Oh please. There is still no activation or serial for Mac OS. Never has been. So if that was your hang up, then why would you continue to use M$'s OS? Because you like copy protection in their OS?
And remember, this is only for the hardware. It keeps their business as they are a hardware company that uses it's OS to lure people. It's not OS copy protection. I know this was a troll post, but I had to respond...
Sony. Blu-Ray. Sony has an absolutely huge customer base of eclectronic equipment and artists (music, and more importantly in this case, video). Who wins and why doesn't Microsoft want to adopt the better of the two?
"Brands are notorious "and" can lose value very quickly so suggesting you can rely on the brand to keep a company going for 10 years is not credible."
That's not it. Apple has the best brand loyalty second to only one other company in the world. Take a guess... it's Harley Davidson. You see, that loyalty does not "notoriously lose value very quickly".
Mac and iPod are not two "(too?) lines of business". They are both extremely well designed, easy to use, offer full support from the hardware to the software, offer total solutions (from the iTunes Music Store to the iPod, from OS X to the PowerMac), etc...
No, they are not different. In fact, they couldn't be more the same. It's Apple.
And for the billionth time. #1. Apple is a hardware company. #2. People buy that hardware for OS X #3. Apple's success is largely due to the fact that Apple (Steve?) has complete and utter control of everything, and supports, designs, and markets them as such. From iPhoto to the iMac case design. It just works and that's why. Apple will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, change that. Why? Because that's why Apple is Apple. That's why they have such huge brand loyalty. That's why this poster feels it's the best all-around solution on the planet. They aren't going to change that, and no one should want them to.
Damn I hate these stories. I swear they are spurred by jealousy and misunderstanding all rolled into one. If you aren't going to use a Mac because you can't afford it, fine! No one is going to accuse you of not being able pay for quality design (hardware and software). But don't sit there and make things up to make yourself feel better. It's unbecoming.
Horrible logic. By that logic, the world was created just a second ago, and God planted all of our memories, of our gained knowledge, and all of the dinosaur bones (just for laughs, he's a lonely guy).
Now, go disprove this.
I'm sorry, but that argument has never made sense, and it doesn't now. If we go around simply believing in things just because we haven't DISproved them, then, I have some real estated in Florida that you would just love. Trust me...
The real fear (which is counter to freedom, I might add), is wondering when the definition of what you are "doing wrong" shifts. With all of these provisions now in place, how easy would it be to deem healthy dissent as a a terrorist activity? Proof of this has already been seen. When will attacks on policy become an attack against America, and our "national interests", whatever they may be?
Freedom is largely a state of mind. While it can be a dangerous one in much of the world, I don't like seeing our country moving in that direction. I would rather live free under threat than safe under fear of oppression. Besides, if the terrorists hate freedom, then why haven't the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, etc..., countries that are arguably more free than the U.S., not been turned into parking lots by droves of suicide bombers? No, it's our policy and actions, and I don't want to be deemed unpatriotic at best, and a terrorist under prosecution at worst for "attacking" those policies, just as it's supposed to happen in a true, working democracy.
That is my fear, the Patriot Act doesn't help, and it doesn't "feel" free, that's for sure.
"OSX is cool, but having to buy all of the other apps again or run them in emulation is pretty damn lame if you ask me!"
Emulation? Are you talking about Classic mode? I'm sorry, but in this case, "emulation" as most understand it is not how Classic mode works. There is no hardware "emulation", so I'm not sure where your problem with classic resides.
It's not "lame", and works just fine, thank you very much. Running my OS 9 apps in Classic Mode (not emulation, it uses the same hardware) is a very small price to pay for being able to use OS X at the same time. I use Quark 4, Illustrator 8, etc... in classic mode with no slowdown whatsoever (remember, same hardware, no emulation) when I get client files in those apps. So again, I'm not sure you understand what you are saying. It's either a misunderstanding of Classic Mode, or you have actually never used OS X.
"You'd think if a bunch of self-described geeks rave about a show that takes in space, there'd probably be some technical or scientific aspect to the show.
Yeah, but that's only a small part of the story that happens to only entertain certain types of people to a heightened degree, such as ourselves, and we are the few. The series is extraordinarily entertaining, even with a bit (there is certainly some) of the techno babble and a tad of the physics removed.
It's a Mac, not an Apple MAC. Why do people who have never used a Mac capitalize it like it's an acronym? It's very strange...
Any three button/scroll wheel USB mouse you can find will work on a Mac, right clicking inclued, out of the box. You don't even have to install any software. So, how stupid would you and your "co-worker", combined, have to be to not realize that? I use an 8 button cordless (Logitech MX700) mouse with my Mac.
Do you know why Apple refuses to "sell" a two button mouse? To keep programmers from becomming dependent on a right click to do anything. It forces them to simplify usage and GUI layout. And guess what, it has worked beautifully.
Now, I would suggest you actually go out and use a Mac (running OS X) for some time, and then make up your mind. But, don't come back here to tell us, we stop believing liars, as we should.
It's simple, there is no argument. Bin Laden has explained why several times. There is no reason for "agreeing" to anything. He stated explicitly that it was becuase of our support for Isreal and for the planting of US military bases on holy land in Saudi Arabia (among a few other places)
Nah, him only mentioning Dashboard was merely a mistake, nothing more. He could have gone much further and deeper and would have quite a few more examples. iLife,.Mac, and iWork alone could have been mentioned (iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, GarageBand, Pages, Keynote, etc...). These apps are drop dead awesome, and actually very fun to use. It actually makes you want to create. Just because he didn't mention them, doesn't make them unworthy of extraordinary praise when it comes to ease of use, intuitive design, all of which have inspired droves that wouldn't have otherwise delved into these areas.
He also could have mentioned Spotlight. It's insanely useful and hard to find on other platforms.
So, while you can spend an entire post, modded up no less, on Widgets, please realize that you are merely attacking the article, because your argument falls flat on its face if you were actually attempting to attack the OS with regards to your "choice" of platforms. No, OS X is hands down the best OS out there at this point in time. It is inspired and you can actually sense it. Most of it actually makes sense. It's just so damned intuitive. And, I do like Widgets, I have to confess. They're like crack, I can't get enough of them...
...um, or you could all just use NeoOffice on all new projects. The cost benefit alone would be worth it. How "entrenched" you seem to be that you don't even consider the alternative.
eah, sure, its all _one_big_conspiracy_ against the world.. the oil and gas corps are in it together against everyone else..
do you _really_ believe that sh*t yourself? People working at oil&gas companies have cars themselves too.
Hahaha! Oh man, that's funny...
Of course they have cars, but how did they buy them again? Who pays their bills? Who provides for their familes? Who answers to board members and all stock holders, some of which are the most powerful/richest people on the planet (and trust me when I say, they really like being rich and powerful... that's how most of them got there)?
No, the "car" they drive has nothing to do with it. And yes, they are in fact "in it together against everyone else". In fact, that's how business operates. To suggest that they would throw up their arms and say "ah well, it's best for the world" when presented with something that could cut into their profits is pure lunacy.
...or at least we should. If "over 400 government, military, and intelligence community witnesses testifying to their direct, personal, first hand experience with UFOs, ETs, ET technology, and the cover-up that keeps this information secret" isn't good enough, then dismiss all of these as swamp gas while you are at it.
Here here. 80% of Blockbuster's PS2 shelf are FPS'. I've done that, been there a billion freaking times. I swear to god if I find another first person shooter with a new skin being sold I'm going to fucking throw my console out the window. I couldn't care less how "real" the combat looks, it's still a floating gun shooting stuff. Yay...
So, will Serenity jab Fox in the side for more episodes? My wife and I just got done renting the DVD's, and were shattered when we realized it's abrupt end.
Holy cow. A guy get temporarily angry that his iPhoto crashes trying to import over 18 GB's into it, writes an article about it, and still admits he loves his Mac (at the end of the article) and this is your "volley" to the main article?
Yikes.
I'm not sure if that helps or hurts your "argument".
Look, you either have a PC, a Mac, a Linux box, a Sun workstation, etc... the "PC", even thought it literally stands for Personal Computer, means Windows today.
Microsoft. HD-DVD.
Sony. Blu-Ray. Sony has an absolutely huge customer base of eclectronic equipment and artists (music, and more importantly in this case, video). Who wins and why doesn't Microsoft want to adopt the better of the two?
Reply... and thanks.
No, you need to check your facts. LOL.
"Brands are notorious "and" can lose value very quickly so suggesting you can rely on the brand to keep a company going for 10 years is not credible."

Exactly. My GeForce Ti with 128 MB RAM won't give me the "ripple" effect in widgets. It's not the RAM.
Horrible logic. By that logic, the world was created just a second ago, and God planted all of our memories, of our gained knowledge, and all of the dinosaur bones (just for laughs, he's a lonely guy).

Troll? I was dead cold serious. LOL.
"Seriously, I think OS X is way less daunting than Linux."
Huh? OS X is way less daunting than Windows too!.

Um, it wouldn't have caught up with Apple (as far as tranparency is concerned) until it's released...
It will eventually catch up with apple, as far as transparency is concerned, over a year from now.
Please, for the love of god, mod this up... Xcode is amazing, and the parent surely has never heard of it.

What really pisses me off is out iTunes reognized all my music when it was inported into the libary.
Um, you do know that you can tell iTunes to not do that, right? Check the prefs...

Oh joy, another FPS to get all worked up about. How... original.
sigh...

Zero Point just needs funding!
