A modern package management system has automatic dependency resolution and management.

Did you read the original post? Just in case here you go.

If you want to talk software repository based install, you need to compare dpkg to RPM, and apt-get to YUM

dpkg does not have dependency resolution either, take apt-get away from debian and you have a package system that is just as, if not more worthless than RPM. I agree with anyone who says that apt-get is superior to yum but if your going to say one thing is better than the other than at least compare to things of the same genre.

I loved HyperCard, my Jr High (and probably most Public Schools) only had Macs and apple IIe's and so naturally we were taught Apple BASIC and Hypercard however, none of the teachers knew how to use any of the scripting capabilities of HyperCard and would usually end up pulling the very few kids that were more curious out of class when another period had a problem with it. Today I would still teach kids BASIC to start out on, personally I shudder when I see an old office program still written in BASIC but it is in my opinion still one of the best languages to start out on. Of course the last time I touched the stuff you still had to number your lines too so....

A fellow classmate of mine had a 486sx when I was in College and I had an extra 486dx that I said I'd give to him. The day after I gave him the chip he brought back his computer saying "after I installed the new chip it just wouldn't work". I opened the box, tried to pull the chip but it seemed like it didn't want to come out so I carefully pryed the chip off the ZIF socket. Sure enough he had managed to insert the chip back into the socket the wrong way and the affect was the chip melting the plastic of the ZIF socket around it. The sad thing was... he was a fellow classmate in basic hardware installation. He works in sales now.
