I learned c++ from the 1st edition of this book; I enjoyed it quite a bit. Being such a shitty language, C++ is difficult to write a good book on and impossible to write a concise book about, but I've found C++ primer plus did a better job than any other tutorial style c++ book. It's a great lead in to stroustrup's books, stl tutorial and reference and the effective c++ series.
Well, I can't agree that C is a wonderful language. I think you've been a bit brain damaged (and or washed). But this is definitely one of the greatest tech books ever written, and certainly the most entertaining I've read.
If you need to really know C pick this up along with a draft of the standard.
Do you think an adult who has never learned any language could pick up a first language in the same time as an infant? I think that's the relevant question here.
I don't understand. How does introducing an all powerful being whose existence could not be proved by definition make this more plausible than just evolution?
The problem that some people have is that it isn't just buggy, but it may not be a step in the right direction.

Do you really want people who are completely disinterested in politics and world events to vote?
Mandatory voting is a terrible idea. The fact is there are people who simply don't care, and if you force them to vote they will not take the initiative to educate themselves about the candidates and issues.
Calling Graham a 'pseudo-programmer' is absolutely insane. He has written what many consider to be the best advanced common lisp text out there -- On Lisp.
As far as I'm concerned it is one of the most enlightening programming books written ever.
I've seen a lot of comments so far commenting on how 3d desktops are useless; I agreed until I looked at the screenshots and saw what this system is capable of.. Really, check them out; this is SO much more than Sun's Looking Glass -- it's much more than just rotating and translating windows around (which is basically useless).
I could see this being used for grassroots political shows. With all this talk about bloggers toppling the 'elite media' (Rathergate) I could certainly see small groups of politically motivated people producing amateur news shows and seeding them daily and using some sort of subscription service that would automate the downloading of episodes once they are available.
If your only goal is to recover the data and then install some other OS why not just use one of the many linux live cds that support mounting fat32 and use it to back up the data? Seems a lot simpler than putzing with win95 for 10.5 hours just to grab some data.
'On the server side, UnixWare Enterprise edition is more expensive for 150 users than either Windows 2003 Server Datacenter Edition, any of the Enterprise Linux distributions, or Solaris, with fewer available applications, fewer drivers for recent HBAs and other new hardware, and no currently available 64-bit version for either Opteron or Itanium processors.'
So this review is subjective because he pointed out how the expense compares to other operating systems? Uhhh.. ok.
Eh, that's not really the case.. More than anything it's that NVIDIA's drivers are better optimized for OpenGL than ATI's. ATI has already responded saying that they are working on drivers with better OpenGL performance.
Obviously this is the most convuluted idiotic attempt at security through obscurity. The fact that this recieves ANY/. coverage whatsoever is proof of exactly how cluelesss the/. editorial staff is. I mean c'mon, these guys use perl!
'People complained about Donkey Kong back in the day. A game where you try to hurt an ape?'
Really? Got anything to back this up?
"And yes, I did try Linux, but I always wound up at the same point after installing it: "Ok, now what?" and never having an answer to that question."
And everytime I sat down at a Mac I looked at the screen and said 'Ok, now what?'
Uh, use it. duh.

Good work.

If you had bothered to RTFA you would have noticed that rotation preview is in 2.2.w -rotate.png

Each example you cited is a work of art.
How is this off-topic? The book is $15 cheaper at amazon!
What's wrong with helping out a poor geek?

NBK seems to be the most polarizing movie in the world -- you either love it or you hate it. In my opinion those who hate it simply don't get it.
My new acronym for Learn To Use The Fucking Tags
I suppose you're referring to this:

Underimpressed?
I think you may be misunderestimating the game from this video clip.
Hooray, a terrible closed format!
And still no ogg vorbis.
Thanks but no thanks Apple, I'll stick with my iRiver.
