I tried GLQuake on the machine above, got about 3 frames a second. My video card is a Matrox Mystique 4MB, similar to what you used, but the drivers in Linux suck. Oh well-it runs Nethack fine, and that game satisfies enough of my addictions;) I'm beginning to surf the local garage sales, maybe someone will accidently throw a Voodoo out.
An archaic information storage and transmission device that works by depositing smears of graphite on bleached wood pulp. More recent developments in paper-based technology include improved 'write-once' update devices which use tiny rolling heads similar to mouse balls to deposit colored pigment. All these devices require an operator skilled at so-called 'handwriting' technique. These technologies are ubiquitous outside hackerdom, but nearly forgotten inside it. Most hackers had terrible handwriting to begin with, and years of keyboarding tend to have encouraged it to degrade further. Perhaps for this reason, hackers deprecate pencil-and-paper technology and often resist using it in any but the most trivial contexts.

You're 3-year-old machines may be working fine, for you, but the 90 2-year-old machines at my school were dropping like flies. Bad hard drives, shoddy power supplies, and the worst DVD drives I have ever seen.
I don't see why people are upset either. Fedora has provided its users with a wonderful feature: in addition to a bootable Linux system, Fedora will remove Windows the only way a real hacker would: by destroying it, in a way that leaves no doubt in the mind of that Windows install that it is unwanted, that it has been defeated, and the Fedora has vanquished it to the depths of/dev/null.
You're right, but why not take it a step further and have a standard icon library, with artwork that can be used by any programmer - similar in concept to the icons that Microsoft ships with Visual Studio, only better of course!
You bring up a good point, but recognize that Gnome is working on that with their interface policies. Free software tends to take a "make it work first, then make it look good" approach. What the community could really use is a few good artists that volunteer to make some of the ugly projects look good.
One of my beefs is that some applications ship with ugly "basic" interfaces and expect users to look for skins to make it look better. In my mind, it should look good out of the box, and the skins should just make it look better.
I'm not giving credence to the wild claims that the capacitors in a CRT device hold their charge for months, or that you have to let a CRT sit for 72 hours before taking the cover off (you can always discharge the capacitors). But they are dangerous and their is no question that they are lethal, particularly if you hooked them up to a home-made taser.
Also realize that any electrical current-even a small one-can be lethal if it passes through the human heart.

The majority of spam-producing, bulk-emailing machines is from the US. The majority of Assho^H^H^H spam originators are in Russia and China, although the USA certainly has a large share. To sum it up: America is full of idiots who can't secure their computers properly, and Russia/China are full of spammers who take advantage of that fact.
Well, yes. Firefox in it's default form is ugly. Just like IE. But why don't you look at the themes?
In the end, one of the reasons I switched was because I could make it look better. Phoenity Modern is my theme of choice, it fits into the default stylings of both Windows XP and my chosen Fluxbox theme, and it really does look better than the default IE interface, IMHO.
The way I see it, RedHat is looking out for the welfare of their customers by including this wonderful new feature. After all, you can't uninstall evil, you have to destroy it!
I had grub hammer a Gentoo install before. Spend 2-3 days compiling and then have the bootloader screw it up. Needless to say I was not happy about that. I now refuse to use anything other than LILO;)
But as to your problem, try using a recovery CD and either fixing grub or installing LILO. Slackware CD 1, Gentoo CD 1, Knoppix, and ilk all do their job very well.
What about General Protection Fault?
Gentoo!
Compile while you fight...

I have a Pentium 166 MMX and 64MB of RAM running Slackware 9.1. Hey, it works, even if it can't play Quake very well.
The Linux community won't really suffer until SCO: Nemesis comes out!

Ping Pong! I can play Ping Pong!

Fedora, I salute you.

Cue replies from Gimp-bashers in 3, 2, 1....
The filter/power supply capacitors contain a lot of juice.
I felt compelled to do some Googling. Here are some results:
"Some of the large filter capacitors commonly found in line operated equipment store a potentially lethal charge."
"If any significant voltage is found after powering off some capacitors (like the high voltage of the CRT in a TV or video monitor), it will retain a dangerous or at least painful charge for days or longer!)"
"Be very careful, since these voltages are dangerous."
I'm not giving credence to the wild claims that the capacitors in a CRT device hold their charge for months, or that you have to let a CRT sit for 72 hours before taking the cover off (you can always discharge the capacitors). Now that was great. You owe me a keyboard.

Pah. I am a proud user of Mozilla ÜberCthulhu.
God I love that plugin.

Obviously another calculation done on an early Pentium.
