It's true what you say, but tablet style apps is under development for linux. 'jarnal' is a clone of Microsoft Journal, so you can all ready turn your expensive tablet pc into a notebook (as in pen-and-paper notebook) under linux.
Handwriting recognition is the big problem. It is gonna take a long time before the open source community has come up with one that's as accurate as the one in XP Tablet Edition. Sure, you've got plenty of great graffiti-style gesture recognition software, but no real working handwriting recognition apps.
Btw, I got my TC1000 for about half the price, so turning it into a small laptop and loose some of the features for a while might not be that big of a deal for me as for the ones paying full price.
"No IE 6 is planned," Sommer said in a telephone interview. "Safari is turning into a better answer for (Apple) customers."
did that really come from microsoft? when will they confess anything is a better answer for anyone than windows/explorer?
ok, some people might be happy using their products/services, but that can't be more than a handfull.
"On the Windows side, Microsoft has said that it will stop development of standalone versions of Internet Explorer, instead evolving the browser as part of future updates to the Windows OS."
with todays increasing bandwidth there's imho almost no reason to use them, you'll do good with css and tables. at least if you want to be browser compilant (read: lynx)
Example: I pay $50 for a game I want to play and then I pay $15 (minimal subscription fee for Transgmaing) just to get it running (maybe?!) in Linux.
yeah, like when you have to pay $50 for a game and $buttload for ms-windows? i believe it's cheaper to pay transgaming than to pay microsoft.
besides, by paying for winex you're helping supporting wine.
but the ideal would of course be native ports of games to linux. i will never buy a game that haven't been ported. period. (i really don't own that many games at the moment;)
slackware was the first linux distribution i ever used (exept from 15 min of redhat installation) and i'm still sticking to it. slackware is imho a perfect n00b distribution, as long as the n00b _wants_ to learn. it's not cool, it's functional. i never expected it to work out of the box, still don't;)
but, a howto like this one should definitely not be slackware specific. doesn't take much writing to include others as well.
(If you choose to run Linux, wouldn't you know how to do this?);)
...that xfree is just one implementation of the x11 protocol? in my opinion (and many others, as it seems) another implementation (or fork) just makes x11 stronger.
i'm sure beer will cease to exist if one starts another brewery;)
Yeah.. He turns from a program into some kind of virus.. kinda like m$ windows :)
Then again, Smith wasn't really an agent at the time he entered Bane. And he himself explains it as if some piece of Neo had entered him.
But I agree that we still didn't get a satisfying answer. To this and much more.

And I have to admit I'm writing this under XP.
I have a Compaq TC1000, and it's dead slow with Microsoft XP Tablet edition - can't even play my sweet DivX movies.
Tried putting linux on it, and guess what? It DOES fly! Smooth playing DivX and all.
Sadly I haven't got the pen and wifi to work in linux (yet).
