  1. Just in case you're confused on DHS Official Suggests REAL ID Mission Creep · · Score: 1

For everyone who is wondering why the federal government should not do this, please read the story that preceeds this one regarding a state attempting to legislate pi.

I wonder though if this sort of technology could allow your wireless internet card to double as a wireless tv card. The same modem would take the cable data and broadcast the entire band and your computer would just sort out the data on it's end.

TFA mentions "mirror neurons" at one point. I guess that's why people who really enjoy boxing will find themselves ducking and dodging along with a match, and why some people feel so uncomfortable watching someone else drive a car.

I wonder what causes some people who are new to video gaming to try to move their physical body while attempting to navigate on the screen with a controller....

  6. Re:It's not that each person is evil on Telco Immunity Goes To Full Debate · · Score: 1

It is fair to say that my experience of the world does not provide much support for this notion. It sounds to me like you are thinking of the illusion of power. The ability to change the environment around you based entirely on people's misconception that you are actually in control works only so long as people don't realize the truth. In fact power works this way regardless, but when the time comes that your actual power vs percieved power comes into question, if the respect is not there, the power will most likely not last long.

  7. It's not that each person is evil on Telco Immunity Goes To Full Debate · · Score: 4, Insightful

Just remember, when you are reading about the fall of the American constitution that it's not because any person involved is inherently bad. Quite the opposite. Most of them are good. They love America generally speaking and want the best for their people. They have to. Power only works when you respect the people you control. When you approach each person involved in this situation and ask them just what the fuck are they thinking, they would probably tell you, and honestly at that, that they are doing the best they can for the people they represent.

I'm not saying stupidity is an excuse. I'm just saying that the supposed "inherent evil" that people want to believe politicians all possess isn't the problem. The problem is political ignorance and an extreme distance from reality that accompanies the higher eschelons of power.

This is also, I would imagine, why the fore-fathers imagined a country run by the stronger states, not controlled by a stronger federal government. Keep the power closer to the people, at lower levels, and the reality is much harder to miss.

The article doesn't just discuss the compression rates, but actually talks about everything in the entire industry that flattens sound. It's an interesting concept that I am sure has been discussed for decades, however I've never personally connected these dots before so it was nice to read.

The first thing I think of though is not how can we improve the delivery medium, but rather why are equalizers not considered at all? Especially in digital media where the EQ can be activated from the song's information itself! Use the EQ to bring out the artificial loudness, but leave the details there for the people who want to disable the EQ and just listen to the original piece.

But of course this does not fix the problem they discussed with the band they mentioned had fewer pauses in their songs. That's just an unfortunate choice on the part of the producers, and has actually opened my eyes a bit as to the lack of control an artist has on their own music.

What really amazes me is how smoothly the traffic on German roads flows. I've been in traffic jams that lasted for miles, yet everyone managed to stay at around 45 mph the whole time. In fact the only time I ever really see stopped traffic is when an accident has blocked the entire road system, there is construction, or a roadway merges 3 lanes into two or something.

Of course the other funny thing is that it was the Americans that removed the speed limits on the autobahn oh so many years ago, yet they enforce such strict speed limits on the stateside highways.
