  1. They already are using encryption on Operation Fastlink Cracks Down on Warez · · Score: 1

These guys arent stupid, they have been and are using encryption already. How the feds get them is everyone wants better!! Someone that they dont know either offers them some elite space with a elite link to do there stuff on, or starts up a FTP site with amazing speed and space and they are hooked. So all the feds do is track that site that they have and voilla they have everyone. BTW most people use Bounces but still this doesn't stop them, and encrypted FTP sessions have been going on for years now. Most of these groups do not profit for the relase and do purchase the software and reccomend that if you like it that you do. I dont think that many people do but It doesn't stop some of us from doing so. Although I really think it is a waste of time/money worrying about this sort of stuff when you have bin ladens running around that can do real physical damage and harm to people.

I figure why have one isp go down, so I get both, and since telus my dsl provider really messed up my move I get a deal from them for my service. 2.5Mbit/.640Mbit for $34.99/month with totally unlimited bandwith, no phone calls no nothing... usually they want $54.99 for it but they really screwed up my move and this is what they offered me. Cable on the other hand is 34.99 a month aswell for about 3-5 mbit downstream and .512 up. Sometimes has real bad bandwith issues, they bitch about bandwith (more than 6gb upstream in a month and they are bitching) but if you dont exceed the upstream they will let you do whatever. I just laff at most USA dsl packages, they are such a ripoff with such little bandwith... considering 5 years ago we got limited area DSL in our city at 4mbit/.640 for $75 CAD a month (back then equiv to about 45 usd) unlimited ips, and unlimited bandwith. Come to canada, live in a igloo and drink our higher percentage beer!

I have both shaw and telus, and shaw is one of those companys advertising *UNLIMITED* service and limiting my bandwith, ya ya I know the ins and outs of UNLIMITED but shit they shouldn't be able to use it unless it really is. One thing about shaw is they are fast at fixing things, it takes telus months to fix anything, if it gets fixed at all, and literally days on the phone if you want anything fixed! No wonder why someone shot bullets at there windows head office in vancouver.

I wrote the first comment, So you are saying you should just leave this 'hole' in the systems rather than applying the patch in leu of a problem that might happen? are you crazy? Seeing the hole this patches which is basically all RPC stuff it would be in your best interests to do it anyways, or do you let the loaded gun get into the hands of children? If you run microsoft software and want to avoid rebooting you have chosen the wrong operating system, they do make patch management simple, it is built into all there operating systems, ie windows update. You are expecting way to much from a microsoft based operating system, reboots are inevitable. And what they take maybe 2 minutes max on a fast system, half the speed is wasted by the idiots you got using them, which in your great company they dont have obviously.. one can assume that they did have a firewall, so some idiot perhaps from IT brought his laptop to his home connection, then decided to hook it up at work... Probably the same idiot that never patched his own laptop that he does work for.. who knows, but if you are going to go microsoft you have to live microsoft and take what comes with it.

  16. Canada Who??? on Power Grid Insecurities Examined · · Score: 3, Interesting

I am sick of control, this might not be the right place to talk out about canada's problems in general but lets say the US already has control of our power, as proven with the california state vs bc hydro, they also control our lumber industry (softwood trade agreement), our wheat industry, our cattle industry (thanks to mad cow), we might aswell give it up or get invaded at this point. No one cares about us and we are so small that we get bullied into everything anyways. I say divert all the rivers leading into the states into the lower half of Alberta and Saskachewan (to those not familiar with canada its the 2nd and 3rd most western provinces) cut the power lines (thus fixing the grid problem), stop all exports and imports to the states, and give them the middle finger.
