  1. He's just a developer on Torvalds Has Harsh Words For FreeBSD Devs · · Score: 3, Insightful

Here we go again, imposing "role model" status. Linus is just a guy. Sometimes he gets his buttons pushed, sometimes he's doing the pushing. BFD. Maybe you'd be a little pissy too if Slashdot posted a story every time you did or said something. Linus Prefers Gas-X, Says Bean-o Is For Douchebags. Who cares? (BTW, Linus didn't really say that, I made it up. Don't wanna get the Bean-o people on his case too.)

As far as this whole VM thing goes, time and testing will tell the true story. Meanwhile, maybe we could try NOT deifying Linus (any more)?

WMDs are easier to hide than camps. Doesn't mean they were never there. For that matter, we found the camps, and some people still don't believe it.

Depends on what you mean by "performance penalty." I accidentally ran a system without swap for a while (forgot to create it in fstab). Everything ran pretty well, but if I tried to launch too many programs and there wasn't enough RAM to go around, something would die, or just not launch. Swapping is good to have around as a just-in-case solution, IMO.

Fedora has high standards for stability and functionality.

    So did the Titanic.

I still remember when they said they would take the best elements from Fedora and put them into the next RHEL. I left the RedHat family after they dropped support for RH9, and now they want me to be a beta tester for RHEL? Thanks, but no. I'll stick with a distro that I use, not one that uses me (what is this, Soviet Russia?).

    Q: Why does spyware exist?

A: Because Windows, by default (not talking about all you "you-can-make-windows-secure" types), is wide open to attack. That may sound a little flame-ish, but look back at all the stories about how Windows can get owned within 10 minutes before you mod me into nothing.

Having said all that, if MS can put anti-malware software out, I hope it's because Windows has improved to the point where it's not needed. If so, I will more than welcome the change. It's kind of like folks being upset when the car put put the horse and buggy. Things change, obsolescence happens. Life goes on.

How do you know what MS is doing in there? I don't respect programs either--but I do respect developers and the open development process.
