If you have complaints about your call quality or reception, take it up with your service provider. It might be they don't have good coverage in your area or it could be a problem with your phone.
However, bitching about new services phone companies offer has nothing to do with that problem. Believe it or not, everyone is not like you. Some people want their phone to do more than just make calls because it would be convenient for them. Don't come and tell me I'm not allowed to watch TV or play games on my phone because you can't get good reception.
If you think cell phones are a "broken product", stop being a baby and go and fix it. Try a new phone, then try a new service. If you live in a place that NO cell phone company can provide service to, well then you're in the boondocks and should thank god you have electricity.
AFAIK it was because breeder reactors produce plutonium. He was concerned that if this technology really took off, all this plutonium for fuel would just lead to the spread of nuclear weapons. By banning fuel reprocessing, the US was supposed to be setting an example to stop nuclear proliferation.
The reactors at Chernobyl are not the same design of any reactors built in the US. So there's no point in bringing it up unless you just want to scare people.
And the fears over Three Mile Island are just plain ignorance. It was a minor incident that didn't hurt anyone. Don't believe me? Too bad. The Pennsylvania court system does. After years of litigation, the courts ruled there isn't enough evidence anyone was harmed by the accident to support even going to trial.
My favorite quote is, "The court has searched the record for any and all evidence which construed in a light most favorable to Plaintiffs creates a genuine issue of material fact warranting submission of their claims to a jury. This effort has been in vain."

I share your enthusiasm for pebble bed nuclear tech, but I would think the reason this southern power company isn't planning on using it is because it's not a proven technology. Given how nuclear energy is such a sensitive issue, they probably want to stick with proven designs and concepts. Yeah it's not innovative but it's safer for them. I mean how many reactors have actually been built using the pebble bed concept? AFAIK, just one test reactor in South Africa.
If I become homeless, it's because I deserve it. It is my fault, and only my fault, that I let my skill set degrade and I became unemployable. If I was truly desperate for money, I could take some menial job in fast food or cleaning. They don't pay much, but they pay. I could rent a room with my lousy pay instead of choosing to be homeless.
No it's not a good life, but I think you have forgotten you don't have a right to a good life. If someone who is "unemployed, on the verge of homelessness, and hungry" decides to hold on to their comfy life by running up a credit card debt, that's their choice. They must live with that consequence, not whine about how unfair it is for their creditor to expect to be paid back.
They do have those sorts of phones. The Nokia 3120 comes to mind. The only fancy thing about it is bluetooth, and I bet if I looked harder I could find something even more stripped down.
Basic phones are out there, but they don't make news like cramming more features into a high end phone. What would be the point of a press release that says, "Nokia announces a new cell phone that can make phone calls."
Good god, have some personal responsibility. Citibank never put a gun to your head and ordered you to charge $1000 you can't pay back.
The responsibility for a credit card company is to provide you with a line of credit. They are not financial advisors. It is no one's fault but your own if you got into so much debt you can't pay it off.
SprintPCS is a CDMA company. They have a roaming agreement with Verizon and I remember awhile ago they had a $5 option for no roaming charges. Not sure if that's still around though.
I think you're confusing entreprenourship with desperation. The Russian space agency isn't putting millionaire tourists in space because they want to. They do it because they need the money. The Russian space agency (who's name I forget) is made up of real scientists who want to be doing serious science, not monitoring joyrides.
Yes, coal plants are large but a wind farm is many times larger. A coal power plant does not take up hundreds of square miles like a comparable wind farm would.
I would expect the majority of people find windmills ugly anyway. That's the reason the proposed wind farm for Cape Cod was killed (or maybe it's still being litigated, I dunno. I lost track of that story). Plus aren't they very noisy?
Well it's not entirely true you'll have total control of your own energy. You'll still need to mine uranium for nuclear fuel. Uranium mines aren't present in every country on earth.

I understand your point - users should avoid shady sources. However, I think your average user doesn't understand how they could get their system infected with spyware, and only has a limited understanding of what spyware is in the first place. They will believe "Critical Windows Media Player Update" is real because they don't know the reasons to be suspicious.
The legal principle of common carriage is used to insure that "no customer seeking service upon reasonable demand, willing and able to pay the established price, however set, would be denied lawful use of the service or would otherwise be discriminated against."

So in other words, flying is a right as long as you don't make unreasonable demands. So is not showing ID a reasonable demand? I think so, but I guess the courts will have to decide.
It leaves us with a competitive economy, instead of an ossified socialist state. See if a business goes too far in treating its workers as a commodity, they won't be able to attract top talent and the company will suffer as a result. But if you go to the other extreme and companies hold on to their employees forever, the company's payroll eventually becomes bloated with workers that aren't needed anymore. Just because a company is profitable doesn't mean everything is 100% perfect. EA feels these 60 workers aren't needed. If they're wrong, they will pay for it later. End of story.
This doesn't change society they way you describe it. These 60 people aren't broken and useless. They'll go and find new jobs. Maybe in the same industry or a different one. That's no tragedy. It's a good thing because then workers know they need to keep improving their skills. I don't expect to work in the same job from college to grave and neither should you.
Everytime a person applies for a credit card you want banks to send out someone to interview their friends and neighbors? That's so impractical.
Besides, those references would be useless. They wouldn't be honest because what person is going to badmouth their friend to a bank? I have a friend who's bad with money. If a bank called me or visited me like with your idea, I certainly wouldn't tell them they shouldn't extend my friend a line of credit. Would you do that to one of your friends?
People don't like credit ratings because they feel belittled by being reduced to a few numbers, but it's that simplicity that makes granting credit quick, efficient and fair. If credit-worthiness were based on references, you would then have to worry about bogus/lying references, it would slow down the process and you would have to some how deal with any biases from your own loan staff. What if the bank employs a racist? How are you sure their analysis of their interviews are fair and not biased from on their prejudice?
Relying on a credit score solves these problems. The bank can always go back to a solid number for a reason instead of someone's gut feeling.
I say let the farms sink or swim. Cut all farming subsidies. Which ever farms can continue to profit, good for them. Let the rest go out of business. We don't need them. We can import plenty of food from third world countries and no that's not going to triple the cost. The price of food is higher now than it would be exactly because of the expensive American farmer. The US should just drop trade restrictions on farm products. If you still wanna farm cuz your family did that for umpteen generations, sell your land, move to Ghana and live like a king on your US dollars. Otherwise, go back to school and retrain for a new line of work. Hey, by saving money on farm subsidies, the gov't could afford to run more job training programs.
Rural areas consume more in taxes than they put in. It's just indirect. Instead of getting a check from the "Dept. of Welfare", they get subsidies, pork barrel projects and ungodly sums spent on a bloated military.

You do realize you are not required to use your phone's data services?

But anyway the other posters are right. Facts have no place in organized religion, so this news doesn't make any difference to any church.
