorware service to protect against "a constantly changing website which contains information that could be offensive to some of our viewers." Because the proxy blocks sites merely based on URLs typed into the address bar, Google's cache doesn't work. [The reason for this is that it includes the original site's URL in the CGI script which locates the site being cached]. But the IP masker that was mentioned in response to a previous jamie post about the subject [as well as an article in the recent 2600] works extremely well, due to the fact that N2H2 doesn't block 32-bit IPs. If this helps anyone block out the Farenheit 451esque blocking of informative sites that the establishment attempts to utilize, so be it.:)
The article submitter (Miracle Jones) just posted a good article on this here.

Perhaps, in amazon.com fashion, Reuters could sue the Bergen LUG for patent infringement.
