Here's what he had up a year ago. Looks like manuals and ROMs for arcade and pinball games (since there were some questions about which it was).
How long do you plan on being gone? It only takes about 5 seconds to smash a window and grab a laptop. I can't understand how anyone would leave something like a laptop in the car alone for even a minute.
I'm not saying they deserve to get their shit stolen, but the "I was only gone for a minute" excuse has achieved cliche status for a reason.
You have got to be kidding me! Can we please assume that the majority of/. users are capable of following this case all by themselves? This is getting really tired.
Yeah, I'm not sure about the hands down thing. I use Trillian and it does everything I need. The only Miranda plugins I see that I'd use are ICQ, AIM, MSN gateways. Trillian does that our of the box. So the score from my perspective alone is:
Trillian: 3
Miranda: 3
So since trillian is already on my computer and I've found it VERY reliable, I'll probably stick with that. I'll still try out Miranda because it sounds like there are some fans here.
Waiting? WTF is waiting? I downloaded the pirated versions of both movies, bought the first edition and special edition DVDs of FOTR and will most likely buy the EE box set when it comes out.
And I'm not even a fanboy. No really, I'm not. I mean, I've never even read the Simarillion (or even care if I spelled it right), and I saw neither movie in the theater within the first month of release.
I'll be willing to bet that the losers like me make up nicely for the losses from folks who have more self control.
I agree with you more than you can know. Just one point to mention:
CMS is hard when, after 5 years, your users don't understand that "save the file to servername sharename" means "file > save as > \\servername\sharename\filename.ext"
After 5 years of correcting users, I would probably have changed the instructions users need to follow to say "file > save as > \\servername\sharename\filename.ext." Or maybe map a drive (as part of a standard image) and just tell them what drive letter to save to. I understand that in a huge implimentation this ability may not exist. Just a thought.
I've got that. It's really more of a coffee table book than a novelization. And, in that case, it is better than the film. I know that Bakshi film was cutting edge for it's day, but I saw it again a little while back and was bored.
DNS is fine. The servers holding the registry of name ownership are what the article claimings fell over. The article doesn't mention anything about DNS problems or people being unable to browse to.org sites. I'm certainly not saying the report is true, but if what they say happened did indeed happen, DNS would not necessarily be affected.
The poster said it was an "I told you so" for Verisign. Meaning that Verisign can now say "I told you so" to the folks they gave up.org regs to. The article covers this.
DNS is one thing. The records of who owns them is different. If that were to die irretrievably, there would be no way of knowing who owned what, and who could re-register it.
I liked it ok for a while. Then I got a wireless network set up. Next time I checked WU, there was a new WEP security update. Neat-o!!! Download and install in no time flat! Easy as pie.
Ok. let's see. These hotfix ID numbers in my Add/Remove Programs list mean nothing to me. I could probably look them up online if my computer could even see the network anymore but that fucking hotfix killed my network card. OK, I guess...well I'll just pick a hotfix at random to uninstall.
[Ominous warning regarding the potential failure of another hotfix]
Shit, what should I do? I'll remove it anyway. What's the worse thing that can happen. I need to scrub this machine anyway. I think I've got a virus (thanks Outlook) and nothing works to clean it.
Lucky me, I picked the right one. OK. Note to self. Don't download any hotfixes pertaining to networking. Cool. Now where did I put those RedHat 9 ISOs I downloaded last week?
I tried to get Red Carpet to work on my XP box for, like, days. It never ever worked. Same with Red Hat Network. I kept trying and trying and trying. I've shed enough tears.
There is no difference in their minds, and they are already doing this. Coffeshops, Clubs, Live Bands. All liable for performing copyrighted songs without permission for profit
Oddly, I think that is one of the things that keep people away from open source. They have no idea what needs to be done to bring OSS into their system. They know it can be difficult and they will probably need to find consultants to do it (and if they happen upon/. thy may be scared of who they will find out there). Closed source, on the other hand is easy: you can't do it, so why bother. Doesn't get much easier than that;)
Let's see... Nuclear Bomb: Death and destruction. Potential to end all (human) life on the planet.
Spam: Well, there's really nothing that would make this a valid comparison, is there? I'm thinking there is a bit more motivation world-wide to ban nuclear testing than spam. BTW nuclear weapon testing was still being done in several countries last time I checked.

Yeah, I was being kind of a wiseass about searching text for a phoneme. A phoneme carries no meaning, as it is a simple sound. Now on the other hand, a particular string of phonemes...
Oh well, never mind me.

What phoneme do you suggest looking for to indicate high level military commanders?
See, that's just exactly why I'm probably not going to finish the Ecco book. I understand that his lengthy digressions are what many people love about him, but I get the sense that writing is a bit self-congratulatory for him. I, like AC enjoy reading books that really cut to it.

Only an AC poster would suggest that you should buy hardware at a Walmart. I mean, seriously now...get real!
On the conference call they are still saying that individual Linux users should consult legal counsel.
Just say you're a private stockholder, give them your phone number, and you're in.
They just moved it to a different service:

I'm on it right now, conference starts in 'bout 10 minutes.
And of course...
(Through eyes full of tears and voice edged with panic)

I'm confused. Isn't that exactly what the article said? I guess I'm just missing the "slightly different" part.
But you say you work at a video game store? Is there something wrong with this picture?
