    But, all that changed forever when I watched an undercover video showing some of the most deplorable acts violence committed against an innocent sow on a pig farm in North Carolina. These guys were yelling and screaming expletives at her, beating her with pipe wrenches and gate rods, sexually molesting her with a steel rod. And then to add insult to injury, smashed her over the head with a cinder block, it was then they started to skin and dismember her while she was still alive.

    that was some redneck assholes in North Carolina... a few sick individuals... DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TAR ALL SLAUGHTERHOUSE EMPLOYEES WITH THIS BRUSH...

    And as for China, dogs are routinely strung up by their hind legs and beaten to death, cats are callously tossed into vats of scalding hot water while fully conscious.

    and that's the Chinese... they have a completely different set of morals to us... they don't see anything wrong in what they're doing, and if you're upset, then you should protest to them, NOT US... there are some Chinese who don't like it, and it's up to YOU to assist them in trying to change the ways of their fellow countrymen...

    stuff like this should be done on an isolated network... ie. for those with a lack of clue, not connected to anything else at all...

    what he should have done was divided the students into small teams (by drawing lots), each responsible for setting up a set of servers on this isolated network to do specific tasks and then set the teams to securing their own servers while trying to penetrate the servers of the other teams.

    Award points for how many other servers you cracked, minus how many times your own got cracked...

    and just to put an edge to it, losing team buys dinner for the winners. Winners get to chose where the meal is (within reason)

    It's a very nice and "sexy" little package... I nearly put out for one on Sunday... glad I didn't now... I'm also looking forward to dual-booting Linux on it...

    and for the fools that complain about the puny hard disk... pah, that's what USB2 is for... there's a little Apply extermal USB disk that fits nicely underneath them... plus I picked up a nice Lacie 250GB disk the other day for only £65

    yes, very nice, but the point is, every machine has a root account, it's a given, but not having a root password means they have to obtain an account name for the machine and that's harder, especially if things have been set up correctly so that any exposed services are chrooted. That way, they can't get access to the /home directory to learn any account names. this is of course conditional on keeping up to date with security patches so that any exploits are blocked, otherwise, a simple buffer overflow could give them what they desire most, access sufficient enough to get a rootkit installed.

    oh come off it... we DO NOT WANT SOURCE CODE... seeing it taints you and makes _any_ code you write potentially dangerous. Not to mention the ridiculous NDAs you have to sign just to get to see the stuff... the source code is completely useless to the SAMBA project and any other OSS team. Microsoft know this, but they're grandstanding and hoping the general public don't know... no one wanted XP N because Microsoft made pretty damned sure the OEMs wouldn't take it up... I'd bet my last dollar that behind the scenes Microsoft was making sure the OEMs didn't. Of course finding that evidence will be pretty hard... it'll have all been verbaly delivered in meetings on golf courses etc. where no notes were taken...

    BBC news website did a poll yesterday... the results were something like %75 of respondents had a pirated copy of a movie Me? I voted "yes"... but I use it as a reviewing service and if I like the movie I buy the DVD, otherwise I delete the downloaded file(s)... plus, the files save me from the hassle of ripping the DVD myself

    what's really nice is the first user created has sudo priviledges, all others do not by default...

    so if you've got any sense, then you create the first user as something like "admin" and give it a sensible password, then give your normal users their logins as required. If someone has to have sudo access, then you can give it to them otherwise, you switch user to "admin" and do the admin task

    ah yes... but they won't sell, because Microsoft will have a little "conversation" with each OEM telling them not to buy it...

    The customers won't get the choice.

    By the time any of this illegal behaviour gets into the courts, past all the stays and delays that Microsoft's entire city of lawyers can arrange, Microsoft will have benefitted enormously and will gladly pay any slap on the wrist as the "cost of doing business"...

    The hardware is checked each time Windows boots, to ensure that it is still on the same machine. Also, if you subsequently perform a complete format and reinstall of Windows, Microsoft's activation center will have to be contacted again because the information held on the machine itself (the number previously written to your hard drive) will have been wiped out by reformatting the hard drive. If your hardware is substantially the same, this will be done by an automated call without your needing to talk to anyone.

    what a fscking palaver... why do people put up with this shit? that's retorical question folks... the answer is: they don't know there are alternatives... Microsoft goes to a lot of trouble to make sure the sheep^H^H^H^H^Hcustomers don't know you can buy a computer without windows on it... all Joa & Jane public see in the shops and adverts in the papers are machines with windows on... and Apple is only allowed to exist so Microsoft can claim they aren't a monopoly...

    I've got my eyes on the e-reader as well as a replacement for my Tungsten e for reading books with (the Tungsten screen is nice, but it chews up the battery like no man's business and you can't read the thing in bright light as it gets washed out)... but it's from Sony... and , yes, they do have a history of stupid file format decisions, and, yes, the Japanese version was DRM'd to heck and back... with books timing out after only a few weeks, even the free demos...

    It didn't take long until a crack was available which enabled customers to create their own content from plain txt files, so I'm expecting a similar crack or hack to be available for us...

    I'm also expecting Sony to DMCA us to heck and back to try and get the crack/hack banned.

    Plus, I'm worried what their software will do to any PCs you install it on, as I'm sure you'll have to use a PC to get the books onto the device with.
