Is it really all that shitty? The US version gets a 2-core processor but 2 GB of RAM. The international version gets a 4-core processor with only 1 GB of RAM. How many apps will really utilize those 4 cores? Frankly, I suspect having more RAM will end up being more beneficial in real world usage.

This is exactly what I was thinking about doing for my mom! I can't stand Apple, but I'm considering putting my hatred aside and getting her an iPad just because it's probably going to be the simplest tablet for her to use. I often worry about how she passes the day with daytime TV and some local newspapers. It would be nice to get her in touch with old friends. Get her a few simple game apps, or some more news sources for her to read. Maybe get her addicted to Farmville like my aunt...

Why bother building a fighting machine? If you're just going to turn warfare into a little game, just have some humans play an existing game to solve your problem. Have the 2 nations each pick a soldier for a boxing match or even just a game of poker. It's all the same. You're just trying to take the killing and destruction out of warfare.

The problem is that your system relies on trust. How can I trust that my enemy is only going to confine this combat to the "fighting machine arena" or poker table, or whatever? You can't. Your enemy may just backstab you, and while you're only ready for your sanitized combat, they lunch a real attack on your cities. So you need to prepare for that and spend billions on a conventional army anyway.

I guess that must be an Australian thing because here in the US everyone and their mother wants a Razr. Motorola in general, not just the Razr, is popular. I would guess that's because most Americans want clamshell phones and that's pretty much all of Moto's product line. That might change now that Nokia is starting to produce clamshells though.

I've only used a Motorola phone once (the A630) and I would actually get pissed off at the UI. I dropped that phone in a few months when I couldn't stand it anymore and switched to a Nokia 6230. It's just so natural to use. I really don't get why they aren't more popular here.

Don't blame the cold war nuclear build up on the space race. The US and Soviets would have researched missles anyway. The Soviets absolutely had to develop missles because they didn't have any bomber bases near the US mainland. Then the US would have to at least match any Soviet missle advance. So we would have had The Missle Race instead. Plus, the US had a strong desire for spy satellites since they had such a hard time getting spies into the USSR. The US would have wanted their own missles capable of putting satellites into orbit just for that.

Getting to the moon was strictly about beating the other guy there. Without the desire to beat the other guy, why would either government spend the money on it? They could have built more shiny, nuclear-tipped ICBMs with that money. Without the Space Race, the US moon landing probably never would have happened because there would have been no incentive to do it.

Just because a terraformed Mars may require maintainance, doesn't mean it's not worth it. After all, it's providing a new place to fit billions more people. We need to know how expensive is that maintainance going to be and how much effort will be needed? I have no idea what the answers are unfortunately, but later generations might and then decide it is worth the trouble.
