Why the hell to people quote Moore's law this way? Moore's law says FUCK ALL about chip speed. It talks about chip transistor density. We have already noticed that chip speed in the last while has slowed down. So where the hell do you get that in 18 months, Moore's law says it will cost 1/2 as much to perform the same calculations?
The foreheads of greasy McDonalds minimum wage burger flippers will be our new source of oil! They will become a) rich because we're all buying oil off their foreheads or b) incredibly poor, because they'll be stripped of all rights and put in McD's for the rest of their natural (and unnatural) lives to have all the oil possible drained from them.
Sorry, I forgot to wrap my comment in . It is generally understood that b stands for bits and B stands for bytes. mb would be millibits. MB is megabytes. The concepts of capital and small letters used in abbreviations was something everyone should have learned before grade 9 science.
Definitely a plugin. If it was built in, Mozilla would become microsoft as the "standards" to which they compare themselves would be there own standards. In essence, since microsoft likes to stand on their own two feet, IE has it's own validation called the Internet Explorer design crew. The page is validated by viewing correctly in IE, regardless of how it views elsewhere.
He's probably using the before SP1 version of VPC, which needed a fscking.bat file to install the network drivers AFTER the main installation. SP1 of VPC actually works quite nice. The pre-sp1 version sucked goat.
The problem is, instead of doing it for a reasonable cost, like 25 or 50 cents, any company will try to gorge consumers and will charge $1.99 thereby removing any chance of it lowering p2p traffic.
That was my first thought. Seriously, this was in Maximum PC about 4 years ago. It was new and somewhat innovative then, since PC mods were still on the rise, and case heat was still somewhat low enough that air flow didn't matter much.
It's true that Voodoo does have a unique way of doing it, but this really is old hat.
Think about it...how does power, water, natural gas all come into your house. Through one fat pipe. It is up to the device or fixture to conform to the developed standards.
The situation described is identical to university networks, business networks, etc, and every computer system that supports the DHCP protocol. The house has an IP address (single access point, similar to electricity...it only comes to a house once). Then all the devices connect to it using the standardized interface. To me, it sounds like a perfect use for sending data through powerlines.
In all fairness to google, that would then be GMAil as I believe it was mentioned in the article. IANAL, so it doesn't really matter what I think, but from a consumer point of view, they are very different in terms of context.
But as we all know, patent and trademark laws within a country, nevermind between countries are rather screwed up.
But they were the first to make widespread use of it, and in Canada that constitutes a trademark. You *can* register a trademark, but if you don't use it, it's kinda useless, and I'm not even sure it's valid if you don't use it. Anyone who hears the word Gmail thinks googles mail service. That is what makes a trademark a trademark.
The funny thing is that the Suprnova that shows up on the google search isn't the real one...it's the scam that has you pay and do all sorts of other stuff. I just think that's irony at it's best.
I believe the idea would be that you could plug your iPod into say, a home stereo system, and use it as an MP3 jukebox...not control it while it is tree inches from your hand anyways.
I could be wrong though...this is slashdot.
Those of us with.ca addresses didn't get screwed like the.com people. We always had 6 MB and pop and smtp access....never lost it. And we got the boost in inbox size at the same time the.com addresses did. Nice day to be Canadian folk.

64 megabits?!?! that's kinda small. And a 16 megabit card is even worse.

All those pictures and the webserver is still going strong. I think that is more impressive than the case itself.
Well, probably the reason why I use VPC...to test new software. He has a valid reason do use VPC, although he deserves no defense WHATsoever...

hook, line, and sinker.

surely you meant to use line breaks...

Eminem? *bzzt* My name is *bzzt* my name is...
neither does yours. My point was that posts like that shouldn't get modded informative.
Hmm, K-Whore...content of post could have been summed up in RTFA...

What can he say? It's a G-string...
You haven't been here for a while, have you?
