i don't get this at all... what is modern? what is crippled? maybe the first quote was by a young person who has only known the internet... still, it's too bad that someone would really feel that way. as for me, I don't need a network connection... so... heaven exists, hell exists, people exist... all for no good reason whatsoever? what you *think* about hell won't really matter will it if you happen to be wrong. you place too much esteem on your limited intellect. you are betting your current state of comfort on the idea that painful punishment that lasts long time won't happen to you. why not? anybody have a safety certificate that extends beyond the grave? the Koran is the uncreated Speech of the Creator of the heavens and earth. You can prefer "science" over "religion" if you want but I don't recommend it. That ambiguous route is polluted anyway. Experts can pinpoint fallacious arguments and sink the boat of misguidance. The challenge is to find the person with the informational cure. "Science" is required and "Religion" is up to you. However, since you will be alone in your grave I hope you have had a solid reason for the daily decisions you have made. Did you Create yourself or are you made from nothing? Have concern for The One who you will eventually return to.

We all have to learn how to say no. Not only "no" but emphatically NO... (as in F*** THAT!) It is something I learned in college. I had to take the scenic route to graduation but it is well worth it. It looks like the rest of what I have to say is the common statement that the over 35 population on /. has already said so I will sit back until I have something unique and valuable to point out.

My position is that the phrase "you suck" is still a fighting insult!!! I may be alone in the woods on that one however, it is clear as day to me, and I wouldn't let that slide if someone were to say that to me in person. This is a generally foul phrase and it should not be taught to foreigners in ESL classes. Perhaps, it is a complaint regarding a lack of power. I don't know. I find it hard to imagine that competent, capable people would walk around complaining about how things "suck". It is a construct of the the misguided youth. One of the many...

yep.. I have to disagree. I'm trying to make this point with as few words as possible. Old hardware may be used as a teaching tool. I worked at a community center during my last semester of college and used the community center to teach linux. Yes, the latest flash apps didn't work. Yes, the kids complained. And yes, they had to get over it (haha, in a good way). The teacher has to have the skill to make the opportunity beneficial.

You don't have to be a great sys admin to teach kids with what ever is available, high tech or low tech.

Are you saying that old hardware shouldn't be donated to schools because flash-based sites are the only teaching tools that you're interested in? That is too bad. If that is the case, maybe old hardware can be donated to some other organization that knows how to use them to teach kids useful skills.

I have plenty of old PC's. The value in them exists primarily because of the time that I have invested in them. Non-transferable value? I don't know. In the right hands, they definitely have value.

In summary, I would have to say donate your old hardware to the right organization and it will go farther and be more beneficial.
