It's more along the lines that a store is allowed to deny you business if they so please. As you are on their property, if they don't want to accept your form of payment, they don't have to.
I would imagine the RIAA would take the money, but it would definitely cost the guy a few extra dollars to hire out the dump trucks required to haul the change to the RIAA's offices.... plus, just getting that many pennies would be difficult. While I imagine his bank would do it, it would probably take them a couple weeks to get all that together.
IMHO, Laptop's are worthless. I have one, and I use it once every 2 months or so when I need to do research in the library. Laptops are vastly more prone to failure, and are a pain to fix.
A friend of mine accidentally spilled water on his laptop keyboard. His laptop doesnt work anymore. On the other side, I spilled coke all over my (wireless) keyboard a few weeks later. After about 2 hours of cleaning the keyboard out, it is still churning along.
If you want to upgrade your PC, you can, with laptop's your limited almost invariably to only a ram upgrade, if that.
Battery life in laptops is still not as wonderful as it should be (unless you want to spend a fortune), nor is compatibility with alternate operating systems.
Nothing beats a rock solid desktop with a 19" monitor and a PDA for scheduling and minor note taking. Is it really that difficult to write down notes in class by hand? And besides, using only pencil and paper, you won't be nearly as tempted to play Freecell.
The problem is, that some 40 million Americans are unable to recieve any television other than over the air antenna's, the number of Americans unable to recieve broadband services is even higher. These 'choices' you present are unavailable to large groups of people. What about those that do not own a computer?
Even with cable and satellite access, choices are still limited. General Electric, Disney, Viacom, and NewsCorp already own most cable stations. The major cable news networks? CNN (AOL Time Warner), FoxNews (NewsCorp), MSNBC (Microsoft / General Electric.) Cable may offer more channels, but they are all still coming from the same sources, and unless something major breaks, I don't hear anything on a local level. This ruling will only server to make a bad situation worse.
Frankly, I don't know the legality of this agreement...
So you, as an employer, and owner of a company wrote up an NCA that you have all employee's sign, but you didn't check to see if it was actually legal? Amazing.
Lets change a few words in there:
...
Let me let you this: Black people will disagree, but White people recognize the value of what we have. We're part of something we love and we want to keep it that way.
...
If they're buying the games, the system, paying for the service, and they aren't cheating, why do you care how they get online?
Using that frame of logic, there is quite a bit of historical evidence that that prosperity and national success were not harmed by thinking the world was flat, or that the sun revolved around the earth.
Yes it does.
Why? Because once you start intertwining religion with government, where do you stop. And what religion do you pick? Ok, so 90% of the US is Christian, well, which christian sect do you select to endorse?
Church and state do not mix... look how well that worked for Great Britain for so many years (centuries.)
Once you start combining church and state, you're only 2 more steps away from persecuting those that are not like you.
Man, your car must be really really old to not be affected by an EM pulse. Although that might be to the advantage.... guy in a Model A drives through a business district and people come out in droves to look at it....
Did you read the article?
They did contact their manager. The police were only contacted later.
And honestly, do you really think they got fired for reporting child pornography? Doing so would imply that the manager condoned the professor's action in downloading child porn. Please, there are obviously other things going on here that have yet to be reported.

Sideshow Bob: By the way, I'm aware of the irony of appearing on TV in order to
decry it. So don't bother pointing that out.
Is there any public database or way for me to check and see what type of system my University is using? My card doesn't say anything but university specific information on it.
There are way too many commenting on the 'you'll destroy your teeth' factor by drinking soda. While I imagine he drinks a bit more soda than he might have before, I myself do not have a soda machine, and I drink 2 - 4 cans of soda daily. I just came back from a dentist checkup 2 weeks ago, and my teeth are fine. My dentist had no complaints (and I don't floss either.)
If you brush your teeth, and eat other healthy foods to balance such things out, you're probably fine. Now, if you're eating McDonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you've got another thing coming (besides explosive diareeha.)
Secondly, I would love to have one of these at home. Fountain soda tastes far better than canned or bottled soda. Plus, bottled soda (2 and 3 liter bottles) tend to go completely flat at my house before I get a chance to finish them. While you may not be able to tell the difference between canned, bottled, and fountain soda (or Pepsi and Coke, for that matter), a lot of people can, and have preferences for each.

Why? Sure, I could make a 40 mile scale model of the solar system, but I have to ask, why?
Last time I checked, the RIAA was not a Law Enforcement Agency.
