  1. Re:U2 sucks now anyways... on U2 Threatens to Release Album Early on iTunes · · Score: 1

I'd have to agree. As far as I'm concerned, Achtung Baby is one of the greatest albums ever; up there with Pet Sounds and Sgt Pepper. The album is so perfectly cohesive - each song a gem in it's own right yet so fitting to the rest of the material. I'm guessing Brian Eno's production had something to do with that. Zooropa was decent, Pop was interesting and underrated. But ATYCLB -- BORING.

  3. Mitnick is a joke. on Mitnick Speaks About Hacking · · Score: 1

I'm usually not one to bitch and whine about the misuse of the term 'hacker', but using the same term to describe people doing innovative things with computers and then calling Mitnick one is just absurd. This guy had to beg lusers on irc to teach him basic unix commands -- and how to run rootkits. Give me a break. The guy doesn't even know a single programming language inside and out.

Basically he's a good liar. That's all. Shall we begin calling Bill Clinton a hacker?

    What?

My (home) iptables based firewall only allows incoming traffic on port 80, and only to machine inside the network. The other poor Windows machines are not receiving 'a whole hell of a lot of traffic.'

It may be true that some Windows based firewall software is ineffective but I really have no idea having not used any.

At this point it really depends what I'm using the machine for. Is it a firewall/router? Then probably nmap, snort or some other security utils.
If it's my desktop probably gnome2, python, gcc, gdb, valgrind, etc.

Probably the most interesting thing about Brazil is that it is one of the most resource rich countries in the world, right up there with various African countries.

The reasons for the horrific poverty in both cases can be traced to west european and north american empires consistently preventing, from force or clandestine methods, the countries from becoming self sufficient and independent of the Western version of capitalism/plundering.
